Chapter 782: Matters of Reincarnation
The boss pulled back the curtain, and Liu Shuqin followed in his footsteps, step by step down the dimly lit corridor.
This corridor was a far cry from the outside shops, which were mere ordinary accessory stores. Inside, however, it was steeped in an air of mystique, with various bagua talismans adorning the walls, as if it were the realm of a fortune-teller.
Liu Shuqin felt increasingly uneasy; her emotions were a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
After all, she had no idea what awaited her next—good or bad was an unknown.
To be honest, she really didn’t want to hear any bad news. Given the dire circumstances, any bad news regarding Lin Nuo would hit her hard.
“What could this be? What do you think?”
Liu Shuqin’s voice reached the Demon Spirit, seeking a bit of insight from him.
Now she and the Demon Spirit were gradually getting along, sometimes even discussing things together.
“It’s about that thing you keep rambling on about.”
The Demon Spirit replied, referring to the dreams she had mentioned.
Although the Demon Spirit resided within Liu Shuqin, it couldn’t actually see her dreams; it could only grasp the context through her words.
In summary, it felt she had a really ridiculous dream.
Not just one, but a whole series.
How ridiculous? Ridiculous enough that Liu Shuqin died, and then it possessed Lin Nuo, while also mocking him.
How absurd! It wouldn’t dare possess him and mock him—that would be asking for death! Wouldn’t he just kill it instantly?
Ridiculous.
Of course, it seemed absurd, but it had a vague feeling that this may be true.
Where this strange intuition came from, it couldn’t say.
Since it had come along, it might as well find out what this boss was all about.
“Hmm, I think so too. It’s probably this ring.”
Liu Shuqin said, quickly following the boss’s lead as they walked down the corridor. At the end of the corridor were three rooms, and the boss opened the door to the leftmost one.
“Please, go ahead.”
“Thanks.”
With that, Liu Shuqin entered, only to find the room bathed in darkness. After the boss stepped in, he lit a candle, and soon the entire room brightened.
“Have a seat.”
The boss gestured, and before them was a table with two chairs. The boss took a seat on the opposite side, where an abacus and various fortune-telling items were laid out, lending a mysterious air.
Liu Shuqin sat down as well, and the boss politely poured her some tea.
“No need to be courteous, just tell me what’s going on,” she said.
“Is there something you wish to know?”
After pouring the tea, the boss set the pot aside.
“I’ve recently had some strange dreams that diverge greatly from reality, but they feel very real. Absurdly, I died. And the person I admire most was forced into a corner and harmed his comrades. All of this started when I bought this ring. Boss, is there a connection?”
Liu Shuqin’s voice rose, clearly anxious.
“There is, of course.”
The boss replied leisurely, taking his time with his tea before setting the cup down.
“Have you heard of reincarnation?”
“Reincarnation? I’ve only learned about it from books. When a person dies, their soul goes to the underworld, walks across the Naihe Bridge, drinks Meng Po soup, and then is reborn into their next life. Whether this truly exists is hard to verify, after all, it’s just a tale of traversing.”
“Whether it’s a tale or not, let’s assume for now it’s correct. This world has reincarnation; the souls of the deceased go to the underworld and then are reborn. But could there be exceptions in this world? Do all souls go to the underworld?”
The boss dropped a hint, making Liu Shuqin even more curious.
After pondering for a moment, Liu Shuqin had an idea and said,
“Then, not going to the underworld would mean remaining in the human realm? Becoming wandering spirits? If so, I suppose those spirits must have some attachments, right?”
“Indeed, there are attachments. You’re half right; there are spirits that linger on earth. But there’s also the possibility of not going through the underworld, not drinking Meng Po soup, carrying memories of their past life, and heading directly into the next life.”
“Hmm? There seem to be similar stories. Some people remember events from their past life, but those were just stories—not to mention it actually exists?”
As Liu Shuqin listened more, the concept became increasingly enigmatic, making her marvel at the wonders of the universe, instilling a deeper respect for life in her heart.
“It exists. This life can represent a new beginning or someone’s past.”
“Past? Could it be?”
Liu Shuqin, clever as she was, began to piece things together with just a little hint from the boss.
Could it be that it was the past?
“Please, boss, be clear with me; this is really important for me.”
“Since you’re here, it’s all part of the plan. Initially, I had no intention of meddling in these matters. But since it’s come to this—fine.”
The boss sighed softly, then took out a fortune-telling compass marked with various intricate characters.
“Go on, place your hand on it.”
“Hmm, okay.”
Liu Shuqin complied, placing her hand on the compass.
Suddenly, the scene before her turned a blur of white, and the original setting vanished.
Then a new image appeared, showing the same room.
She saw herself, a floating soul, conversing with the boss.
Now, she was an outsider, merely watching as her soul spoke with the boss.
“The world is now at peace; the scourge of mankind has been eradicated. It’s time for you to embrace reincarnation; you’ve lingered too long. Don’t worry, you’ve accumulated merits; there’s no need to fear your next life. You’ll have a good rebirth. Please hurry and stop overthinking.”
“Master, I… why did this happen? Why did my junior brother become the scourge of mankind? He has always strived to become a hero; why did it end up like this…?”
“This was predestined. It is his fate; at this point, there’s nothing you can alter. You wished for a stabilized world, and now it is, your attachment has been resolved, you can go.”
“But…”
Liu Shuqin’s soul murmured softly. Though she had fulfilled her wish, new attachments took root in her heart, leaving her troubled.
“Master, what will happen to my junior brother?”
“He is guilty of many crimes; in his next life, he will likely suffer too. There’s no way around it; he brought this upon himself.”
“Master, can I sacrifice my merits for my junior brother’s easier next life? This wasn’t his fault… he shouldn’t have… he was also forced into it.”
“Are you truly willing? You might endure hardships in your next life.”
“I am.” She replied firmly.
“Then it’ll depend on your fate. Seeing how fate plays out, now you will enter this ring; all will depend on destiny.”
The boss’s words were laden with meaning, and soon, Liu Shuqin’s soul was drawn into the ring.
In truth, Lin Nuo’s trajectory was already arranged; he was aware as well.
Curiosity welled up in him as he wondered how fate would rearrange things—now that seemed like it could be interesting.
