[“Nice!”]
Baek Seong-an was the first to shout,
“Good job.”
I followed up with praise, and then Kim Jae-min chimed in,
[“Ohh, that Top Lane scrub just got ganked!”]
[“…It’s the enemy Top, No Teleport.”]
3 Min Top School Honorary Member, Seo Yeon-woo.
Now that OLZ Honor had become a thing, Graves went in for the kill shortly after the lane phase had started, taking down the enemy Renekton solo.
Honestly, this wasn’t all that surprising.
In the current meta, you could easily say Graves was an OP champion, and especially in top lane, he practically had no bad matchups.
What’s important is that it was Seo Yeon-woo who managed to take down Graves.
No matter how much Yoan-woo’s form had dropped recently, the enemy Top’s tier was just Master 101 points at best.
Seo Yeon-woo had once held her own against top-tier players like EZ of BAN and King of SCV, who was now the current “Top of Korea,” so there was absolutely no reason for her to get pushed around now.
‘That’s not the only reason, though.’
Graves is really high-tier in this meta.
He can perform as a nearly matchup-proof Tier 1 pick in top lane, and also has the ability to swap back to his original position as a jungler.
Not only that, but we can say that our ban/pick was pretty solid.
Our team got both the Tier 1 picks, Graves and Lee Sin, along with Twisted Fate for Mid and Miss Fortune for Bot Lane.
So why did the enemy team make such absurd ban/pick choices?
There were a few reasons.
First, despite knowing we were clearly the first pick, one reason they didn’t ban Graves was because they had a lot of bans going towards the mid lane.
[Malphite]
[Baegah]
[Galion]
Their three bans.
After AllDay’s interview, champions like Malphite and Baegah had been getting a lot of buzz in the community, leading naturally to those bans.
The second reason, while not exact, seemed to be that the enemy was feeling extreme pressure regarding game time in their ban/pick phase.
Renekton, Elise.
Adding Sylas into the mix too.
They got straight-up strong bans for top-side fights.
Of course, it wasn’t a terrible ban/pick, but the problem was they gave us too much just because they were too focused on their own composition.
Soon, that would turn into results, with Seo Yeon-woo getting a solo kill in the top lane.
[“No need to rush. We just need to win both games.”]
With Seo Yeon-woo’s solo kill, the atmosphere, which had been tense, relaxed tremendously among the team members.
From this point forward, we just had to keep doing what we were doing.

[OLZ Outlaw (Lee Sin) targets QS Ulsan Park Ji-ho (Renekton)]
“Let’s go right now.”
One of the easiest ways for a jungler to snowball is by focusing on a favorable lane.
Of course, with top lane, it’s common that ganking top might end up losing the bot lane game, but at this first camp timing, it wouldn’t hurt to invest in top at least once.
That’s just because top lane has a 1:1 nature, and once it starts snowballing, it’s hard to stop it.
Renekton had already died once.
His Teleport was on cooldown.
And Renekton’s lane was pushed.
If we could kill Renekton now, it would practically mean the game was over for the top lane.
[⨷]
[OLZ Outlaw (Lee Sin) targets QS Ulsan Kim Soo-young (Elise)]
The enemy seemed to be aware of this too because as Graves pushed the lane, putting dive pressure, Elise suddenly showed up around the top side bush.
“Elise is coming.”
[“…We don’t mind.”]
Graves Lee Sin against Renekton Elise.
Normally, the victory of the fight would depend on focus.
But that was only the case when it’s 2:2.
In the showdown between Twisted Fate and Sylas, initially, Twisted Fate has the advantage, but as time passes, Sylas starts pulling ahead.
So, to put it simply, since neither side had gone back home yet, it meant Twisted Fate held the lane control.
“Can you Teleport from mid to top?”
[“Hold on… Oh, I can do it now.”]
“Just wait ten seconds before you come.”
I sneaked into the brush, and Graves created a diversion.
For a laner, a good distraction isn’t about blatantly pressuring the enemy.
It’s about appearing to have absolutely nobody behind.
Being cautious and careful.
Maybe because of that, or perhaps they were genuinely worried that leaving top unattended was a big problem, Elise made a move to circle around and catch Graves.
Slowly, slowly, Elise approached.
Only then did Seo Yeon-woo seem to spot Elise and hurriedly made a retreating move.
I didn’t leave the bush yet.
I was waiting until both Renekton and Elise fell into the trap.
And then, as Elise used her ability to jump forward, she perfectly walked into the trap.
Renekton had already relied on Elise using her ability to charge forward, but I had already appeared next to Graves.
Of course, even so, it was still a 2:2 situation.
Did the enemy think they could win enough? They immediately targeted me.
[“I’m on.”]
With that, the trustworthy voice of Baek Seong-an came through.
“Start with Elise.”
Elise had already used her jump, so her escape ability was on cooldown.
But if she tries to escape using Flash, Twisted Fate’s Teleport was already lit up behind her.
She was now in a pickle.
Meanwhile, the enemy Sylas, who had received the lag on waves, had taken his Teleport, but it was already several seconds behind Twisted Fate.
Twisted Fate arrived,
and a golden card flew towards Elise.
Ding!
As soon as Elise got stunned, all of Graves and Lee Sin’s skills were perfectly executed.
In an instant, Elise’s health dropped to nearly nothing, and although she tried to use Flash to escape, it was useless.
-Enemy eliminated!
[“Nice!”]
Only then did Sylas and Renekton, who came late with their Teleport, take a beating and barely managed to hide behind the turret.
As our three took on the 2:3 dive pressure, in the end, the two had no choice but to give up the top lane.
From Sylas’s perspective, he was just losing from TPs he didn’t need to take.
A victory for top-side fights.
While it may seem that we only secured one kill, what mattered was that we had won.
The evidence of that was that now, a level gap started to spread between Renekton and Graves, aside from the gold difference.
A level gap usually proves one point when it comes to laning phase between champions.
[“Top is done.”]
Seo Yeon-woo’s quiet comment.
Right now, it was the most reassuring thing to hear.
And…
The winning tone didn’t stop there.
From the bot side, when the top-side loses in a fight, it’s hard not to feel anxious.
So usually, they would end up making risky plays they wouldn’t normally do, and often suffer the consequences of those risks.
Just like right now.
[“Jhin got hooked.”]
[“Oh, right!”]
Kim Ji-hoon’s low-key initiation came, and Miss Fortune’s ultimate exploded above Jhin’s head.
Even though Leona used her ultimate to stop Miss Fortune’s ultimate, Jhin’s health was already drained significantly.
-Enemy eliminated!
Jhin was finished off by Thresh’s Ignition.
-Enemy eliminated!
-Double kill!
Seemingly in a rage, Leona locked onto Kim Jae-min’s Miss Fortune but just barely missed.
[“Wow, I almost died.”]
It was only natural to jest; Kim Jae-min’s health was below 5%.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he was incredibly lucky to be alive.
-Blue team secured the Infernal Dragon!
With the bot side’s victory, the first dragon naturally turned into our team’s prize.
And then came the timing for the first Rift Herald.
We could arguably say it was the most crucial moment in the current meta, but the enemy’s response was lukewarm.
It hadn’t even been 10 minutes since the game started, yet they had already lost their fighting spirit.
-Blue team secured the Rift Herald!
Fancy strategies or tactics,
or even a sharp ban/pick shouldn’t be necessary.
“Go finish it.”
[“Okay.”]
With that alone, OLZ, which had just set out, managed to secure a victory against QS Ulsan, who belonged to the amateur mid-tier teams, before Baron even showed up.
Or rather, to put it another way…
With overwhelming superiority,
OLZ completely stamped down QS Ulsan.
