The last day of the All-Star Event has dawned.
“Oops? I thought you were in your room?”
Baek Seong-an waved at me as he spotted me in the hotel corridor.
“Uh? What do you mean?”
“I didn’t see you at all yesterday, so I was wondering if you’d gone somewhere.”
“I just went to bed early yesterday.”
“Really?”
To be precise, I had fallen asleep while staring out the window, feeling a bit melancholic.
“Today’s the last day.”
“Yeah.”
“Finally heading home.”
“Don’t you want to go home already, even though it’s only been a few days?”
Baek Seong-an nodded.
“Life in the hotel ain’t so bad… but I still want to hurry back to the dorm and cook some ramen. I’m sick of all this greasy food.”
“Really already?”
“I guess I’m just a hometown-style person. Jae-min eats just fine.”
“Well, he’s young.”
It’s common knowledge that greasy food is a symbol of youth.
It’s a privilege only those who can digest it possess, I suppose?
“We’re young too.”
“Well… that’s true.”
Though we said that, neither of us were exactly young by the standards of a professional gamer just starting out.
Of course, Baek Seong-an had been a veteran pro gamer for quite a while now, but anyway.
“Still, since it’s the last day, we should at least end on a good note. There’s the 1v1 tournament today, right?”
“Yep.”
“Win. All the way to the finals.”
“That’s the plan.”
The only reason I, a rookie who had just been promoted to the first division, was selected for the All-Star Event was simply because I was popular.
So, for the sake of the fans supporting me, I felt the need to prove myself a little bit.
Well… I had somewhat made my point yesterday by defeating the Chinese team head-on, but a single match isn’t enough to call it a solid proof.
Sure, today’s 1v1 tournament wouldn’t fully reflect our true abilities either, but there’s no harm in winning.
“Oh, you’re here, sis. Hi!”
Lost in thought as I walked down the corridor, Kim Jae-min and Seo Yeon-woo appeared.
“Did you sleep well?”
“Can’t you see these eyes? I went to bed late yesterday, and this one kept saying I needed to wake up to cheer… Ugh.”
As Kim Jae-min glared at Seo Yeon-woo, she subtly averted her gaze.
“…When did I do that?”
“When did you? You were practically yelling at me to get up, weren’t you? Come here.”
Kim Jae-min kept glaring at Seo Yeon-woo, but she glanced over at me while making her escape.
“Sis, did you check who your opponent is for the 1v1 tournament semifinals?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“It’s Nightmare, right?”
“Yep, Nightmare.”
Just as that implies, my opponent in the 1v1 tournament semifinals was none other than Nightmare.
GRS Nightmare.
The mid laner for the Chinese All-Star team and the mid laner for the GRS team, which won the Red Cup this year.
So if someone were to ask who the best mid laner in the world this year was, he would surely be one of the top contenders.
“But if that’s the case, if you win the semifinals, you’ll meet Rainbow in the finals, right?”
In response to Kim Jae-min’s statement, Baek Seong-an replied.
“Still, Rainbow hasn’t secured their advancement yet, so who knows.”
“Come on, it’s Rainbow. Of course, they’ll win.”
“There are a lot of variables in 1v1 matches.”
Anyway, just as he said, if I won in the semifinals and Rainbow also won in theirs, facing Rainbow in the finals wouldn’t be impossible at all.
“But doesn’t Yujin start her first match today? Shouldn’t we hurry?”
“That’s right.”
“Then let’s go quickly.”
It was time to head out for the final day of the All-Star Event.
*
Today’s schedule is as follows.
[Day 3]
– 1v1 Tournament Semifinals (Best of 3) – 10 AM
– Duo Heart Mode Game – 11:30 AM
– U.R.F Mode Game – 1 PM
– 1v1 Tournament Finals (Best of 3) – 2:30 PM
– 5v5 Showdown – 3:30 PM
Events like the Duo Heart Mode, U.R.F, and the 5v5 Showdown could be considered exhibition matches, so if we talk about real competition, it was only the 1v1 tournament.
My opponent in the semifinals was GRS Nightmare.
Naturally, Rainbow’s semifinal opponent was the European representative top laner, Mosslem.
Considering that we were now down to the semifinalists, the remaining players were anything but ordinary.
It wouldn’t be surprising at all if anyone other than me won.
‘But I won’t let that intimidate me.’
Even if my reputation doesn’t quite measure up to theirs, I certainly wasn’t going to shrink back.
In fact, it was rather good for me.
As a newcomer, even if I lose, I’m just starting out. Compared to them, who bear heavier burdens, I could consider myself a bit more psychologically at ease.
The mindset of a challenger.
So I would approach them with a challenge’s mindset, letting go of some of the pressure.
Toward the world they carry on their shoulders.
“Oh, Outlaw and Honor have arrived.”
“Hiya.”
As Seo Yeon-woo and I entered the waiting room for the Korean representative team, the other three representatives welcomed us.
“Ugh, my stomach…”
“So drink a reasonable amount yesterday then.”
“With the mood like that, how could I drink just a little?”
Today, GuineaPig seemed to have no agenda whatsoever, implying he might have had a drink or two last night.
Well, despite having no schedule, being present in the waiting room seemed to indicate that GuineaPig was enjoying the All-Star itself.
Rainbow looked at me and said.
“Good luck today, okay?”
“Ah, sure.”
“I’ll be waiting for you in the finals.”
“Haha… yeah, I’ll try my best.”
Even though the semifinals hadn’t even started yet, Rainbow displayed confidence about waiting for me in the finals.
Knowing Rainbow’s personality, I found that confidence a bit odd, but on the flip side, it also suggested that they had prepared a lot for today’s matches.
“Outlaw! Get ready!”
Perhaps due to arriving right on time, the staff in charge of the Korean team’s All-Star Event called for me soon after entering the waiting room.
“Oh, it’s finally Outlaw’s turn.”
“Fighting!”
“Make sure to win and give Jinhyuk a tough time!”
“Haha… I’ll do my best.”
“Ooh, I’m looking forward to it! …Ugh.”
“Oh dear. You might want to drink some honey water or something.”
“…For me, chocolate milk is better.”
“Ah, yeah. Sure.”
I greeted the Korean players in the waiting room and moved on.
While it was usually packed, it felt even more crowded today, though that might just be my imagination.

After an utterly incomprehensible and lengthy opening speech, it was finally time to introduce the players.
-Blue corner, Outlaw!
-Wooooo!!!
-Red corner, Nightmare!
-Jia You! Jia You! Jia You!
I looked at Nightmare across from me.
He was the first player from GRS to recognize my worth as a professional gamer.
So I would keep the promise I made to myself long ago.
“I’ll take it easy on you.”
Of course, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be hitting hard.
