Chapter 84

1.

Expansion of perspective.

Or, various perspectives.

I defined the true power of extrasensory perception this way.

The expansion of the senses I usually use, and the real ability of extrasensory perception beyond what is called the sixth sense.

The moment I first used it, I realized that extrasensory perception was truly a transcendent power.

A power that goes beyond simply observing the material world through sight to reach what is called the ‘Mystery’ realm.

Or, a power akin to what is called ‘Terror’.

The reason I came to this conclusion was simple.

Because this kind of power existed here in Kiburatos.

Most notably, the ‘foreknowledge’ or ‘prophecy’ abilities that each academy is rumored to secretly possess.

The strange entities of Gematria who use incomprehensible powers and pursue their personal sublimity as adults.

And the various all-out battle bosses they manifest in reality.

Unusual, non-standard, transcendent.

Entities with peculiar and diverse perspectives described by countless adjectives. I knew of their existence, which is why I realized that the power of extrasensory perception was similar in nature.

Simply put, extrasensory perception is the power to ‘open the senses’.

The power to grant senses that humans do not possess, are not human, and are impossible for humans.

In Spider-Man, ‘Spider-Sense’ merely enhances the senses to perceive everything around, but my ‘extrasensory perception’ was different.

The extrasensory perception I acquired wasn’t due to being bitten by a spider and obtaining its genetic traits. It wasn’t a biological change like genetic mutation, the development or evolution of senses.

Perspective (觀點).

The way one views the world. The standard by which one judges value. The attitude with which one observes phenomena. The direction in which one cognizes things.

Someone might drink cold water and find it refreshing, while another might call it cold.

Some might find spiders creepy, while others might find them cute.

Everyone’s perspective differs when viewing something.

A human perspective on the world.

A prophet’s perspective on the world.

An adult’s perspective on the world.

And, extrasensory perception is …

A power that transcends these differences in perspective.

Giving a human perspective to an ant, an adult perspective to a student, and a three-dimensional perspective to something that can only see the world in two dimensions.

Thus, the perspective I had when I activated extrasensory perception was not a ‘human’ one.

A perspective that transcends one stage, or perhaps even more.

It might be something I originally ‘possessed’.

Accepting the form of this world as a game.

Interpreting the story of this world as sentences.

Recognizing and appreciating the flow of this world as ‘something someone has determined’.

It was a familiar perspective.

A familiarity that felt overwhelming, as if it would burst my head.

The power to make this world unreal.

The creepy sensation of myself being controlled and moving is something that cannot be simply described as strange.

In a world where everything slowed down, I was the only one who could move. How could I move?

Because I possess extrasensory perception? Because of superior physical abilities?

No, that was not the case at all.

Because I gained a higher perspective through extrasensory perception, I could ‘forcefully’ move my body.

As if controlling a character with a keyboard, or progressing through a game, I could move my own body.

Thus, I could move in a world where everything had slowed down, but in the end, I had to endure terrible pain when the world returned to normal.

Because I had used physical abilities beyond human limits.

Because I had reached heights currently impossible to achieve.

Because the higher perspective was that deadly and far-reaching.

Hence, extrasensory perception was a power that scared me.

A terrifying and fearsome power that made me question if I am a character in a game and not being controlled in reality.

That’s why I use extrasensory perception only as the development of the sixth sense.

Likely, I’ll avoid using it for a while.

Extrasensory perception, in other words, is the power to acquire a ‘higher perspective’.

The power to possess a viewpoint that humans cannot.

I thought.

Sometimes, knowledge that humans cannot accept, knowledge that should not be accepted, does exist.

That’s why I sealed off extrasensory perception.

2.

Valtor got away.

But I wasn’t frustrated.

Because before I fell, I confirmed that Valtor also suffered considerable damage.

And at the same time, I saw the drones that were hovering nearby moving in the direction Valtor escaped.

Soon, Valtor will likely be captured.

Because it’s not an easy feat to evade the watchful eyes of the cutting-edge Millennium.

“Huff…”

A sigh escaped me as the sharp pain gradually subsided.

My head was still pounding.

It was, well, a sensation that was hard for a human to accept.

Surely, I move as I want, but it feels as if someone has grabbed my brain and is controlling it.

The sense of disconnection is immense. Even I find myself questioning, ‘How did I just move?’

Re-experiencing this forgotten terrible sensation instinctively made fear surge within me.

“This insane ability… I’ll never use it again.”

Still gripping the pain in my body, I sat on the floor for a moment, but soon noticed someone approaching.

Were they a citizen who almost got involved in the terrorism earlier?

“Excuse me… Are you alright?”

“Heh. Yes, I’m fi-”

I calmly smiled and turned my head.

But I couldn’t help but stiffen as my eyes met the gaze of the girl looking down at me.

“What. What is she doing here?”

Because the girl before me was one of the people I should be most wary of in Millennium right now.

Perhaps she was even the most threatening person to me.

“…”

“Wow. Do you recognize me? That’s surprising.”

“…You.”

“Hehe. There’s no need to be so cautious.”

Her usual composed smile flickered as I faltered, and she smiled softly with her eyes.

Her unique poise that made her unreadable.

She reached out her hand to me, brushing her snow-white hair behind her ear.

“This is our first meeting, right? I’m Ushio Noa from Seminar. Nice to meet you, Silk.”

“…Nice to meet you, Noa. I’m Silk.”

Staring blankly at Noa’s calm smile, I grasped her hand, feeling a strange trembling.

“Are you curious why I’m here?”

Mm. Yeah, I’m super curious.

But I didn’t say it out loud.

Instead, I stayed alert in case I needed to run, waiting for what Noa would say next.

Her lips slowly parted, and her throat moved. All my attention was on her mouth.

And then…

“I’m your fan. I came to meet you once.”

“…Huh?”

The words that came out of Noa’s mouth were completely unexpected.

I was so shocked, I couldn’t help but ask.

But Noa didn’t stop there.

She suddenly reached into her pocket, pulled out a notebook she often uses, and handed it to me along with a pen.

“Can you give me an autograph?”

“Huh…?”

“An autograph? Is that… not possible…?”

No. It’s not impossible.

What is this? Why are you here?

Unable to follow the situation, I took the notebook, unsure what to write.

Looking at Noa, she slightly blushed and stated her request.

“Write that you always support me.”

“Ah. Um. Alright.”

“And, um, could you draw a heart next to ‘To Noa’…?”

“…Alright.”

Why is this happening?

Noa, you’re not this type of character.

Didn’t you play as someone smart, calm, considerate, and serene?

Why are you now acting like an ordinary person meeting a celebrity?

If I hadn’t known Noa’s original character, I might have thought she was a regular fan.

“Really my fan? For what?”

Of course, it’s delightful that a Blue Archive character is my fan, but if it’s the secretary from Seminar, someone who’s always calm like Noa, it’s a different story.

Is this really Noa? Is it not a doppelganger?

Isn’t this completely supernatural??

A change so drastic it seemed like someone’s personality had flipped.

I wondered if I was the one making Noa act this way.

Amidst such unease, I finished signing and was about to return the notebook to Noa.

“Swish-”

“Be careful. President Rio is looking for you.”

“Wha-?!”

Noa suddenly leaned in and whispered in my ear!

Looking at her in confusion, Noa immediately distanced herself, resumed her usual calm, composed smile, and then stepped away from me.

Shit. What did I just hear?

“Hehe. Thank you. I’ll cherish it.”

“…Yes. Noa.”

“Don’t forget what I told you?”

I silently nodded.

Satisfied with my reaction, Noa nodded and turned around, starting to walk away as if the things she just said were all her real purpose.

“…”

I looked at Noa’s retreating back and lost myself in thought.

Without considering why Noa is helping me,

The student council president, ‘Tsukatsuki Rio,’ who hasn’t been heard from until now, has begun to act.

And for reasons not found in the original work.

“Looking for me?”

Why?

I couldn’t understand the reason.

Why is she looking for me?

It was a perplexing situation, but there’s one thing I could clearly understand.

Rio, evaluated as the tyrant of Millennium,

She’s certainly not searching for me for any good reason.

I don’t know the exact reason, but if she discovers my true identity, nothing good will happen to me.

“Huff…”

I sighed and brushed my hair off my forehead.

It seems there’ll be no rest even when I return to Millennium.

3.

“Yes. Yes. Understood. I’ll do that.”

“Click”

“Huff…”

With a sigh that seemed to express unbearable exasperation, a girl hung up the phone. She had a splitting headache after receiving orders from her superior during the recent call.

After sipping a mouthful of coffee that was on her desk, the girl, with her golden blonde hair, brushed it aside with frustration and mumbled.

“It’s so tiresome…”

Leaning back in her chair, she continued her murmur, her dark circles and weariness visible beneath one of her bangs that weren’t covering her eye.

The countless documents spread out across her desk and the many screens of information displayed on her computer only served as a measure of how much work she had been handling, yet she only sighed as this situation seemed ‘familiar’ to her by now.

However, even then, there were moments where she felt utterly perplexed. The order she had just received through a call from the Defense Room fell into that category.

“…Pfft. What an irrational order.”

The girl – ‘Ogata Kanna’, serving as the Public Security Director of Valkyrie, always prided herself on faithfully executing her duties. But every time she received commands outside her scope of duties, it caused tremendous anguish.

The head of the Defense Room, who had just conveyed the order to her, couldn’t be called a competent superior, good leader, or a decent person despite being skilled.

But what could she do?

As merely the Public Security Director, Kanna was in a position where she had no choice but to follow the absolute commands from the Student Council.

Recalling the order she had just received from the Defense Room chief, Kanna grimaced with a wry smile.

“To capture Silk and reveal her true identity?”

Now known not just as the ‘Kind Neighbor’ but also as the ‘Hero of Kiburatos’ and the ‘Symbol of Hope’, Silk.

To arrest and uncover such a person? Even thinking of it made Kanna shake her head.

Had it been a long time ago, she perhaps might have taken into account the possibility. But as things stood now, she would firmly disagree.

Silk… a monster she couldn’t fathom capturing, even if she had the support of all her security forces and additional departments. Silk, who defeated the steel serpent of Abidos single-handedly. How could Kanna possibly capture such an individual?

“And above all…”

Kanna couldn’t help but have another question in mind.

“Why now, of all times?”

The Defense Room chief, who had quietly ignored all of Silk’s actions until now, suddenly expressed hostility toward her and ordered her capture. The chief, who occasionally issued irrational orders, was unreasonably extreme today.

Bring her to me by any means, capture her?

What kind of order is this, even for the Defense Room chief?

“Does it have a reason behind it?”

Has Silk done something at this point that has upset the Defense Room chief? What exactly is it?

Kanna harbored such doubts internally but shook her head and had to let out another sigh.

“…At least, I need to pretend to comply.”

Muttering to herself like a weary civil servant, Kanna once again gathered all the info regarding Silk.

Even the work of suppressing the ‘Black Market,’ which she had been working on, was pushed to the back because of this. What could she do? If told to do it, she had to.

“…Many people will get hurt if they fight with Silk.”

From now on, D.U. members would have to act against Silk as Valkyrie had received the order. Even though they collaborated on several cases before, it’s no longer possible.

It’s regrettable towards Silk.

And regrettable towards her subordinates as well.

“Tiring…”

Kanna sighed and typed on the keyboard.

First, she had to send a notification to all security personnel.
