Chapter 50

The physical examination takes place over five days, starting from Monday to Friday.

Since it involves all students from the Combat Division, quite a bit of time is inevitably required. Hence, a full week has been allocated.

“Left eye: 0.3. Right eye: 0.2. You should probably get glasses.”

On the first day, basic physical tests and athletic ability evaluations are conducted.

Currently, I am wearing a jacket and am at the vision test station.

“Next, please.”

It was soon my turn. I placed both feet on the line marked on the floor, and looked at the vision test chart.

“Let’s start with the left eye. Please use the eye cover…”

“Huh?”

The assistant from the Medical Division seemed surprised, furrowing her eyebrows as she glanced at the spoon I was holding.

“Are you planning to use that spoon to cover your eye?”

“Is it disallowed?”

“Well, not exactly…”

As long as it can properly cover the eye, it shouldn’t make a difference. The assistant readily permitted the use of the spoon.

As a result:

“Left eye: 2.0. Right eye: 1.5. You don’t need glasses.”

!

Once the test was over, the assistant scanned my smartwatch with a wireless reader, indicating that it was all done.

“You can now head to the athletic ability test site.”

“Hmm.”

I gave a slight nod and exited the vision testing station.

“Hm, a difference of 0.5…”

I had recorded different figures for each eye. This was expected, as I had used the Blindside Skill during the test for one eye.

I was simply experimenting to see which was sharper, my eyes or the spoon.

Turns out, the spoon won—by a margin of exactly 0.5.

I’m uncertain whether I should be elated or disheartened by this.

“That’s ridiculous…”

On my way to the athletic ability testing site, I noticed Arna standing alone, lost in despair.

“Just when did I gain so much weight…? I was certainly meticulous about my diet…”

Arna was trembling as she stared at her physical examination report. Her face had gone pale.

I decided to sneak a peek.

“HiIIIIIIEEE!!!”

But I failed immediately. Arna had noticed my approach. She quickly crumpled her physical examination report and turned away.

“What is this…! You just startled me without warning!”

“Really? I didn’t do anything significant.”

“What…! You were trying to peek at my report just now…!”

Arna carefully hid the crumpled report deep into her pocket, indicating there was something she preferred to keep private.

“Come now. You’re an adult, not a child—what on earth do you find so embarrassing? Your weight, perhaps…?”

“Huh?”

I paused mid-sentence.

After a short pause, I leaned in and softly asked,

“Could it be because of your weight?”

“…”

Judging by her response, this must be it. Arna began sweating as she tightly shut her mouth.

Dear heavens. For a supposed hero to waste emotions over something trivial like body weight is absurd.

“Uuuuugh… What’s that look for…? Are you mocking me…?”

“Exactly. Your pitiful state compels me to do so.”

Just a few days ago, Arna ridiculed me for supposedly having no friends. But the tables have turned.

Now, it’s my turn to tease her.

“If I were you, I’d make sure to eat a little more appropriately.”

“EEEIK…!”

“So, what was your weight this time? Did you break a record? At this rate, you should be nearing at least 6…”

“Close that mouth of yours, right now!”

PFFT!

Before I could state the exact number, Arna swiftly struck me with a palm strike to the face.

Blocking someone’s words with violence? That’s a foul play.

I was merely stating facts.

The basic physical examination has concluded, and now it’s the turn for the athletic ability test.

The test was conducted at the outdoor Training Center.

3 meters 40 cm!

Ooooh…

The scene was almost identical to last week. Students running along the track, others straining their entire bodies to jump farther. Everyone was dedicated.

“How much was that student’s record from last semester?”

“3 meters 25 cm. He exceeded by 15 cm this time.”

“Hmm. He’s growing well. Keep a close eye on him.”

“Yes, Guild Master.”

The only difference from last week is the presence of outsiders—numerous guild representatives attending this physical examination as planned.

They are all avidly searching for promising individuals, glaring with anticipation.

“Hmph. This has nothing to do with me.”

Deciding to continue my way, I moved along the track.

“Hm?”

That’s when I recognized a familiar face in the waiting line for the standing long jump. It was Baek Joo-hee.

Let me go say hello.

“Hey janitor, long time no see.”

“KYAAaack!”

The moment Baek Joo-hee heard my voice, she instinctively hugged her head, showing a defensive posture.

“No need to panic. I left the spoon at home.”

“Is that… true?”

“After removing her arms, Baek Joo-hee calmed down—but only momentarily.

“The spoon’s a fake. It’s right here.”

“KYAAAaaaack!”

I pulled out the spoon from my pocket, causing Baek Joo-hee to shriek, louder than before.

This is kind of entertaining.

“What is this? Did you come here to pick a fight with me?”

“Fight? I just came to say hello.”

“Does anyone in this world greet people this way?”

If someone were watching, they might think I did something terrible. But all I’ve done is say hello.

I won’t be hitting anyone with the spoon today—at least not during this pleasant physical examination day.

“Exactly. I actually wanted to ask you something.”

Since I’ve run into Baek Joo-hee, it seems a shame to leave without asking.

“Have you seen Kang Tae-hoon recently?”

“Kang Tae-hoon?”

Baek Joo-hee’s eyes widened slightly at the mention of Kang Tae-hoon from me.

“Why him all of a sudden?”

“I haven’t seen him around lately. Do you know anything about him?”

He hasn’t taken a leave of absence or dropped out—I would’ve heard rumors by now.

Kang Tae-hoon is still at this school. But I’m unsure exactly where he is, as he hasn’t shown his face.

Is he attending any classes?

“Hmm, I haven’t heard from him in about two weeks… but…”

That’s when Baek Joo-hee finally spoke.

“I heard Kang Tae-hoon has been visiting the hospital.”

“Hospital? Is he sick?”

“Not really sure on the specifics.”

Unbelievable. Apparently, Kang Tae-hoon is visiting the hospital. Did he meet with some major accident? I’m starting to get worried.

I should send him a DM to check up on him.

BOOM!

4 meters 10 cm!

WAAAOOOO…

Just then, a roar of applause erupted around the standing long jump booth.

Clap clap clap!

Guild representatives were clapping their hands together, while journalists hurriedly snapped pictures to capture the moment.

“4 meters 10 cm? What kind of monster is this?”

“Hard to believe! Can someone achieve this purely on physical strength? Excuse me, Record Officer! Is it confirmed he didn’t use magical power?”

“It’s Rashid Belkalem. His physique alone outclasses Arna.”

A historic record was being set, and the excitement lingered in the air as no one took their eyes off the track.

Currently standing on the track is one male student—standing over 2 meters 30 cm, showing off a healthy coppery skin, with muscles so inflated it’s like he had downed a whole bowl of steroids.

A warrior with a perfect body was receiving all the attention.

First-year Combat Division student, Rashid Belkalem.

But even after setting the record, Rashid Belkalem showed no signs of excitement. He silently walked off the track with his thick lips tightly sealed, shaking the ground with each step.

“Heavens. A collision with someone like that would leave no bone unbroken.”

Baek Joo-hee, licking her lips, subconsciously rubbed her arm.

Even the girl who loves guys wouldn’t dare take on someone of that size.

I can understand that. This guy was practically a walking tank—essentially a human weapon.

Instant death if you cross paths.

“Next! Any next contestant?”

The supervisor called out, but there was no one at the start line.

“Running after Rashid seems… a bit harsh?”

“I think I’ll come back to this later.”

No one readily volunteered. After setting such a record, who would step up immediately?

Not only would it leave one humiliated.

“I’ll give it a shot.”

Nonetheless, in this situation, I confidently raised my hand, declaring that I would go next.

“Ah, Spoon. Is it your turn to run?”

Coincidentally, Moon Shin-chung was there at the start line to greet me. He was working part-time as the record officer.

“Hmph, do you have confidence? Rashid just went before you.”

“Shut up and start the process.”

To be honest, I’m not really interested in the records. I just want to finish this physical examination quickly and rest in my room.

“Phew, how uninspired.”

As he spoke, Moon Shin-chung placed the whistle in his mouth.

The sound echoed across the entire track.

PIIIIIIIT!

Still, I have no intention of slacking off. I need to show at least a minimum amount of effort.

I adjusted my stance.

“Phew…”

I took a deep breath. I then swung my arms back and forth, creating momentum.

Once enough force had been gathered, it was time to leap. I pushed off the board with all my strength and leaped high into the air.

POOOFF!

I didn’t hold back while in the air, putting forth my best effort to gain even a centimeter’s advantage.

THUUUUUNK!

And then, a perfect landing. I touched down effortlessly on both feet without any wobbling.

I straightened my knees and checked the results.

“4 meters 30 cm…”

I had surpassed the earlier record by Rashid Belkalem by a margin of 20 cm. A new record was set just five minutes later.

“…”

The gathered guild representatives were quite astonished, unable to speak. They stared intently with wide eyes.

Another monster on the track, shortly after Rashid.

“Shazam!”

POW!

Just as I was basking in the accomplishment, someone struck the back of my head.

It was Moon Shin-chung.

“Using magical power arbitrarily—what’s your game? Back to the start!”

“Sure…”

Ah. Caught right away.

I returned to the starting line for a reattempt.

As a director for the game Tyr One, I thought it’d be a great to create a gag character a super handsome man who uses only a spoon and annoys the protagonist at every turn. Get the female protagonist to wake up at 6am for a duel. Check Forget my tablet in class so I can annoy her more. Check I’m not doing this to torment the protagonist but for her own growth as part of my quests… Hair loss as a penalty has nothing to do with it.
