Make Our Family Great Again – Chapter 119

Little Dom Solomon.

There was nothing that could interrupt the grand welcome ceremony led by one of the Bosses of the Five Families.

“Get down! Get down!”

“Back off…”

“Damn it! Move away!”

The reaction of the attackers to Solomon and his men’s hail of bullets was the very definition of chaos.

It was clear they could no longer move forward, but they were so tangled up that turning back wasn’t even an option.

To be precise, the ones in front were so scared they shoved the ones behind them, but the downpour of bullets raining down on them came even faster.

One poor fool lost their bearings and fell over the railing into the gaping space below.

“Keep shooting! Until we don’t see them anymore! Keep going!”

“Yes!”

Even Solomon and his men’s fierce shouts were insufficient against the cacophony filling the staircase.

When the endless gunfire finally ceased…

A grim scene unfolded below the fourth-floor stairs, with bodies lying around, we couldn’t tell whether they were alive or dead.

“….”

Solomon was clearly excited in this situation.

The thrill of wiping out the enemies in front of him in a life-or-death scenario, the acrid smell of gunpowder filling the air, and the deafening noise that left his ears ringing.

All these complex elements were preventing Solomon from making sound judgment.

The attackers’ assault through the western staircase was thwarted.

Before long, I noticed uneasy signs emerging from the eastern staircase I was monitoring.

“Boss.”

One of the Wolf Trainees, cautiously checking the downstairs staircase, approached me.

“What? What’s going on?”

“It seems like they’re coming up this way too.”

“….”

At the report, I quietly gestured to the guys stationed at the eastern staircase.

Even the ones who didn’t get the signal sensed something approaching with the Wolf’s quick movements and readied themselves.

“There, three of you. Follow me.”

I pointed out three Wolf Trainees. Then, together with them, I cautiously headed to the stairs and positioned ourselves between the fourth and fifth floors.

I lowered my posture to avoid being seen by those coming up from the third floor, not forgetting to keep my head down.

No matter how much we had the numerical and firepower advantage, we couldn’t let our guard down.

It was more efficient for us to attack simultaneously from the front and the side entrance.

“….”

Finally, I began to clearly hear footsteps. It seemed like the ones sent to the western staircase were indeed numerous, as those coming this way were few.

They probably thought they could exploit a gap while our attention was on the western staircase.

I relied solely on hearing without confirming with my eyes. One of the few advantages of elves was their superior hearing.

…Now. I instinctively sensed it.

As I suddenly stood up, the other Wolves revealed themselves in unison.

Sure enough, I could see the attackers attempting to barge in, propped up against the wall not far from the front entrance.

I didn’t even need to say “shoot.” I pulled the trigger one after the other in the order they came up.

Several shots followed.

In the last moment, what entered their line of sight was their own body collapsing, hit by a bullet that came from an angle.

The skirmish ended in an instant.

Compared to the western staircase, where Solomon was, the number of enemies here was ridiculously small.

“Keep checking if more are coming from below.”

“Roger.”

As I descended the stairs, I didn’t forget to put one more bullet into each of the fallen foes.

One shot, two shots, three shots. In total, it was four men.

Leaving the eastern staircase to the others, I headed to the lobby on the fourth floor. I was about to go to the room where Veronica and McBratney were.

“….”

However, something seemed off with the broken flowerpot in front of Veronica’s office.

An unidentified green liquid was seeping out among the little soil I had covered for the mandrake.

I wondered what this was, and as I brushed the soil away… it turned out to be bodily fluid coming from the mandrake.

The flowerpot wasn’t the only thing that got shot.

As I contemplated what I could do for it, the little friend stopped moving.

‘Poor thing.’

Given the circumstances, I buried this little friend back in the soil. Only after it had died did it get to be fully buried in the dirt it didn’t want to expose itself to.

“Patrick!”

As I called McBratney’s name, he emerged from the room. Since the danger wasn’t entirely over, I didn’t bother calling for Veronica.

“…Is it all over?”

“No, not yet. If I were one of those bastards, I wouldn’t think we could be beaten this easily.”

“That’s true. But they aren’t Wolves.”

“How about the sniper?”

While engaging with the attackers on the eastern staircase, I hadn’t heard any sniper fire. But considering the distance, it might just be that I missed it.

“No response. Anyway, they’ve set up a barrier in that room, so the Boss will be fine.”

“When are your men arriving? It’s been over twenty minutes.”

“Well, I think it’ll take a bit longer.”

Though they were delayed, those guys even cut off the phone lines.

There was a good chance that those familiar with the casino’s layout were coordinating from inside. Even if it looked like the situation was resolved, they might spring from among the casino employees at any moment.

“Alright, then let’s hold out like this until the reinforcements arrive.”

“…But what if others arrive first?”

“Then we have to wipe them out just like now. Any other good ideas?”

“….”

Solomon’s eight men, the consigliere Iktomi, and the mandrake too.

While the attackers’ casualties were several times greater, ours were by no means insignificant.

“Boss! More of them are coming!”

“Damn it. They really are sending more.”

“You stay here in the middle and play the reserve role with your men.”

After assigning a clear role to McBratney, I immediately headed to the eastern staircase. I had no doubt Solomon would handle things well at the western staircase.

“How’s it looking over there?”

“It’s quiet. One Wolf went down to check the downstairs staircase and said no one is there.”

Now that I think about it, it was suspicious.

The elevator kept stopping on the fourth floor, and gunshots were heard from outside the casino.

Yet, everyone inside the casino… specifically, everyone above the fourth floor seemed to be in chaos, trying to escape down the stairs.

Of course, they might be wisely waiting for the chaos to settle down.

*

Meanwhile, the appearance of other attackers coincided with the arrival of others near the casino.

Two forces, to be exact.

McBratney’s men and… Richard Vanella and his crew.

The former had hurried over thanks to their boss’s urgent request for support, and among them were even some of the already deceased Iktomi’s men.

On the other hand, the latter situation was different.

Some members of the Nun Robber Gang that had kidnapped Karen had fled westward.

The ones who tormented and killed the children had been killed by Vanella and his minions who arrived late at the orphanage, while those who turned themselves in to the police had already been captured by the Felini Family.

Only those guys remained.

The issues involving the Nun Robber Gang occurring in the eastern district were being well handled by Carso.

Those who had touched the children had become among the dearly departed, but Vanella’s boss, Elena Felini, had issued a strong warning to him.

If he didn’t properly take care of the fleeing guys, both Vanella and Karen would be as good as dead.

Vanella, meeting up with those who turned themselves in to the police, inquired about the whereabouts of the escaped ones.

Though it took some time, Vanella’s second-in-command, Hugh Dance, personally tortured them in front of the police to get a satisfying answer.

The direction the bastards had fled was west.

Thus, Vanella took his crew and headed west. Passing through the Solomon Family’s territory and entering the Sanchez Family’s territory, a good thought occurred to Vanella.

The Sanchez Family wasn’t immediately reacting to his appearance, but he couldn’t keep rummaging through their territory.

He thought of heading past the Sanchez Family’s territory into the Carmen Family’s territory to seek assistance from his other boss, and another boss who had become a boss’s younger brother.

When it came to information gathering, no one could match them, and it was highly likely that the Nun Robber Gang had lingered in or passed through their territory while fleeing westward.

“….”

“Something feels off.”

Vanella and Dance quickly sensed the unnatural atmosphere surrounding the Balis Casino, the stronghold of the Carmen Family.

The vehicles randomly parked in front of the casino, and the suspicious figures guarding the entrance.

Moreover, on the opposite road from where Vanella and his men were standing, McBratney’s men were rapidly approaching the casino.

“Alright, let’s head inside! Everyone, get ready!”

Vanella made an impromptu decision.

Though the boss’s orders didn’t fully relay to all his men, the surrounding escort vehicles moved along with the one Vanella was in.

But there was one problem.

When Vanella and Dance, with firearms in hand, got out of the car, they locked eyes with a police officer aboard a patrol car.

“….”

Vanella and Dance froze, caught off guard by the unexpected situation.

Even without considering, police were rushing to the scene due to the already ongoing shootout surrounding the Balis Casino.

“….”

An imminent situation.

But the police looking at them simply averted their gaze, ignoring them.

No matter how you think about it, it didn’t add up.

Executing justice was important, but one’s own life and the loved ones waiting for him back home mattered more.

“Now! Run!”

Meanwhile, with the police looking the other way, Vanella and Dance attempted to enter the casino with their men who had followed them out of the vehicle.

In that moment, the attackers caught between two directions found themselves unable to hold out for long, and the casino lockdown was lifted.

What could have been a crisis in which three of the Bosses of the Five Families could die had passed safely.
