Chapter 29

After returning to my room and changing from my uniform into casual clothes, I headed toward the next room.

“Toko.”

“What is it~?”

“Can I come in for a moment?”

“I’m changing, but sure~”

Having received permission, I entered her room. Toko had just gotten home and was in the process of changing into casual wear.

“Toko, what was that thing today?”

“Oh, that? It was annoying. They were deliberately trying to block me.”

Toko made an extremely disgruntled face, and once she finished changing, she sat down on her bed.

“Is it always like that?”

“Yeah, just when that guy named Mathias is around.”

“What about Sharl?”

“Sharl? Oh, the Student Council President? She doesn’t talk much. Mostly just glares at me.”

Hmm, I can see Sharl’s struggles…

“Can’t you get along with Sharl?”

“How am I supposed to get along with her? She’s a super-elite full of pride, and a real stickler as the Student Council President. There’s no way. We were born and raised differently.”

Hmm, once again, I can see Sharl’s struggles…

“Also, what’s with the way you talk?”

“Mistress-speak. Doesn’t it give off an elegant, prestigious vibe?”

I think it’s just polite language…

“Doesn’t really feel prestigious, does it?”

“That’s because Big Brother knows the real me. By the way, what were you doing with Yuika? You two seemed awfully chummy.”

She’s going to get mad if she finds out…

“Yesterday, we had a fierce battle in the training grounds. They say yesterday’s enemy is today’s friend, right?”

“Oh, Yuika is all about physical communication. Well, you are too though.”

You too, Toko.

“Are you on the liberal side?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Huh?

“Did you hear something about D Class being the liberal side and C Class being the aristocratic side?”

“Big Brother, what are you talking about? That sounds like something out of a manga; it can’t possibly be real, right?”

Does she not know about this…

“Try asking Ilmera or Noel.”

“Eh? Are you serious?”

“Dead serious.”

“… Give me a moment, I’ll go to the dorm.”

Toko stood up and headed toward the black gate.

“You’ve just changed? Ladies don’t wear clothes like that, right?”

Toko was wearing a loose T-shirt and shorts.

“Guess I’ll change.”

“I’ll be reading manga in the meantime.”

Since Toko started changing, I left the room.

“So, why aren’t you closing the door?”

Toko complained, so I turned back and closed the door before heading back into the room. As I passed the time reading manga while waiting for dinner, the door suddenly opened, and Toko entered the room.

“Turns out, I’m apparently on the liberal side without even knowing it!”

She must have asked either Ilmera or Noel.

“Well, in truth, that’s probably right. The La Folle house is important because it’s family, but does the whole lineage thing really resonate with you?”

I don’t really get it. Honestly, I don’t even know most of the families.

“Well, even so, isn’t it kinda harsh to just designate factions like that?”

“You’re in D Class, so at least it’s better than me being there just because of you.”

“That’s true; it’s better than a former NEET bottom feeder.”

Who’s a bottom feeder?

“Did Ilmera say anything?”

“She said, ‘Is this the result of prioritizing lineage?’ and made fun of Mathias.”

She’s so straightforward.

“Well, it doesn’t really matter. It’s all based on your aptitude test results. I’m sure if I had taken it, I would have ended up in the same place.”

“In any case, I’ll be in the same class as Big Brother…”

“How’s that, exactly? There’s always A Class and B Class too, right.”

I don’t know what kind of classes those are, though.

“Hmm, well, for now, it hasn’t leaked, so whatever.”

“Yeah, but Yuika already figured it out. It was the first time someone’s ever told me we smell the same even though we look different.”

“Hey, changing the subject, what’s so interesting about herbology?”

“It’s fun, right? Restoring HP and all that.”

Stop repeating the same thing.

“Tsukasa, Toko, dinner’s ready~!”

Mother’s voice called from the first floor.

“It’s dinner time!”

“It’s hamburg steak~!”

We descended to the living room to eat dinner. Then the following week started as usual with classes and idle chatter. Honestly, classes were difficult, but I worked hard to listen and try and understand as much as possible. Honestly, this was probably the first time I had ever taken school seriously.

“Tsukasa. Are you attending the magic lecture again today?”

After finishing Friday morning classes, Frank asked me.

“Yeah, I am.”

“Good job. Can you keep up?”

“I’ll try.”

“Hmm… Well, good luck. We’re heading back.”

Of course, Frank won’t be taking history classes like always.

“Does Cedric not take history?”

“I already learned history ages ago. Plus, it’s not that useful for magic anyway. That’s all theoretical learning.”

Theoretical learning…

Toko likes it, but I prefer the curses over that stuff.

“Hey, why is Tsukasa taking the curse class? Why?”

“Just interested in the removal of curses, that’s all.”

“Huh… unexpected.”

Of course it is.

“Which means I’m studying while you guys play around.”

“Why do you assume I’m going to play around? Maybe I’ll take history too.”

“Are you?”

“Nope.”

You’re not…

“Yuika, you’re studying with me, right?”

“Huh?”

Noel said with a smile, and Yuika looked shocked at Noel.

“Really?”

“Yes. If we keep going like this, we’ll get terrible test scores.”

While Yuika tried to stand up to escape, Noel grabbed her neck.

“Let’s do our best~”

“I don’t wanna…”

With Yuika utterly dejected, we decided to head back to the dorm for lunch.

Nagase Tsukasa, born into a prestigious family of modern-day wizards, had immense magic power from birth but could only use magic to strengthen his physical abilities. Resigned to the fact that he couldn’t become a proper wizard, Tsukasa decided to live an ordinary life as a regular person. However, Tsukasa wasn’t particularly bright. When applying for high school he aimed low and took the entrance exam for a backup school, but he slacked off and played around too much, resulting in him failing the exam and becoming a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). As Tsukasa awkwardly navigated his way through the new school year, he accidentally ended up wearing a cursed bracelet that would kill him if left alone. The curse was so powerful that even his mother, a skilled curse breaker, couldn’t lift it. To remove the bracelet he had two options; cut off his arm, or use his immense magic power to break the curse. Thus Tsukasa enrolled in a modern magic academy in a parallel world to learn the curse-breaking magic he needed. And so began Tsukasa’s carefree school life, where his only talents were his magic power and martial arts skills.
