Charlene and Michelle are looking at me.
Charlene has her usual stern expression, but Michelle is smiling brightly.
And they’re making absolutely no effort to look at each other.
I hold up a finger.
Both of them focus on it.
“It’s a finger.”
“Yeah… ”
“It’s a finger.”
I extend my hand and place my finger between their faces. The two of them track it with their eyes, and as soon as my finger reaches the midpoint between them, they both abruptly turn away.
“They definitely don’t look at each other… ”
This reminds me of Toko.
“It’s impossible…”
“Tsukasa-kun, try to see things from my perspective.”
You two should get along.
“Well, whatever. Principal, what’s the matter? I’m free this afternoon, but Sharl has a class.”
I also need to eat lunch, so we don’t have much time.
“Yes, I understand. Let’s get straight to the point; let’s talk about the other day.”
When the principal says this, both Charlene and Michelle turn their attention to him.
“About Wallace-sensei and Joan-senpai?”
“That’s right. After thorough investigations within the academy and the hidden sector, we’ve determined beyond doubt that both of them were indeed ‘Kuro.’”
Well, I kind of knew that already.
After all, they admitted it themselves.
“Is Wallace-sensei really gone?”
“Yes. His death was officially confirmed. It happened the day before the incident.”
So he was already dead the day before.
“Did Joan-senpai do it?”
“I believe so.”
I see…
“There’s no one else, right?”
“We searched both their houses. It’s confirmed that they acted together. Of course, we can’t rule out the possibility of an accomplice.”
That’s why Michelle is assigned as a guard now.
“Did you hear something about a spy?”
“Yes, it seems they were investigating the current state of mages in this town. That’s probably why they approached you, Tsukasa-kun.”
“Why not Toko?”
“Well, simply because your magical power is greater than hers. Also, Toko is a legitimate mage of La Folle among a few other reasons.”
And probably because she seemed easier to deceive…
“Did they think they couldn’t recruit La Folle?”
“It’s absolutely impossible to poach La Folle. They wouldn’t let her go.”
Yeah, Toko is very talented.
“And it’s the same for you, Tsukasa-kun. There’s no way La Folle would let you go. Grandma would definitely never allow it. As a matter of fact, I’ve been given orders to protect you even at the cost of my life.”
Michelle tells the principal.
“I understand that. Truth be told, the academy has also been under pressure.”
What is Grandma even doing?
“Will this pressure impose any restrictions?”
“No, not really. However, all teachers will be thoroughly examined.”
“I thought our freedom to leave the town might be restricted.”
“They’ve specifically said not to do that. They don’t want you to withdraw from school just as you’ve started attending again.”
Grandma, you’re misunderstanding something, right?
I didn’t not want to go to school; the school side practically refused me because of your academic standard.
“Sorry, I’ll talk to Grandma once.”
“Well, Tsukasa-kun’s situation aside, we need to do this regardless. Anyway, could you two keep quiet about this matter for now? The investigation is not yet complete.”
The two of us, of course, refer to me and Charlene.
“It’s fine with me. Honestly, I’d rather not tell my parents anyway.”
“I don’t mind either. Frankly, Iver probably won’t get involved much in this.”
Is it because La Folle is involved?
“Thank you. Wallace-sensei’s resignation will be recorded as due to personal reasons. Joan-san’s case will also be handled similarly.”
“Understood.”
“What about the replacement for our class?”
Right, Wallace-sensei was the homeroom teacher for Class C.
“It’s been decided that Helen-sensei will take over.”
“Got it. And one more thing, why is someone from Anvil here?”
Charlene asks without looking at Michelle.
“Because Tsukasa-kun could possibly be targeted, we’ve decided to assign a bodyguard.”
“Does Tsukasa really need one? From what we saw, Wallace-sensei was no match for him even after taking the enhancement potion. Also, Tsukasa excels in combat and has plenty of friends, so he never goes anywhere alone.”
“I know that, but it’s the decision of the upper management and La Folle’s will as well.”
“Will…”
Charlene finally looks at Michelle.
“What?”
“Nothing. I just hope you don’t get in Tsukasa’s way too much… Principal, I have a class this afternoon, so I’ll take my leave.”
Charlene bows and leaves the room.
“Phew…”
Once Charlene leaves, Michelle sighs deeply and glances at the ceiling.
“Is something wrong?”
“Not really, I just thought I’ve taken up a job I really don’t want to do.”
Are you saying that to your bodyguard target?
“Well, you can stop worrying about me. Feel free to slack off if you want.”
“Hmm… Maybe just when you leave the school? Oh, let’s exchange contact information. And let me know if you go out with Charlene.”
Michelle takes out her phone, and I do the same, so we exchange numbers.
“Why do you need to know if I’m going out with Charlene?”
“It’s obvious. Because I won’t be guarding you then.”
“Why not?”
Even though I told you to slack off, are you really going to?
“Just look at Charlene’s eyes earlier… Besides, Chloe will probably be around anyway.”
Yeah, I guess she probably is…
“Is she strong?”
“Of course. She serves as the next head’s attendant and is La Folle’s right hand. Be careful.”
“But if she’s just going to be annoying…”
“Even if she’s annoying, you should be careful.”
She really is annoying…
