004 Dekan’s Wonderful Confidence
“The academy is almost here. Do you want me to show you around?”
Trecia asked.
“Of course!”
Dekan was full of anticipation for his future life at the academy.
That morning, the carriage arrived at the academy.
Hevenlit Magic Academy was located on the outskirts of the Capital City, large enough to be considered a small town, making it seem an understatement to refer to it as merely an academy.
“Subarashi~”
“What does that mean?”
Trecia noticed that Dekan sometimes came up with strange words.
“It’s a language from Fusang, an ancient tongue,” Dekan explained.
Now Dekan and Trecia were at the main entrance on the north side of the school. After Trecia showed her student ID, Dekan followed her into the campus and once again looked around; the campus was indeed very spacious.
A huge pond, fountains, and flower beds extended from the entrance all the way to the school buildings.
Dekan nodded repeatedly, feeling very satisfied.
Before arriving at the academy, Dekan had already moved all his luggage from the carriage to a nearby inn.
He didn’t bring much clothing and supplies; most of the space was occupied by his card-making tools.
From here on, they had to walk around the campus, passing through numerous quaint yet grand buildings.
“This area is the district for the Alchemy Academy, and your entrance exam will take place in this main building,” Trecia said, pointing at a giant structure with a somewhat peculiar style.
Hevenlit Magic Academy is divided into four branches.
These four branches are: Summoning Academy, Mage Academy, Knight Academy, and Alchemy Academy.
The first three branches correspond to three common combat systems.
Of course, some exceptionally talented individuals can also forge a unique path.
The Alchemy Academy includes majors like potion making and magic card crafting.
“With your strength, passing the entrance exam for the Alchemy Academy should be a piece of cake!” Trecia said, hands on her hips, pride swelling in her chest.
Although it wasn’t her exam, little Dekan was someone she had brought back from the border.
She was proud of her friend.
“Yeah, but I want to test for the Knight Academy!” Dekan said with great confidence.
“Mm-hmm, you can definitely do it… huh?”
Trecia suddenly realized something was off midway through her response.
Knight Academy?
Didn’t you insist that you were a card maker who didn’t like fighting?
“Dekan, did you seriously read the admission brochure?”
Trecia pressed down on Dekan’s shoulder, looking at him earnestly.
Although she knew Dekan had exceptional abilities, talent shouldn’t be wasted like this!
If he failed the exam, he would have to wait until next year to try for the Alchemy Academy again!
Trecia didn’t want to see Dekan waste a precious year!
Dekan nodded, “The Knight Academy has the fewest required courses and the most flexible curriculum structure, and I can also access the resources I need.”
“Moreover, the courses in the Alchemy Academy… are not quite aligned with my path; learning them won’t be of much use to me. Also, I don’t want a personal mentor.”
“While the Mage Academy and Summoning Academy are acceptable, I completely fail at magic exams, and I haven’t prepared for the exam questions of the Summoning Academy…”
Dekan had seriously studied the curriculum structure of Hevenlit Academy.
Apart from the Mage Academy and Summoning Academy he was unlikely to pass, both Knight Academy and Alchemy Academy were ones he was confident about passing.
The Knight Academy’s principle is to teach according to the talents of students, prioritizing practical skills, hence the high flexibility in courses.
Additionally, many foolish warriors in the Knight Academy are reluctant to learn even basic magic courses or intelligence courses on the Shadow World.
The Knight Academy can’t force them; as long as students can earn enough practical combat credits in the Shadow World, they can still advance.
This is also a compromise for the foolish.
In comparison, the Alchemy Academy places a strong emphasis on fundamentals and academics.
After all, Alchemy Academy students don’t generally need to personally explore the Shadow World.
Thus, the academic courses in Alchemy Academy are often quite heavy.
Trecia pondered.
She roughly understood Dekan’s thoughts.
Indeed, a genius like Dekan might not want to waste time on tedious courses.
He wanted to be a free-spirited skiver.
However, the biggest question remained.
Could Dekan pass the entrance exam for the Knight Academy?
The exams for the Knight Academy are often very difficult and depend on whether the candidates can fight.
“Are you, perhaps, actually a very strong fighter or something?”
Trecia pinched Dekan’s arms, as if to confirm if he had a warrior’s physique.
“No, no, no, I’m absolutely not good at direct combat,” Dekan shook his head in response.
However, Trecia’s grip was controlled perfectly.
She didn’t hurt Dekan.
“Then how will you pass the Knight Academy exam?”
Trecia said, looking at Dekan with concern.
“Taking down the examiner shouldn’t be a problem,” Dekan said nonchalantly.
Historically, most practical exercises in the Knight Academy involve battling examiners under restricted conditions; as long as you can defeat the examiner, passing the entrance exam is basically guaranteed.
“Take down?! In some exam questions, even upperclassmen can’t defeat the examiner! And do you know about the new exam restrictions implemented in the Knight Academy in recent years?”
“Of course. In the Knight Academy entrance exam, candidates can only use one Summoning or Spell Card; there are no restrictions on equipment cards.”
Dekan had naturally seen those terms.
This rule is to prevent candidates who originally lack warrior qualifications from insisting on testing for the Knight Academy.
However, it is often summoners or mages who think this way.
Many peculiar motives exist, such as “wanting to challenge a hellish difficulty,” “showing you the might of a melee mage,” “I am the King of Endurance, fully armored, you and my summons can slowly fight,” etc.
Without exceptional abilities, mages and summoners find it hard to pass.
However, those who can force their way through are all talented individuals!
The Knight Academy warmly welcomes mages who can pass the practical tests while equipped with all their gear!
But.
Trecia had never heard of a card maker who rejected the Alchemy Academy to test for the Knight Academy!
Unless he was also an extremely strong combat profession that doesn’t rely on Summoning Cards or Spell Cards…
“Don’t worry, Trecia, my teacher said that although I’m not good at fighting, there aren’t many ordinary people who can take me on one-on-one.”
“…Ordinary people?”
“That refers to normal, decent people.”
“Where do you get these terms from…”
Trecia looked at him with disdain.
Though they had not spent much time together, she felt Dekan was not a person who would boast.
Could it be that he had some special countermeasure cards aimed at the warrior system?
From Goblin Bandit to Goblin Sheriff, Dekan, as a card maker, gave her a very eerie feeling.
It seemed impossible to regard him with ordinary common sense.
Perhaps in the Knight Academy’s exam…
He might actually deliver a performance that leaves everyone stunned.
