Chapter 06: Lin Nuo’s Choice
Lin Nuo and Ruo’er went out to buy some daily necessities, and for the time being, the two began living together.
During their cohabitation, Lin Nuo maintained his gentlemanly demeanor, always respecting Ruo’er’s wishes and not overstepping boundaries. He sought to charm her with his charisma.
With his wit and charm, Lin Nuo gradually captured Ruo’er’s heart.
However, they couldn’t get too close for now, as the aura between Immortals and Demons caused a repulsion.
But it wasn’t a big deal; given enough time to adapt, they could draw closer.
Yet, their warm moments were fleeting. Lin Nuo’s act of taking Ruo’er away ignited the furious wrath of the Immortals in Zifeng Valley, who were determined to hunt him down.
Before long, their secluded hideout was discovered, and Lin Nuo had no choice but to flee with Ruo’er.
“Ruo’er, are you willing to come with me?”
“Hm.”
Ruo’er decided to elope with Lin Nuo again, escaping the pursuit of the Immortals time and time again.
They believed that the world was vast and that there must be a place where they could be together, but it always ended the same; they barely enjoyed their cohabitation before the Immortals found them once more.
To prove his resolve to Ruo’er, Lin Nuo avoided conflict with the Immortals.
Thus, they ran, and ran, and ran, more desperately than in his previous life.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into my troubles.”
“It’s fine; there will always be a place suitable for us.”
Ruo’er said with a gentle laugh, still optimistic that they would one day be free from their fugitive life.
“This kind of life can’t go on forever.”
Lin Nuo held Ruo’er’s hand and suddenly stopped.
“Nuo Ge, what’s wrong…?” Ruo’er asked, puzzled.
“Let’s go back to Ru Yu Village.”
“Back to Ru Yu Village? But isn’t it dangerous there? What if it brings trouble to the villagers?”
“We’ll go near Ru Yu Village first, and then…”
Lin Nuo paused, not finishing his thought.
“And then what, Nuo Ge?” Ruo’er asked, confused.
“Ruo’er, if I really die, please bury me properly.”
“Ah? Nuo Ge, what do you mean…?”
Ruo’er panicked, sensing that Lin Nuo might be venturing into a battlefield of death.
“No, it’s just that given our current predicament, if something happens to me, it’s only to be expected. Besides, you’re right. Immortals and Demons were never meant to be together.”
“Nuo Ge… I think I should go back. That way, you can find a safe place to hide, without always being chased by the Immortals. Plus, I can send you intel…”
“Nuo’er, if I really meet with misfortune, will you still stay in Zifeng Valley?”
“Me…? I probably won’t stay there anymore… I was only there to find you, and I never had the ambition to save the world. I think I’ll just go back to Ru Yu Village…”
“Alright. Let’s head back.”
Lin Nuo declared, as they planned to approach Ru Yu Village without disturbing the villagers, knowing he had to take a risk.
He couldn’t keep dragging Ruo’er along in this fugitive lifestyle; he couldn’t live like this forever. Even if she was willing, he couldn’t bear it.
After all, being a Demon was a blemish that the Immortals would never tolerate.
Soon, they reached the vicinity of Ru Yu Village, and Lin Nuo could already sense that the Immortals were closing in on them.
He speculated that they could sense Ruo’er nearby, which is why they had been found repeatedly.
It was time to face the music.
“Nuo Ge, what are we going to do next…?” Ruo’er began to feel uneasy.
“Ruo’er, I had a dream. I dreamed that if I was released, I would be imprisoned by the Immortals of Zifeng Valley forever. I don’t want to see that scene again, but now I can’t provide you with a stable home. So…”
Lin Nuo looked at Ruo’er and smiled gently; even if he could return to this timeline, it seemed impossible for him to live quietly with Ruo’er.
“Nuo Ge… that was just a dream; it won’t come true…”
“Hm, it won’t come true.”
Lin Nuo smiled again, though he wasn’t sure of the truth.
“They’re coming closer.”
Lin Nuo felt the Immortals approaching; in a place like Ru Yu Village, they surely had patrols, and they might have already detected Lin Nuo’s presence.
“Ruo’er, if you kill me, you can become the hero of this world. You will have nothing to do with me, and you will be pure.”
“Nuo Ge, what are you talking about? I don’t understand…”
“We can’t run forever; there must be an end. So let’s put an end to it now. I hope you can bury me yourself.”
“Nuo Ge, this…”
“Don’t move!”
Suddenly, Lin Nuo drew his sharp Demon Sword, swiftly taking Ruo’er hostage.
At that moment, the Immortals from Zifeng Valley arrived just in time to see Lin Nuo holding Ruo’er hostage.
“Lin Nuo, you have nowhere to run! Let Ruo’er go! We might spare your life!”
Dong Xiyan shouted at Lin Nuo, but they were also wary of acting recklessly, fearing he might harm Ruo’er.
Lin Nuo didn’t press the blade against Ruo’er’s neck because he had promised he couldn’t bring himself to do such a thing.
“Spare me? I’d rather see you die! Don’t come closer, or I’ll kill her!”
Lin Nuo shouted at the Immortals; the louder he yelled, the paler Ruo’er became, as if he had nothing to do with her, reassuring that if anything happened to him, they wouldn’t touch her.
“Lin Nuo, don’t you understand? No matter how you run, we will find you. You have committed too many wrongs to escape. If you lay down your weapons now, we may consider leniency.”
“Impossible. If you want to act, then do it.”
Lin Nuo continued to shout, and a standoff ensued, while Ruo’er felt anxious. If Lin Nuo didn’t run soon, the number of Immortals would only increase, making it harder for him to escape.
She didn’t want to see Lin Nuo fighting them again; even if they were to wander together, she preferred not to see them in conflict.
The Immortals were trying to find a way to rescue Ruo’er, and at that moment, Lin Nuo purposely left an opening for them.
It was an opportunity!
Dong Xiyan seized the moment, unleashing a blast of energy in Lin Nuo’s direction. Lin Nuo didn’t dodge and took the hit, pretending to be severely injured, almost allowing Ruo’er to slip free from his grasp.
“Ruo’er, quick, come over!”
Dong Xiyan was about to reach Ruo’er when Lin Nuo conjured a whirlwind, surrounding both him and Ruo’er, hiding them from the Immortals outside.
“Nuo Ge, now’s our chance; we can leave! Hurry, or else…”
“Nuo’er, I can escape, but I can’t keep dragging you with me. You will become a hero; your path as an Immortal will be bright. When the time comes, please bury me well.”
With that, Lin Nuo struck his chest with a powerful blow, aiming directly at a vital point—essentially committing suicide.
“No!!!”
Ruo’er cried out and tried to stop him, but it was too late, and Lin Nuo fell to the ground.
