1.
Since I was a child, I’ve always loved the superhero genre.
Upholding justice, the triumph of good over evil, karma, and the manifestation of righteousness—aren’t these all romantic and admirable concepts? Some might dismiss these ideals as mere daydreams, but for me, the very idea of justice had a magnetic appeal.
That’s why I also loved the game “Blue Archive.”
Though the setting is primarily an academy and focuses on daily life, at its core, the story is rooted in the classic narrative of good triumphing over evil. The virtuous prevail, the wicked are subdued, and tragedy is overcome to reach hopeful conclusions.
Who could dislike such stories? Moreover, isn’t there a part of every man that secretly dreams of becoming a hero, embodying justice?
Especially when real life on Earth feels so harsh.
But right now, I’m genuinely wishing I could return to Earth.
“Ugh. I don’t know how I got lost, but try not to lose your way again from now on.”
Rio Tsukatsuki, the student council president of Millennium Academy and a future villain, was escorting me while checking my real-time computational data in a seminar room.
It hurts. It’s humiliating!
Mob characters and standout characters from Millennium are staring at me with curiosity from all corners of the seminar room.
“Who’s this? Looks like a new student.”
“Hmm, it seems like they got lost, so the president brought them here?”
“…Got lost? In Millennium?”
Aaaah! Stop looking at me that way!
“Alright, here, I’ve sent you a capture file via email, so you may leave now.”
“…Yes, ma’am.”
I’m sure I’ll soon become the legendary new student of the seminar, known for forgetting my schedule and getting lost just a few days after enrolling.
“Is Millennium really getting such scatterbrained new students?” Probably what everyone is thinking right now.
If only they had let me possess a body on the day of the orientation.
Before leaving the seminar room, I deeply bowed my head and exited.
“Hmph.”
On my first day of possession, I’m reminded of the bitter taste of life.
2.
Upon reflection, there was another reason I loved “Blue Archive.”
Villains. Specifically, fascinating villains.
Not the simplistic kind that embodies mere “evil,” but complex ones who act based on their own circumstances, beliefs, and goals. “Blue Archive” was filled with such captivating villains.
Rio Tsukatsuki, the student council president whom I just met, was one of them. Despite receiving a foreboding prophecy, she eventually fulfills a self-fulfilling prophecy out of tragic necessity. Yet, her ultimate purpose was the salvation of Kiburatos.
“Her goal was undoubtedly righteous, but the means and methods she chose were evil.”
That’s why I refer to Rio as a tragic villain. She gained knowledge that no one could understand and, instead of succumbing to despair, she tried to stop it by any means. However, all her choices only brought about the realization of the prophecy.
This is exactly the opposite of the type of hero I used to admire on Earth.
“I can’t ignore this fact and pretend I don’t know.”
After being transferred here, I’ve decided to do what I want in Kiburatos.
What’s the basic premise of a body-switching story? Possessing a character in a story and altering the established history by introducing variables. Since I’ve been transferred to this world, I won’t let things progress according to the original timeline.
Aren’t these reasonable goals?
First goal: Interfere with the main storyline.
Second goal: Become stronger.
In a place without levels or mana, how can I grow stronger? Of course, there are mystical powers, but…
“If I weren’t just an unnamed mob, I might have considered using that.”
However, the body I possess is that of a mob—an anonymous, exceedingly common extra. So, I need to grow stronger in a way that fits this environment.
The academy I attend is Millennium ‘Science’ School, the most advanced civilization in Kiburatos.
Here, I should be able to create “it”—whatever I imagine.
“…I’ll be Millennium’s ‘Tony Stark.'”
Of course, I won’t be doing everything with my own hands—there are engineers here who can help me realize my dream.
The Engineering Department. That’s where I’ll achieve my grand ambition!
…After attending all my classes, of course.
3.
“Ugh…”
After classes ended, I grabbed some lunch and collapsed on a nearby park bench.
Millennium Science School lives up to its name. Every class is advanced and difficult to keep up with. It’s not just math and science; there are also classes in politics, history, and literature.
And judging from the schedule Rio gave me, the educational system here is straightforward yet familiar. Similar to normal high schools, but with a focus on science characteristic of specialized schools. Moreover, once you join a club, you can take additional specialized courses related to it.
It’s like a mix of high school and university.
Whether other academies are the same, I’m not sure, but this aspect is intriguing.
“Strange, but familiar at the same time.”
The only unfamiliar part is probably “guns.” In the “Blue Archive” universe, all students are trained in the use and theory of firearms as part of the curriculum. I, too, currently carry a gun like my peers.
“Of course, the content is ridiculously difficult…”
The courses at Millennium are generally of a high level. It’s more comparable to university than high school, especially in science-related subjects.
Since I was preparing for college entrance exams just a few months ago, I can follow somewhat, but as we delve deeper into advanced topics, it’s only going to get tougher.
“I guess I need to study here too…”
This is…
“Why isn’t my body Tony Stark’s…”
Every hero story has a genius protagonist. Not being one of them is truly lamentable.
“Alright, stop sulking and get up.”
I straightened my resolve and stood up. I didn’t come here just to study. Now is the time to act in pursuit of the goals I’ve set.
“To the Engineering Department.”
The place where my dream will come true. The gathering of engineers who will help create all the hero equipment I’ve imagined.
I headed there.
…
…
“…What?”
“I want to build something like this…”
I barged in without preparation, grabbed a random mob, and asked for advice.
The response was…
“We can’t do that easily…”
…
Rejected.
…
…
It’s simple.
Resources, people, and money.
The three elements needed to achieve my goal.
They’re not omnipotent robot cats who will create anything just because I say “please.” Was the idea I presented that groundbreaking?
Hmm… It seems not. The mob’s reaction was lukewarm. In this world, which is more advanced than the one I came from, such ideas aren’t particularly innovative.
So, what should I do now?
Should I give up and just focus on studying?
No way.
“This is the path to realizing my romantic dream.”
I muttered under my breath while walking, quietly enough that no one heard.
The idea I had since arriving here: to interfere with the main storyline and finally become the hero I’ve always dreamed of.
I will never give up on this—it’s my goal, my ultimate belief.
Why was I chosen? Why me? I won’t dwell on these recurring questions. Whether it was by chance or for some reason, since I’m here, I intend to enjoy my youthful academy life in my own way.
So, I won’t give up—for any reason.
“I will make it happen somehow, even if it’s a thorny path…”
My first day of possession. The girl who got lost on her first day has embraced the heart of a hero.
4.
I need to earn money.
How can one make money in the academy city of Kiburatos?
It’s not much different from reality. Just with the added element of “guns” in the process—this is their everyday reality, after all.
But I have another method in mind.
It’s impossible to achieve my target amount of money by just taking random jobs.
So, what method did I think of?
“Manifesting justice.”
Evildoers who parasitize the hidden underside of Kiburatos.
I plan to take them down and recover their stolen goods, returning them to lawful circulation.
In the process, I’ll also assess the capabilities of the body I’ve possessed and practice using the gun.
“Tonight, I go hunting.”
Starting today, I will become a vigilante of Kiburatos.
