Chapter 100. Sneaking Away, Awaiting the Explosion
Everything was arranged properly, and the disciples were led to their respective alchemy furnaces.
Before the alchemy began, Yu Zheng explained the functions of various materials and the importance of their measurements. His explanations were clear, full of useful information, allowing everyone to have a basic understanding of the alchemical process.
Next, Yu Zheng demonstrated the operation, explaining when to ignite the fire, how to channel spiritual energy, how long to maintain it, and all the various stages, of course, giving only a rough simulation; he couldn’t possibly repeat the entire process for several hours.
“Now, I wish you all good luck.”
Yu Zheng smiled and began to walk around the disciples’ furnaces, answering their questions and providing guidance diligently.
Meanwhile, over at Lin Nuo’s station…
“What’s the use of this, and how much do I need to put in?”
Su Kexin pouted, flipping through the guide, carefully examining every step outlined in it.
Lin Nuo couldn’t help but smile; she was acting just like a clueless student performing an experiment, checking the instructional book step by step as she placed the materials.
However, what frustrated Lin Nuo was that despite Su’s seeming ignorance in the experiment, she managed to refine a large golden pill and grasped the essence of alchemy, leaving Lin Nuo to marvel at how utterly unreasonable it was for the protagonist to be so strong.
Mu Yiting, who was in the same group and observing Su Kexin’s actions, was also following the guidelines, handling things with great care.
This was a guise of a studious top student; Lin Nuo had already seen through Mu Yiting’s facade. She excelled at alchemy; this type of cultivation was merely child’s play for her, but she pretended to be a novice, likely to showcase her “humble beginnings” with statements like, “Oh, this is my first time, but I got it!”
Lin Nuo didn’t bother with them; he had his own task to complete—placing the Dark Scale Stone.
Glancing at the guide, he had a general idea of the quantities needed and took them out one by one, placing them in a small dish.
“I’ve gathered all the materials we need; you guys check it too.”
Lin Nuo first followed the rules of their collaboration game and showed the organized materials to Mu Yiting and Su Kexin.
“Um… it should be fine, right…?” Su Kexin wasn’t entirely certain herself either, sounding ambiguous.
“Yep, that’s right! As expected of you, Senior Brother Lin Nuo, to choose so quickly!”
Mu Yiting squinted and smiled, on the surface praising Lin Nuo respectfully while internally thinking it was no big deal.
“Alright, I’ll put it in.”
Lin Nuo placed the materials into the alchemy furnace, and coincidentally, he threw in the black material, the Dark Scale Stone, as well.
Expression unchanged, he completed the first step smoothly, just like adding ordinary materials.
Next came the ignition phase, where they needed to burn to refine the golden pill.
The fiery process involved several stages, each requiring spiritual energy to sustain.
Since Lin Nuo had the lowest spiritual energy, he decided to ignite the fire. The first stage would be his responsibility, which was simple enough for a second-tier cultivator like him.
The next stage was up to Su Kexin, who was a bit nervous, but she reminded herself of the teamwork involved, assuring she couldn’t fall behind. Taking a deep breath, she continually recalled the steps from the guide, then began to channel her energy.
She worked hard, and everything went smoothly, successfully passing the second stage.
The third stage was Mu Yiting’s turn, and she aimed to showcase her alchemical skills before Lin Nuo. It also went very smoothly.
Their group cooperated, channeling energy and refining the pill with great progress. However, as they reached the later stages of energy control, Lin Nuo started keeping an eye out because the conditions for the Dark Scale Stone were just right—it was about to explode, and he had to sneak away.
But just moments ago, the alchemy master Yu Zheng had already left the alchemy room.
…
Tianling Mountain, Fish Peak Valley Path.
Yu Zheng had successfully exited, and his position allowed him to see the alchemy room from a distance.
Using his spiritual sense, he saw Mu Yiting still channeling energy into the furnace, with Su Kexin and Lin Nuo assisting her nearby.
Their alchemical progress was very smooth, nearing the explosion point of the Dark Scale Stone. According to his deductions, when they reached the final stage and Mu Yiting infused the furnace with energy, it would absolutely trigger the explosion. At that point, it’d be catastrophe, all would be engulfed in flames!
He had lurked in the Xuanyun Sect for so long, acting like a nice guy alchemist, smiling at these righteous disciples every day. He had enough of that life, and now, it was finally time to leave, blowing up Mu Yiting and the other Xuanyun Sect disciples along with her.
After that, he could return and receive rewards for his efforts, and he’d be able to secure a foothold in the underworld.
It won’t be long now. Very soon, it will explode.
He had already prepared his spells to record this scene.
…
“I’m feeling a bit unwell; you guys keep an eye on things. I’ll be back shortly.”
Lin Nuo said goodbye to Su Kexin and Mu Yiting, then promptly exited the alchemy room.
Alright, it’s almost time for the explosion; time to hurry.
Walking along the path in Fish Peak Valley, Lin Nuo knew he had to distance himself from the alchemy room to witness the grand explosion.
Su Kexin was destined for destruction.
The protagonist shall die, and the villain shall rise!
