Chapter 101

Dragon Soar Internet Cafe looked no different from an ordinary internet cafe.

And it was the kind of place that didn’t have very good business.

Dim lighting, a faint smell of smoke, only more than ten computer stations were lit, giving people the feeling that it wouldn’t be long before it closed down.

Chen Huaian looked down at Lin Lingling beside him and asked, “Didn’t you say Wuzzy Beard would come out to meet us?”

“Hmm…” Lin Lingling paused for a moment, then lifted her leg and walked forward, “Maybe something came up, it’s not a big deal, I’ll take you upstairs.”

When they ascended to the fourth floor via the stairs at the back of the internet cafe, they were immediately hit with a strong smell of bl**d.

Lin Lingling’s pupils contracted as she bit her lip, “Something’s happened.”

The two quickly crossed the corridor and arrived at a room at the end which had its lights on.

The smell of bl**d was even stronger. Inside the room, there were three sofas placed casually around. Several people sat on the sofas; in the middle was Wuzzy Beard who had his head down smoking. In front of them on the floor lay two bloodied corpses.

“Boss!” Lin Lingling called out and entered the room with Chen Huaian.

Her gaze quickly glanced over the corpses, her pupils contracting slightly, her body trembling.

The two corpses were in a pitiful state, their heads had been pierced by something, their brains missing, leaving behind hollow cavities. Their faces were contorted in agony, bl**d oozing from all seven orifices, their eyes rolled upwards showing the whites.

Two civilian Demon-Slaying Corpses, White Level.

One of them was quite young, Lin Lingling remembered him.

She recalled he used to be a programmer, and they once went on missions together.

On the same night they submitted their mission materials, this guy inexplicably confessed his feelings to her, saying he liked her and wanted to have a football team with her, completely disregarding the fact that she was underage and the age gap of eight or nine years between them—it was really awkward!

But seeing this person d*e here still made her feel sorrowful for the fallen.

“You’re coming at a pretty good time,” Wuzzy Beard extinguished his cigarette, his face grim, “The situation is now extremely urgent, there’s a demon that has already targeted us. These two corpses are its victims among the Resurrectors, and it threw these two Resurrectors here as a show of force, clearly not taking our Demon-Slaying Division seriously!”

“The demon is too rampant!”

“Indeed, once I’ve practiced the Breathing Technique, I will certainly make these demons pay!”

“Boss, just tell us what to do?”

All the Demon-Slaying Masters present looked indignant.

Chen Huaian scanned each one, nodding inwardly.

No wonder these were the Demon-Slaying Masters who walk on the edge of life and d*ath to ensure the safety of mankind.

At least currently, they all appeared to be full of righteous spirit.

Next should be everyone discussing and analyzing the demon’s intelligence, then finding its hiding place, surrounding it and thoroughly destroying it to demonstrate the power of the Demon-Slaying Division and the determination of the Demon-Slaying Masters, further enhancing the cohesion of everyone, right?

Lin Lingling’s passion was also ignited, her delicate face tense, her fists clenched as she solemnly said: “Boss! Just say what to do, we’ll follow your lead!”

“We…”

Wuzzy Beard crossed his hands on the table, his eyelids drooping as he looked at everyone and spoke gravely:

“We… run—away—!”

Chen Huaian: “???”Lin Lingling: “…”

“Truly worthy of being the Division Chief, profound insight!”

“That’s right, this strategic relocation is crucial, the demon definitely won’t expect it!”

“Boss, this isn’t right!” Lin Lingling stared wide-eyed, unwillingly protesting, “The demon is attacking us, and we’re running away? We are Demon-Slaying Masters! Besides, if we can run away, the division cannot. We can’t let that demon chase us forever, right?!”

Wuzzy Beard sighed as he looked at the girl filled with anger in front of him.

How could he not know that Lin Lingling was absolutely correct?

But that demon wasn’t easy to provoke. He stayed in the Demon-Slaying Division all night yesterday, but the demon still managed to sneak into his office and leave the bodies without anyone noticing. That means, in a sense, when he was sleeping, the demon could have killed him silently.

Among those present, he was the strongest Demon-Slaying Master.

Even he wasn’t a match for it, so should he bring these White-level Masters along to be slaughtered?

Now that they have the Breathing Technique, he could definitely take these willing Resurrectors and endure for a while. Once everyone’s strength improves, such demons wouldn’t pose much of a threat anymore.

“Lin Lingling, I understand what you’re saying, but…”

“What understanding?” A sharp voice sounded above everyone, accompanied by a crazed, sinister laugh, “Hehehe~ As a Demon-Slaying Master yet afraid of demons, the first thought upon encountering a demon is to flee? Truly laughable!”

“Who?!” Wuzzy Beard’s heart was filled with alarm.

Everyone looked up towards the ceiling.

They saw that the ceiling was already covered with black spider webs.

A spider as large as a conference table was perched at the center of the web, its back facing everyone. Its head ‘crackled’ as it turned around, revealing a ghastly pale human face. This face resembled a mask, with red paint outlining the eyes, nose, and a bizarre grin stretching to the ears.

“A demon!” All the Demon-Slaying Masters drew their weapons.

Some used cold weapons like Lin Lingling.

However, judging by their panicked expressions, they were evidently quite fearful of the man-faced spider.

“It’s not a demon, it’s an Out-of-Control One!” Wuzzy Beard’s eyes narrowed as he pulled open the cabinet next to him, grabbing an exaggerated-looking shotgun and a machete. He fired a shot at the man-faced spider, using the opportunity while the spider defended itself with silk threads to shout at everyone,

“This is a Soldier-Level D-Rank Out-of-Control One, you’re no match for it. Call for headquarters support, I’ll buy some time!”

“Heh heh, you actually think you can hold us off?”

The Out-of-Control One leapt down from the ceiling, colliding with Wuzzy Beard and smashing through a wall.

Amidst the dust, Wuzzy Beard’s painful scream could be heard.

“Chen Huaian, let’s go!”

Lin Lingling grabbed Chen Huaian’s hand and ran.

An existence at the Soldier level was absolutely not something they, mere underlings, could contend with.

After joining the Demon-Slaying Division, she’d already witnessed numerous deaths. She was no longer the reckless novice who would charge in upon seeing a demon.

The other Demon-Slaying Masters also retreated.

It wasn’t that they lacked compassion; rather, calling for reinforcements was the best choice at the moment. Rushing in would only hinder Wuzzy Beard.

Now they could only hope their leader could hold on.

“What was that just now?”

In a deserted alley, Chen Huaian looked at Lin Lingling who was panting heavily against the wall.

“Out-of-Control Ones.” Lin Lingling caught her breath, glancing sideways at Chen Huaian who showed no signs of fatigue. “Strictly speaking, they aren’t demons. Out-of-Control Ones come in two types: one type consists of Resurrectors who gained powers and then retaliated against society, while the other type consists of Resurrectors whose powers were too malevolent, causing them to be consumed by their own abilities, eventually turning into half-human, half-ghost monsters.”

“So the one earlier was the latter?”

“Exactly.”

Lin Lingling wiped her sweat and took out her phone, her eyes filled with anxiety:

“Out-of-Control Ones have completely twisted minds and spirits, making them difficult to handle. Moreover, they are generally quite powerful and belong to the category of wanted criminals. I need to call for reinforcements immediately!”

“Wanted criminal? Bounty?”

Upon hearing the keywords, Chen Huaian’s eyes brightened, licking his lips.

“Meaning this thing is worth a lot of money?”

Lin Lingling hesitated and nodded, “Of course, wanted criminals are valuable, though I’m not sure exactly how much.”

“More valuable than killing demons?”

“Definitely.”

“Good.” Chen Huaian nodded, pulling out a stack of talismans from his chest.

From what he knew, the demons they had encountered so far included wolf demons and black-furred rat demons.

Facing the wolf demon, he hadn’t felt any threat, so the wolf demon died instantly.

Similarly, facing the black-furred giant rat, he hadn’t felt any threat either, so the black-furred rat also met the same fate.

Therefore, Wolf Demon = Black-Furred Rat = Instant d*ath.

He hadn’t felt any threat from the man-faced spider earlier.

Thus: Man-Faced Spider = Black-Furred Rat = Wolf Demon.

Ultimately: Man-Faced Spider = Instant d*ath.

That thing would be struck dead by his talisman!

Having reached this conclusion, Chen Huaian turned and walked out of the alley.

Lin Lingling watched Chen Huaian’s retreating figure and shouted anxiously, “What are you going to do?!”

Chen Huaian paused briefly, smiling,

“Earning money!”
