Chapter 101

1.

The initial awkwardness of our first meeting dissipated as we began to converse.

First, before diving into our discussion, we started to alter the landscape of this dream world into a more conversation-friendly environment.

Well, more accurately, it was closer to transforming it according to Seia Yurizono’s taste, who was accustomed to living in this dream world.

Lucid dreaming, or ‘lucid dream’ as it’s often called, is said to enable one to modify the dream world at will.

Just as the saying goes, Seia Yurizono could be called a dream expert, being so accustomed to living within dreams that altering the surroundings was a simple task for her.

The sound of the earth turning over and collapsing echoed.

Thereafter, lush vegetation sprouted in the starkly white dream world, and the picturesque old structures of Trinity Academy arose.

It was a sight that might as well have been another reality being created.

But I noticed that what Seia was creating was closer to ‘restoration’ than creation.

The long, vertical dessert table, the clock tower visible through the window, the cool breeze blowing through the spacious area, and the beautiful, picturesque scenery of Trinity, all at once forming a place that seemed to belong to an upper class.

And simultaneously, it was a familiar place to me as well.

“…A spot where you enjoyed tea with your friends, right?”

“Did you notice? Yes, it’s true. A place where I used to enjoy the view of Trinity with my friends and have conversations… For me, it’s the most vivid and familiar location and memory.”

Thinking back, the scenery where Seia used to converse with her teacher was the same as this one.

It seems Seia can instantly restore this place within the dream world, implying just how much she yearns for it.

No, it’s not just yearning; there must be other emotions at play.

Considering Seia sees more than most people, her ability to recreate this place so accurately means it holds great significance for her.

“Seriously, how many times have I done this…? No, I don’t really need to ask. Stupid question.”

“….It’s quite alright.”

An unimaginable number of times it must be. Truly.

Contemplating the phenomenon this girl before me experiences, it’s hard to fathom how much pain she must endure.

‘If only I had come earlier, could I have saved this child?’

…I don’t know.

I bitterly smiled and sat at the tea table, drinking the tea Seia had quietly prepared. Sitting beside me, Seia, too, wearing a faintly bitter smile, soon shook her head and looked at me.

It was a look that said, “Now that we’ve adjusted the environment, let’s get down to serious conversation.”

I nodded.

2.

We didn’t have many questions for each other.

Given that both of us possessed certain knowledge about the future, we came with the slight conviction that minimal questioning would suffice to find answers.

More accurately, because we both experienced similar phenomena — “the curse of knowledge” — we developed a sense of shared identity.

Speaking of the doubts I intended to clarify with Seia:

First, the reason for me losing my mysteries.

Second, my appearance in the future.

Third, my resolve regarding my current actions.

These can be summarized as the main points.

Of course, there were many other doubts still tormenting me, but as these are questions even a prophet couldn’t answer, I decided to keep it at this.

However…

“…Hmm.”

Seia’s expression twisted upon hearing my questions.

To be exact, it was a look of frustration, as if she had encountered unexpected questions.

When I gave her a puzzled look, she grabbed her head and bitterly chuckled.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t answer all your questions…”

“Can you explain why?”

“The second question, that’s actually something I wanted to ask you…”

“…?”

What does that mean?

You’re asking me about my future?

How am I supposed to know? I don’t have any foresight.

Seia seemed to catch the expression of confusion on my face and smiled faintly as she shook her head.

“I know you don’t have prophetic abilities. This is… just my own doubt, a variable or possibility I found within my own foresight.”

“…possibility?”

That’s strange terminology coming from Seia.

According to her foresight, the future of this world has been decided since the beginning of time.

Words like ‘possibilities’ contradict the nature of her foresight.

Yet for some reason, Seia was exploring me deeply, almost rejecting the value of her own prophetic abilities.

As if she had seen a glimmer of hope amid despair.

“Your knowledge is more akin to ‘the past’ rather than the future. Understanding events that have already occurred leads to this occurrence, I think…”

Confusing words kept pouring out.

In that moment, Seia was lost in her own world, muttering incessantly.

Crackling sound

Suddenly, Seia’s golden eyes began to flicker ominously.

“Wha…?!”

“Seia?”

There was no response.

Seia simply exuded an eerie gaze as she looked up at the vast sky, muttering incomprehensible sentences.

What’s going on? Why are her eyes like that?

“Uh, so my foresight is… malfunctioning right now!”

Seia, struggling to speak.

Through her words, I realized she had once again fallen into a dreadful vision.

More specifically, into the depths of her mysterious foresight.

Why? Why now?

Even though there wasn’t much I personally could do, I simply waited for her to regain her senses.

After a few minutes of waiting…

Seia’s trembling body stiffened, and her eerily glowing eyes refocused.

Then, as she closed and reopened her eyes…

“I’m sorry, Silk.”

“Hm?”

What’s she apologizing for?

I looked at Seia with a puzzled expression, and she returned it with a gaze filled with sadness.

Then, she continued.

“In the future I foresaw… you do not exist, Silk.”

“…?!”

A shocking revelation escaped Seia’s lips.

“I can’t tell you about your future. In fact, … I want to ask you this.”

Seia, displaying the aura of a prophet, turned her golden eyes, now glowing with a mysterious light, toward me.

Then, suddenly she started tearing up—wait.

Why is Seia crying just now?

“What, what is this all of a sudden? Are you okay?”

“…Despite not being caught in my foresight, I’ve faintly come to understand the choice you’ve made.”

?? What’s she talking about?

“Choosing to step back one step to move forward two steps. That must be it…”

“Seia?”

“Aah… Have you chosen to remain in hell for the salvation of all mankind?”

Seia had now moved closer to me, gently stroking the back of my hand while shedding even more sorrowful tears.

Though her crying tugged at my heartstrings, confusion and bafflement took over my mind.

I eyed her curiously, and she seemed to meet my gaze, nodding slightly as if comprehending my thoughts.

“Yes… From this point of view, it looks like an event that hasn’t happened yet, a choice made in the distant past.”

“…from the distant past?”

” I see someone who made a different choice from you… Someone I’ve foreseen, a demon seeking transcendence through everyone’s trials in the moment of apocalypse…”

“…”

“Someone who brought chaos to this world by introducing something unnatural from another realm while still aiming to guide all beings to heaven… This entity will eventually appear to meet you.”

At some point, Seia had forsaken her usual speaking tone and began issuing a warning to me.

It was a genuine prophecy, one that doubled as a deeply fearful confession.

“There will be many trials ahead. But… do not fear, and move forward toward what you desire.”

“…”

“Under unwavering conviction, save everyone.”

Seia began trembling, as if truly witnessing something terrifying.

I hardened my expression as I pulled her close, comforting her.

A familiar yet peculiar sensation tickled my mind the moment I heard Seia’s words.

A hazy vision began to waver in my mind.

“I will lead all beings to the heavenly realm.”

“To save all mankind, I will create a haven for them.”

A voice filled with madness echoed across the depths of my memory.

A sound of pure malevolence, devoid of any sense of righteousness, discipline, or virtue.

I know who this entity is.

“Perhaps… one of the endpoints I might reach.”

A world where foaming tragedies bubble.

A future version of myself who faced a tragic conclusion.

Could the entity that Seia saw be that being?

If that’s true, why does Seia perceive differences between me and that entity?

I wonder if the answer lies in some past decision of mine?

“…”

I don’t know. There’s no clear way to dispel the doubts cluttering my mind right now.

But…

“You are the only one who escapes my foresight.”

Seia’s words gave me certainty.

Is the future decided?

Or is it merely a tumultuous collection of possibilities?

I don’t know. But I realized one thing today.

My future is something I carve out myself.

3.

“Are you feeling better now?”

“…Ah… Yes, yes… I’m sorry…”

It seems Seia, who had regained her senses, remembered what happened and her face flushed red.

As I let her out of my embrace with a dry smile, for some reason, she didn’t step away from my lap.

“Seia…?”

“…Can I… ask one more thing?”

“Huh? Sure. What is it?”

But for some reason, Seia hesitated, twisting her body on my lap.

Is it something difficult to say?

I pondered as I looked at her.

Finally, Seia spoke.

“…Please.”

“Please what…?”

“At some point, please save my friends.”

“…”

In that instant, I understood.

This was not simply a request from Seia Yurizono, a member of the T party and seer—

but a heartfelt plea.

“Only you, who have escaped from my foresight, have the chance to halt all tragedies. So please…”

…it was more like an appeal.

It was a desperate yearning born from the desire to save her friends.

Seia, having witnessed a desperate future for an immeasurably long time and given up on everything, was making a desperate effort not to let go of the glimmer of hope before her.

Her plea was clumsy and unfamiliar, as someone who didn’t know how to properly ask for help.

Seeing this, Seia looked both pitiful and commendable.

“Seia.”

“Please…”

“Seia, Seia.”

“Ye…Yes?”

I firmly embraced her, shaking with anxiety.

Startled by the sudden bear hug, Seia turned her head to look at me, her trembling golden eyes shining.

“Don’t worry. I have no intention of giving up on anyone.”

“…”

“I plan to save not only your friends but you as well, whether you ask or not. So…”

It’s okay not to be anxious anymore.

You no longer have to tremble in fear, hiding from reality.

I said this to her.

These were the words I had wanted to tell Seia for a long time now, and simultaneously…

…words I had wanted to say to myself.

Seia and I are in similar positions.

After all, we both know the ominous events of the future.

Of course, our perspective on reality and the powers we possess, as well as the achievements we can make, are completely different.

Despite this, we still consider each other as similarly placed.

Why? The answer is simple: we both possess knowledge that others cannot comprehend.

Therefore, we can understand each other and offer sincere comfort.

Just as I was comforted by Seia’s firm prophecy earlier, I am now also able to console her.

Because we are the only ones who truly understand each other.

“Seia, do you trust me?”

“…Yes, of course.”

“Then watch. I will save everyone.”

“Haha, hahaha…”

Seia’s eyes brimmed with tears.

The difference now is that the tears reflect not despair, but a calm sense of relief.

“…I’m glad I came to meet you.”

Seia said this and smiled faintly.
