Chapter 102

Humans are inherently sensitive to the element of luck.

More precisely, it can be said that humans instinctively react against the uncertainty of the future and the various dangers approaching them.

However, luck has always been an opportunity granted from above, a miracle beyond human comprehension. Even though humanity, once merely creatures dealing with rocks and sticks, had awakened to the concept of reason, ‘the future’ and ‘uncertainty’ remained factors filled with anxiety and dread.

Tarot cards, birth charts, astrology, feng shui.

There’s a reason why people believe in such superstitions. One could even say that the birth of divination akin to superstition is evidence of how much humans depend on elements of luck.

Since every human is granted only one life, it’s perhaps an instinct of all humans to desire certainty about the future.

I was no different.

What I sought at Trinity was certainty, and as a result, I gained a certain degree of it.

But…

“…In doing so, I gained an even greater worry.”

Recalling the content I heard in this world, where real prophecy exists, unlike the Earth of my past life.

It was certainly a statement that gave me enough confidence to partly purify the demons within my heart, but simultaneously, it was also a statement that made me contemplate other concerns.

– “There will be many trials. But… do not fear and move forward for what you desire.”

– “Rescue all under the foundation of firm belief.”

– “I see someone who makes a choice different from yours…”

– “I see a devil aiming to transcend everyone’s trials during the final moment.”

– “The one who caused the current turmoil, the one who sent unknown evil to this world from another realm. A being who twists the natural order while trying to elevate all to heaven.”

– “A step back to move two steps forward. It was that kind of decision…”

– “Ah… did you remain in hell to save everyone?”

Extremely, brilliantly delivered but unsettling words.

At the time, due to the urgency of the situation, I couldn’t fully comprehend them, but as time passed, I began to understand the statements she had made.

Summarizing the prophecies Seiya delivered roughly goes like this:

First, move forward for what I desire.

Second, there exists someone who made a choice different from mine.

And third, I’ve already made a certain choice in the past.

Each statement was seemingly understandable. Interpreting the true meaning hidden within them, however, was impossible—abstract sentences indeed.

The sentences provided just enough information to grasp the situation roughly but not entirely.

Isn’t this strange?

These pieces of advice were too perfect for me. They were solid enough to discard my current concerns and set new goals.

Almost too convenient.

Upon reflection, Seiya’s method of gaining prophecies wasn’t of the same form as the recent one.

Thus, I realized something was off.

“…How does Seiya know these pieces of information?”

This was my first question. Understanding the essence of Seiya’s prophecy ability made me feel a sense of dissonance, specifically regarding the source of this information.

Having prophetic dreams is Seiya’s ability. Through prophecy, Seiya sees what others cannot and surpasses the limits of the physical body to gain information.

However, there’s one condition—Seiya’s prophetic ability works only in dreams.

Though one might argue that since we were conversing within the dream world, it was also part of a “prophetic dream,” that’s not the case.

The way Seiya uses her ability isn’t about separating her consciousness; rather, it’s about gaining another ‘perspective.’

Unlike when she’s just having a conversation with someone, her perspective itself must move to a specific point, much like astral projection.

But while sitting and conversing with me, Seiya gained ‘some information’ right at the perfect moment, as if waiting for this exact time to receive a revelation.

This was my first sense of dissonance.

“Seiya said her prophecy cannot perceive me. So then… how did she perceive the choice I made in the past?”

The advice Seiya claimed to be prophecy included information that her prophetic ability couldn’t have known.

Didn’t Seiya say that I was the sole existence beyond her prophecy?

If so, exactly what prophecy did Seiya perceive?

There’s a contradiction in her statements.

Reflect on the essence of prophetic ability.

Seiya’s power’s origin activates based on the determinism of the future. The fate of the universe is decided from the beginning to the end, and she gains the perspective to glimpse parts of the decided future.

This was the essence of Seiya’s prophecy.

Now, consider this.

The information Seiya revealed to me:

First, move forward for what I desire.

Second, there exists someone who made a choice different from mine.

And third, I’ve already made a choice.

Present, future, and past.

According to the determinism of prophecy, all destinies are decided from the ancient times, yet the information Seiya gave were all speaking of ‘possibilities.’

Thinking of the essence of prophecy, this was a strange occurrence.

This was my second sense of dissonance.

“Am I the one beyond prophecy, and that’s why Seiya knew about someone who made a choice different from mine?”

I don’t claim that I’m special among all timelines.

After all, having seen so much, wasn’t the reason I got caught up in inner demons knowing I was just one boiling bubble?

“Though it might be slightly different…”

Just the ‘choice made in the past’ she mentioned might have influenced it.

She cried so much that it must have been an extraordinary decision.

I still don’t think it was something that could only be achieved because I’m special. That’s my rational judgment.

Anyway, what I’m curious about is this:

“Exactly, was what Seiya saw back then really a prophecy?”

The opportune prophecy that came when Seiya and I were conversing in the dream world actually delivered information contrary to the nature of her prophecy.

Especially the information perfectly suited for me.

“…”

It was too convenient and too strange.

If this were an ordinary situation, I might have brushed it off with a “You got the info? Let’s celebrate!” But that wasn’t the case now.

I felt a strange sense of déjà vu, as if my extrasensory perception was warning me.

I shouldn’t forget this current feeling, this current sense of dissonance.

“…Could it be…”

It wasn’t a sudden realization, but a rather ominous hypothesis came to my mind.

Seiya had said there’s someone who made a different choice from me and is aiming for transcendence.

<Transcendence.>

As I mulled over the word, something else came to mind.

The mere act of thinking about it caused a headache.

The scenery I saw amidst the boiling bubbles.

The chaotic, intertwined destinies.

The crimson world. Someone’s scream.

Countless bubbles popping.

And… someone’s touch.

That touch was so transcendent that it could momentarily reduce Hiiro to a mere character.

This was the transcendent concept I knew.

In that case…

“…”

Is the future decided?

Or is it simply a chaotic collection of possibilities?

The latter theory suggests the existence of countless parallel universes in this universe.

If I made choice 1, then a version of me making choice 2 would exist. And perhaps, another version made an entirely different choice 3.

Seiya said someone who made a different choice from me is aiming for transcendence, and she also mentioned that I made a similar choice.

Here I felt ominousness.

If infinite parallel worlds exist where I made different choices, then…

“Perhaps, across countless universes, there exists a possibility reaching the realm of transcendence?”

“…”

It’s an ominous imagination.

But… it’s not an impossible one.

The “abnormal prophecy” I just experienced is proof.

A prophecy that illuminated possibilities instead of determined destinies.

Was that truly Seiya’s prophecy?

Could it have been a phenomenon influenced by someone else?

This was my third sense of dissonance.

2,

Despite unintentionally achieving my purpose, I realized it wasn’t time for me to return to Millennium yet.

There wasn’t any other specific goal in mind, but I had a hunch that if I returned now, I would immediately be swept into the main story’s flow, leaving no time for anything else.

With my resolve already set and having received counsel akin to prophecy from Seiya on what I desired, there was no need for retreat.

I decided to get involved in the main storyline.

I will head to the ruins with the Game Development Department and retrieve Aris. While I don’t intend to interfere too much with her education(?), I do plan to help within my capacity.

And…

This time the main storyline will also see the resumption of a long-delayed battle with a senior.

While the future may change in some aspects, I have a strong intuition about this particular event remaining unchanged.

Mikamo Neru. A match that ended rather anticlimactically the last time around. This time, it’s bound to have a more decisive conclusion.

“Then, I’d better do everything I can now.”

Uncertain about where to start but fortunately, the decision wasn’t long in coming.

Tatatatatang-!!

Another noisy day in Kiburatos. While flying through the sky on a web-like thread, I immediately changed direction at the sound that caught my ear.

Upon arriving at the scene, I witnessed—

“I-I won’t forgive anyone who does bad things in front of me…”

A pink-haired girl belonging to the Justice Realization Department was standing heroically against a group of helmeted terrorists making trouble, her body trembling with resolve.

“I-I’m part of the elite in the Justice Realization Department…”

The girl shook her head wings while declaring.

Watching young Koharu Shime’s display of overcoming her weakness while upholding justice, Hiiro felt impressed.

Facing her fears so courageously—what a steadfast belief and valor!

“You, would you like to become a hero?”

Before long, Hiiro, who had appeared behind Koharu without her noticing, found himself unintentionally uttering these words.

3,

Meanwhile, at Millennium Science School.

The Supernatural Special Task Force, where Hiiro belonged, had a special guest unexpectedly visiting.

“…Who are you here to see?”

“Nanashi Hiiro. Isn’t he part of this club?”

“Yes… that’s correct, but…”

Himari, hosting the guest, couldn’t hide her surprise.

Of course, outwardly she showed no signs, but internally, she was bewildered, her mind full of question marks.

This was because…

“Um, Teacher, what do you want with Hiiro…?”

The guest who visited the Supernatural Special Task Force was none other than the ‘Teacher’!

Why would the Teacher come now?

While trying her best to maintain composure despite the unexpected situation, Himari couldn’t help but ask.

The Teacher smiled and replied.

“Ah, I received help before and I’m here to repay the favor.”

“Help, you say?”

“Yes, at Abidos. I received a lot of assistance back then.”

“…Ah.”

Abidos was the place where, maintaining dual identities, Hiiro ultimately defeated Binah.

Since the Teacher was there as well, it’s natural that there would be some connection.

However, Himari was troubled even more because of this, for two reasons.

“Could it be that… my identity has been exposed…?”

The Teacher was renowned across the city not only for his countless good deeds and his abilities but also for being the only male in this city, along with his deep dedication to his students.

However, what truly alarmed Himari was the numerous mysterious powers the Teacher had demonstrated.

What if by one of those abilities, the Teacher had uncovered Silk’s identity and now came to confront them?

“…I don’t know.”

Though the Teacher was clearly a good person rather than an antagonist, Himari had doubts about how to proceed concerning Silk’s identity, which was better left concealed.

Despite this, she wasn’t overly worried even if the identity had been exposed. She had faith that the Teacher wouldn’t go around exposing student secrets unnecessarily.

“Could you call Hiiro for me?”

“Eh, um…”

The issue at hand was slightly different. Clenching her eyes shut, Himari replied.

“Hiiro isn’t here at the moment…”

“Is he attending some classes?”

“No… um…”

“??”

“…He’s not in Millennium. He’s gone to meet a friend.”

“…Ah?”

The Teacher’s voice betrayed a moment of bewilderment. It seemed he had instinctively sensed that something was wrong.

Himari nervously chuckled, beads of cold sweat rolling down her face.

“Hiiro… please come back soon!!”

I might die of tension before this is over…”
