Chapter 91: Inverting the Transformation
The overcast sky was drizzling, the air filled with damp moisture, and the闷热 was dissipated by the raindrops.
Arriving at the accident site of the cinema, the police had already set up cordon lines to maintain order; several bystanders under umbrellas were watching unclearly.
Lin Qi held his umbrella and moved forward, ignoring the onlookers as he pushed through and entered the scene beyond the cordon line with Yukinoshita Yukino and Itadori Yuuji following behind.
A young officer intended to stop them but froze after receiving a casual glance from Lin Qi.
Luckily, an older officer pulled him back and whispered, “Don’t worry about them; they handle cases that exceed human capabilities.”
“But…” the young officer started.
The older officer sternly interrupted, “This is an order.”
He then sighed, “To last in this job, you need to recognize what we can handle. This case is out of our league.”
Having seen the victims’ gruesome scene in the cinema, even an experienced officer was nauseated.
Ignoring their whispers, Lin Qi, Yukinoshita, and Itadori entered the cinema.
The movie hall was dark, revealing the untouched corpses.
“How horrific…,” Itadori Yuuji’s pupils shrank as he looked at the bodies on the seats.
Recalling Okazaki Masa’s death during his time in juvenile detention, the current scene made him more unsettled.
Yukinoshita also seemed repulsed.
“Are these from the same person?” she asked, fighting nausea.
“Yes, the residue of curse energy is identical.”
Lin Qi assessed at a glance, concluding that the souls had been twisted toward curse spirits.
“There’s some by the employee entrance,” Yukinoshita found traces of curse energy leading there.
“Huh? What are you talking about? Curse energy residue?” Itadori looked confused, not understanding their conversation.
“Don’t see them?” Lin Qi was surprised.
“Weren’t you taught by that guy?”
“Well, given him, yeah,” Itadori scratched his head awkwardly.
“It seems he doesn’t know how to teach!”
Lin Qi laughed loudly, recalling the insult from Satoru Gojo.
“Itadori, if you observe closely, you’ll spot the residues,” seeing Lin Qi mockingly focused on Gojo, Yukinoshita stepped in to explain.
“They’re subtle—easily overlooked by the subconscious mind unless you look carefully,” she said calmly.
“Oh, so it is. Let me try.”
Itadori nodded, squinting and staring intently at the floor.
Moments later, faint traces appeared before him, extending towards the employees’ side.
“Eureka! I see it!” he exclaimed excitedly.
“This is what you would expect. Don’t get too excited over such a small thing,” Yukinoshita responded nonchalantly.
“Looks like Yukinoshita is familiar with such scenes now,” Itadori remarked, slightly cooling down, “By the way, I haven’t seen you at Jujutsu High, why’s that?”
“I work together with Lin Qi and Jujutsu High, so naturally, we wouldn’t meet.”
Yukinoshita elaborated, “I am a second-year student at Chiba Sōbu High, while Lin Qi… well, he’s kind of a wanderer, not affiliated.”
“So, you are a second-year student, making you a senior? What level sorcerer are you?”
“Based on what Lin Qi told us, probably grade two.”
“Wow, just like Fushimi!”
Itadori marveled.
“It’s not about me… Enough talk, what do we do now?”
Yukinoshita’s eyes dimmed slightly. Had her skills been strong, she wouldn’t have been helpless against Ryomen Sukuna.
“This false trail of residues is pretty obvious.”
Lin Qi’s voice showed disdain, but he continued, “Follow them and see what they want.”
“Alright! Ready to go all in!” Itadori punched his palm enthusiastically.
“Stay calm and don’t lose your composure,” Yukinoshita warned.
“Understood!”
They followed the remnants of curse energy upwards onto the roof, where Yukinoshita noticed two weak curse energy sources.
“Lin Qi, two weak signals detected. Could be foes…”
The black-haired girl looked puzzled. Turning back, Itadori also noticed Lin Qi was missing.
“Where is Mr. Lin? Wasn’t he right here?”
“Forget it, getting used to this… Let’s deal with this first,” Yukinoshita sighed, facing their adversaries on the rooftop.
“Alright!”
“And I’ve got this one!”
Itadori dropped his umbrella and rushed towards a curse spirit, resembling a pitcher-plant, hiding beside a water tank.
Yukinoshita approached another crawling on the dark corner, reminiscent of a gecko.
As they prepared to attack, Lin Qi’s voice echoed from above: “Just a reminder, both of these weak spirits are actually humans.”
They paused, looking up at Lin Qi who stood near the doorway, holding a bucket of popcorn.
“What do you mean ‘human’?”
Itadori’s eyes widened as he watched the curse spirit rushing towards him.
The curse spirit is… human!
