Chapter 106: Job Change Mission
“Are you kidding me? They think Earth’s technology is just like toys? I’m missing my computer and phone like crazy over here! Besides, those guys only call themselves the Ultimate Life Form; I don’t believe they won’t surrender if we drop a nuke on them!”
Upon hearing that those guys were mocking Earth’s technology, Aierjisi just couldn’t hold back anymore. How dare they scoff at the tech from Earth? Those guys must be really brave.
“Well, you can’t say that. You have to recognize their power too. From their perspective, Earth’s technology is probably understandable as mere toys. So, don’t get too worked up.”
Ailin urged Aierjisi not to let this irritate her too much. Although those Adrian People’s view of Earth was frustrating, their strength was not to be underestimated.
“So what? None of us can output firepower anywhere near a nuclear bomb, right? I refuse to believe they could survive in the face of one.”
When it came down to firepower, Aierjisi lacked confidence in reaching nuclear bomb levels. Weirafiya and Ailin probably felt the same way.
“If it was just those few guys, we wouldn’t need to be this worried; the problem lies with that ‘God’.”
Ailin was most concerned about the entity they referred to as God. Being labeled as such meant that its power surely exceeded their imagination—maybe Earth technology really did look like toys in front of ‘God’.
“No problem! As long as we don’t get caught by them, we’ll be fine. Plus, the three of us are here, right? All we need is to hold our ground and withstand their attacks!”
After all, that God needed six offerings to appear, so as long as they could maintain their defenses, they should be okay. Weirafiya thought so… unfortunately.
“I wish that were possible,” Ailin replied with a wry smile. If she could, she would love to sturdy their defenses and engage in a war of attrition against those darn Adrian People. But a war of attrition required both sides to have comparable strength.
“You stole their stuff during the rescue mission; they’re likely to show their true abilities now. I think our situation is going to get a lot tougher from here on out.”
Usually, the battle power of this world had never been regarded highly by those Adrian People, who always focused on capturing their needed offerings.
However, during this rescue operation, Gaia and the others broke into their base, rescued Ailin and Carl, and left the place in chaos. They probably wouldn’t approach the upcoming fight with a playful attitude anymore.
“So what if they do? Are we afraid of them? Don’t kid around! We’re players who have beaten the game—pulling off low-level counterattacks and reverse counters is pretty much our specialty!”
Weirafiya remained undeterred, believing that with the three of them working together, they could definitely take on those guys.
“Nope. With our current strength, we’re still no match for them. If we want to fight them, we need to boost our power.”
Ailin shook her head; after the previous battle with Diablo, she clearly understood the gap between their strengths. They had to strengthen themselves if they wanted to survive.
“Easy for you to say! This isn’t some game world; how are we supposed to power up?”
Aierjisi raised the key question. She knew their current strength wasn’t enough to confront them, but how could they increase their power? It wasn’t something you could easily gain like experience points in a game by completing missions. Powering up wasn’t that simple.
“Well, I was thinking about that too. Do you all remember the Job Change Mission from the game?”
“Job Change Mission? How could anyone forget that? That mission was ridiculously tough, with AI attacks that made no sense! I bet whoever designed that AI didn’t have a mom watching over them!”
Just mentioning the Job Change Mission sparked Aierjisi’s enthusiasm. Back in the game, that mission was horrendously challenging, progressing through various phases of job changes as the player leveled up. The first three stages were manageable, but the final stages were complete nonsense; the AI-controlled characters attacked faster than the players and had troublesome boss mechanics. Aierjisi had failed multiple times on the final job change mission.
“But how is that Job Change Mission related to our power-up?”
Weirafiya was perplexed; the Job Change Mission seemed limited to gaming, so why bring it up?
“I was thinking, if that game was made based on this world, maybe the Job Change Mission and our power-up are linked.”
Of course, this was just Ailin’s guess with no concrete evidence that the Job Change Mission existed in this world as well.
“What’s the point? That’s not much of a revelation, is it?”
“No… I think it might be worth a shot.”
Unlike Weirafiya, Aierjisi felt this method could be tested. After all, the game was created by angels from the celestial realm to choose heroes to save the world, and many items in the game had corresponding analogues in this world. So… the Job Change Mission might actually exist.
“I plan to return to the Ice Dragon Clan’s territory tomorrow to try and trigger the Job Change Mission. If I can do it, then you two should be able to as well.”
To accept the Job Change Mission and strengthen themselves, they had to return to their character’s initial birthplaces. For Ailin, that meant the Sacred Ruins of the Ice Dragon Clan, the closest location.
“Well then, good luck! I’m looking forward to your good news!”
Weirafiya gave Ailin a thumbs up, expressing her anticipation.
“Yeah… the birthplace, huh? The Moon God Palace. I wonder what’s left there now.”
Aierjisi muttered to herself about her birthplace in the game. The Moon God Palace had likely turned into a wreck since the Blood Clan vanished—who knew what had happened over 300 years? If it had collapsed, she wondered if she could still accept the Job Change Mission…
