Chapter 1066 – The Legendary Iron-Eating Beast Legion (8)
“What’s going on?”
“Quick, calm them down—”
The Gaoyue Tribe was skilled in beast taming, and the ferocious beasts behaved like kittens in their presence, rarely going out of control.
Beast tamers followed orders, trying to soothe the agitated beasts with commands, but to no avail.
Not only did their efforts fail, but the beasts became even more frenzied, their eyes flashing with bloodlust.
“Useless—each and every one of you is useless!” The leader of the Gaoyue Tribe, sitting on the back of an elephant, clawed at the ornate canopy with his hands, his rugged face pale and devoid of the previous arrogance he had. He shouted angrily, “Can’t you control them—”
With the beasts in such a frenzy, the usual commands had no effect, and the tamers had no choice but to resort to whips as a deterrent.
However, after a few lashes, it only ignited the beasts’ fury.
A striking white-patched tiger roared and lunged at the tamer mounted on its back.
The tamer, caught off guard by the sudden aggression from what was supposed to be a docile pet, wore an expression of disbelief just before hitting the ground.
Before he could struggle, the tiger had sunk its teeth deep into his neck, heavy breaths crashing against his skin as its razor-like fangs pierced through his delicate flesh. Just before his consciousness slipped away, he heard the sound of his neck snapping like a twig.
The scent of blood filled the air, fully awakening the beasts’ primal instincts.
As the tamer was killed by the tiger, the remaining beasts pounced on the other tamers.
The once orderly army of beasts was thrown into chaos, screams erupting from the tamers’ throats; before they could call for help, their previously tame beasts turned against them, ripping, gnawing, or dismembering the tamers with their claws.
The Audience was dumbfounded, watching as the screen’s comments ceased to update—
These familiar, clumsy, and cute giant pandas were now showcasing agility that belied their bulk.
The paws that usually hugged bamboo were now weapons ready to take down tamers.
What seemed like a harmless pat directly caved in a tamer’s skull.
The Audience was reminded that giant pandas had powerful molars, deemed the strongest among carnivorous mammals, but their memory was stuck on bamboo munching. Now witnessing it firsthand, they could see that these pandas could easily crush human femurs in mere moments—
On the battlefield, thousands of black-and-white balls surrounded the Gaoyue Tribe from all directions, their supposed adorable round faces now adorned with terrifying fierceness. The Audience watched in silence as the Gaoyue Tribe, surrounded by pandas and other ferocious beasts, descended into panic.
The beasts were the Gaoyue Tribe’s trump card; controlling them in battle was their specialty, but their own combat strength was lacking.
They had been too confident, never considering that the beasts might break free from their control and turn against them.
“Don’t, don’t come any closer—”
As the beasts rioted, the Gaoyue Tribe’s beast tamers were paralyzed with fear. The once-tamed beasts now became their worst nightmares. With great terror, their eyes widened, filled with tears, bloodshot and trembling—
The tamers attempted to fend off the beasts with whips and weapons, but it was in vain.
Even if they managed to drive off a couple, countless more starving beasts were right behind, their yawning maws wide open as they lunged at them.
What looked like cute Iron-Eating Beasts—giant pandas—were demonstrating to everyone what “don’t judge a bear by its cuteness” truly meant!
They ran and chased after the tamers, their chubby bodies jiggling delightfully as they moved.
Yet in that moment, no one was in the mood to appreciate such beauty.
Because once one of those pandas tackled you, its weight felt like an avalanche, and the other black-and-white balls would rush in to finish the job.
Though the Gaoyue Tribe was the enemy, witnessing their dismemberment at the hands of these beasts caused mixed feelings in everyone’s hearts.
As the stampede of beasts continued, the canopy on the back of the elephant was tossed aside, causing the leader and elders of the Gaoyue Tribe to crash to the ground. Before they could recover, the enraged beasts pounced upon them with claws and teeth.
In a matter of breaths, all that remained were battered, bloody corpses, their eyes wide open in shock before death. As their breaths stopped, their fierce will to survive flickered out, leaving behind only sheer terror etched on their faces.
Dominating it all was Jiang Pengji, nonchalantly playing a jade flute.
She didn’t even know how to play; despite her posture looking elegant as if she was levitating into the heavens, she was just blowing aimlessly.
Feng Jin and the others, unaware of the reality, thought she was actually using the flute to control the beasts.
Out of respect, they endured the jarring sounds of her playing.
Wei Ci, who had an inkling of the truth, could only chuckle helplessly; he saw through it but didn’t expose her, continuing to feign ignorance alongside the others.
“This battle—will probably be the easiest and most unforgettable of my life—” Meng Hunyun murmured softly, his eyes fixed on the enemy, fearful of any surprises.
As it turned out, his worries were unfounded.
The beasts were too busy wreaking havoc on the Gaoyue Tribe, using brute force to grind them into the dirt, not paying any attention to the rest of them.
“If all battles were this easy, how wonderful would that be?” Feng Zhen sighed.
Our side, with tens of thousands of soldiers in formation, waving flags and beating drums, brimming with confidence, wished to string the Gaoyue Tribe together like shish kebabs—yet from start to finish, they hadn’t managed to kill a single enemy, nor had they even let an arrow fly!
Instead, they watched their Lord/Leader play the flute, enduring the ear-piercing melody as the Gaoyue Tribe received their comeuppance.
No one would believe it if they told them!
If battles could be this easy, Feng Zhen would happily listen to that awful flute music for a lifetime.
Just as Feng Zhen finished his thought, the sharp, grating flute sound abruptly ceased—
As the music vanished, Jiang Pengji’s brow furrowed, her formerly rosy cheeks suddenly pale, and cold sweat began to bead on her forehead.
“Lord/Leader—”
Wei Ci, who was nearby, quickly moved to support Jiang Pengji, whose body swayed slightly.
Her right hand gripped the jade flute tightly, while her left finger pressed against her sweating brow, her dark eyes flashing with a fierce killing intent.
“I’m fine—” Jiang Pengji took a deep breath, a faint smile returning to her lips, her pale cheeks regaining a hint of color as she reassured Wei Ci, “I got a bit too carried away earlier and almost forgot my limits. Don’t worry, I’m perfectly fine, just need a moment’s rest.”
A flicker of understanding passed through Wei Ci’s gaze.
The Gaoyue Tribe’s control over the beasts was no small feat and likely consumed vast energy, yet their Lord/Leader had accomplished this effortlessly, which undoubtedly took a toll on her.
“Sire, please take care of yourself. If you handle everything, it only shows that your subordinates are incapable.”
Feng Jin and the others shared similar thoughts.
Little did they know that Jiang Pengji had stopped, not from exhaustion, but because an adversary system was attempting to break free through a combined attack.
With Wei Ci’s comment, she had been handed a perfect excuse.
