“Sally, you can’t go too far.”
“But Father, Elia is already over there!”
“Lilian is with her, right?”
The girl with the purple hair puffed out her cheeks. In ten more years, there would be plenty of boys ready to faint from that one move, but unfortunately, Sally was still only seven. Her little tantrum as she pointed at Elia outside was somewhat cute, but her mother Chloe was busy, so it couldn’t be helped.
“Hmm, maybe I’ll just take a quick stroll.”
“…Your Excellency.”
“I’ll be back in no time.”
With that, I picked up Elia, leaving the work to Leah, who was all settled into the human world. Elia giggled and snuggled into my arms. I gently stroked Elia, who had her hands on my shoulders, as I quietly stepped outside.
The mansion was bustling with activity. Was it because Chase, the eldest son of Yulia, was approaching his seventh birthday? I pondered this as I stepped out.
“By the way, where’s Brother Chase?”
“I heard he was with Yulia… do you want to go see him?”
“Yes!”
As Sally cheerfully nodded, I patted her head and headed toward Yulia’s Room. It was quite a distance from the office, so I had to walk a bit. Passing through the busy maids, I arrived at Yulia’s door, where voices could be heard inside.
“Come in.”
“…Eerie.”
As I entered, I saw Yulia laying on her bed with Chase and his twin siblings, Shuri. Nestled in her arms was Deyan, who had just turned two. She seemed a bit uncomfortable, shifting positions due to her slightly swollen belly. I took Deyan into my arms, and he protested a bit. After a few gentle touches to his cheeks, he quieted down.
“How’s Deyan?”
“He must be cozy being held by Dad. Our little fairy seems healthy too. Hello, Sally.”
“Hello! Yulia Mom!”
“Chase and Shuri are sleeping now, so can you keep it down a little?”
Seeing Sally greet her cheerfully, Yulia smiled and put her finger to her lips. Sally immediately gasped and covered her mouth with both hands. Yulia let out a small laugh and gently patted Sally’s head.
“…Is Chloe out again?”
“Yep.”
“She manages to do her outside activities even in that condition… I can barely do anything with just a little walking.”
While she had help from maids, the most important caregiver was absent. Yulia had insisted on handling the bulk of the childcare herself, wanting to care for her three kids. Though she had asked a few times since Deyan’s birth, she always declined additional help, wanting to raise her children herself. With a new life growing inside her, it must be even harder. I wished I could help more often, but I too was busier than Chloe, so finding time was not easy.
“Brother Chase’s birthday is coming up soon, right?”
Sally whispered this to Yulia as she bounced over, and Yulia nodded. Sally then resolutely stated, “
“…Now let’s not disturb Yulia Mom anymore. Let’s go, Dad.”
“Huh? Uh, okay. Yulia, I’ll come again later.”
“Sure.”
As I let the maids in, Yulia seemed to finally be able to relax a bit. Now that the kids were settled down, she deserved a break. With that, Sally’s next destination was Lilian. A massive shadow loomed over Lilian, who was sunbathing with the kids in the garden.
“Sally?”
“Hi, Lilian Mom.”
“Yep. Hi.”
“Oh, Sally sister!”
“Sally unnie!”
“Sally! Sally!”
Starting with Jerick, the fifth child and second son of the Allen family, followed by Elia, the second child and daughter, and the newly three-year-old Senia, all eagerly greeted Sally. Sally glanced at Jerick’s black hair with a hint of envy and shot her hand up.
“Nice to meet you all!”
“Wooow!”
The three siblings stormed in and tackled Sally into the grass, welcoming her with open arms. As I watched the scene quietly, Lilian laid back down on the grass. Her belly was definitely round, marking her as a soon-to-be mother.
“…Aren’t you going to stop them?”
“You know they can’t be stopped.”
“True.”
Well, they’re healthy rambunctious kids, so they could let loose for a bit before I rein them in. After a while, a disheveled Sally came over to me.
“Dad….”
“Did you have fun?”
“It was tough.”
At just seven years old, the exhaustion she showed was more than expected, and I nodded unconsciously. As I lifted her into my arms, Sally melted into me. She seemed utterly worn out, refusing even to show her face.
“Shall we head in and rest?”
“Uh-huh….”
With her tired voice, I gently stroked the back of Sally’s head as we made our way to Chloe’s room. Though she wasn’t there at the moment, her daughters lay neatly asleep in the bed. As I entered, Sally’s younger sister Fenia smiled brightly at me.
“Oh, Dad.”
“What’s up? Did you wake up?”
“I woke up when you opened the door. Epnin, come on.”
“Ugh… oh, Dad! You’re here with Sally unnie!”
“You didn’t need to wake Epnin.”
The just-five-year-old Epnin beamed at both me and Sally, glancing back and forth. As I gently patted both their heads, a voice came from behind.
“Hey, when did you arrive?”
“Just now. Did everything go well?”
“Yeah. Lord Harvest brought up the terms for discussion.”
“Good. Now take a break. If the pregnant lady runs around too much, I’ll get the blame.”
“It’s not even noticeable yet, what are you talking about?”
With that, Chloe, with a bit of help from the maids, started taking off her clothes and perched on the bed. Seeing her, I quietly smiled.
“…But isn’t Leah looking for you? Can you really roam around like this?”
“How long has it been since I saw her face that you think I’d chase her away already?”
“Well, you are busy.”
Pfft, this workaholic wife of mine. I grumbled a bit as I patted the heads of the three kids and stepped outside. It’s tough working, but knowing it’s for the kids gives me a boost of energy.
After reincarnating in this world, my original goal had been to save up money and live comfortably in a quiet countryside. I had strayed far from that target now. It was neither the countryside nor alone. Not peaceful and not quiet. But I was sure I was happier now than when I achieved that goal.
Because I could live with my loved ones.
The Young Lady disappeared.
