Chapter 108

1.

Thus, we found ourselves heading to the ruins.

What’s the “thus” about?

I don’t know. It just ended up like this.

It was because of the twins from the Game Development Department, who firmly believed that the G.Bible would save their club.

The renowned G.Bible, rumored to contain the secrets of creating the ultimate game.

The twins, having heard this rumor at some point, began to exhibit a mindset similar to treasure hunters the moment they secured our cooperation.

The optimistic view that obtaining the treasure would resolve their club’s crisis, combined with their attitude of never changing their decision once they’ve made it after some thought.

In short, they were simply unable to see reality.

Ultimately, the trip to the ruins became a fait accompli.

The teacher and I had no choice but to go along with it.

Our leader, Yuzu, still seemed unfamiliar with the teacher and hadn’t emerged from the cabinet, so the journey to the ruins ended up consisting of four people.

The teacher, Midori, Momo, and me.

With Momo leading the way, having learned the path to the ruins from Veritas, we took the shortest route from Millennium Academy and quickly arrived at the ruins.

Rather recklessly, and far too hastily.

At the entrance of the ruins, we arrived with a sense of urgency and discovered the reality of the ruins, which we’d only encountered through rumors and photographs.

“…There’s supposed to be a G.Bible here?”

“Same here. I can’t believe it either.”

“It’s true! The last signal was definitely in the ruins!”

“Hmm…”

Midori’s question was indeed valid.

If I hadn’t had knowledge of the original story, I would undoubtedly have shared the same doubts.

I hid myself behind some cover, cautiously raising my head to observe the ruins.

Surrounding me was a desolate city.

The remnants of civilization. The crumbling buildings, concrete debris, and…

Closh closh closh-

Unmanned robots patrolling above it all.

Where human organic life had waned, only mechanical constructs made of scrap metal remained to “guard” this place.

Pip-pip-pib-

Keer-eeng-

Continuing their ceaseless patrols, conversing in signals only they could understand.

It was eerie, watching them exchange signals like soldiers calling out slogans to communicate their situations.

Unable to speak human language but behaving like humans.

It was as if they regarded this land as their exclusive territory.

Every one of their actions carried an unmistakable ‘will’.

‘Unusual. What on earth are these constructs?’

What exactly were they guarding?

And where had these things come from?

Moreover, why would the G.Bible be in a place like this?

When I asked Momo…

“I don’t know!”

“Brilliant, mate.”

Unfortunately, Momo didn’t have the answers to these questions.

Of course, I didn’t expect her to.

A place full of mysteries, the ruins.

Upon reflection, the three renowned academies of “Blue Archive” each had their secretive locations.

Milennium’s nearby ‘ruins’.

Trinity’s ‘catacombs’.

Gehenna’s Hinnom Volcano ‘Abyss’.

Since the proper bait hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s a place I, despite knowing the original story, must still tread carefully.

Originally, “the ruins” were a place where entry was personally restricted by the current missing president of the Student Council, described as a mysterious area near Millennium.

Most people don’t know the location, how to access it, or why the ruins even exist…

But someone I know is not part of that majority.

Himari described the ruins as “a kind of urban sewer where things that have disappeared and been forgotten from Kiburatos gather.”

“What do you think she means by that?”

“Mmm…”

The teacher seemed lost in thought for a moment before shaking their head, indicating they didn’t know either.

Since I didn’t expect much from Midori anyway, and even less from Momo, I didn’t ask any more questions.

More importantly, the direction we should take was what mattered.

“So, where are we heading? Have you thought about it?”

“Hehe. Of course! Look at this!”

In response to my question, Momo proudly held up the electronic terminal in her hand and shouted loudly.

“Here, if we just follow the coordinates given by Veritas, we can retrieve the G.Bible—”

Dump-

I interrupted Momo’s statement by covering her mouth, causing her to look at me in confusion.

However, she wasn’t entirely dense. Looking at the teacher and Midori, whose expressions had visibly stiffened, she quickly understood the situation and began to tremble slightly.

‘Not possible… right?’

‘Yeah. That’s exactly what you’re thinking.’

‘Caught? Did we get caught right now?’

‘I don’t know. Either way, stay quiet and wait.’

I communicated with Momo through eye contact while observing the movements from behind her shoulder.

The unmanned robots were extremely sensitive to any noise or slight movements around them, reacting hostilely.

Whenever small animals darted around, making noise, the robots would open fire, killing the animals.

If we had acted openly, we would’ve had to face them.

That’s why I cut Momo off earlier.

“For now, let’s just follow the coordinates. Momo lead the way, then Midori, the teacher will be third, and I’ll bring up the rear.”

“…Understood.”

“In case of combat, you two ensure the teacher’s safety and flee. I’ll neutralize the enemies and catch up.”

Momo and Midori seemed to have a lot to say but ultimately followed my instructions without further questioning.

And thus, we began our real journey across the ruins.

The goal was the coordinates where the G.Bible was located.

2.

Slurp-slurp

After realizing that the robots were sensitive to both movement and sound, we moved as quietly and slowly as possible, led by Momo.

About five minutes into our movement.

“Wait…wait…”

“What happened, sis?”

“There…look ahead…”

I poked my head out to check the front.

That’s when I understood why Momo had stopped.

Two robots were patrolling right in front of us.

And they were exactly on the path we needed to take.

How should we proceed? The decision was quick.

“When I give the signal, make a run for it. I’ll handle it.”

“What about you, Hiiro?”

In response to the teacher’s question, I shrugged.

“It’s been a while since I’ve practiced with my shield. I’ll follow up after that.”

“Eh…?”

“Seriously, why practice shielding here?”

“Told you before, Hiiro is not normal.”

With a warning to keep quiet, I smacked the twins on their heads with the edge of my hand, silencing them.

Judging by how they grasped their heads and suppressed screams, they realized the blows, though painful, weren’t too damaging.

I chuckled awkwardly and stepped forward.

“Go ahead. I’ll be right behind you.”

I didn’t make it sound like I was making any grand sacrifice.

It wasn’t really a situation that felt threatening.

“Now!”

After signaling my teammates, I swung my right arm and launched my shield directly at the robots.

Whizzz-AHH!! Boom!!

The shield, cutting through the air, struck one robot directly, bounced off and incapacitated the second robot almost instantaneously.

With a click of the button in my hand, the shield returned to me in an instant.

An almost instant conclusion.

As I ran to the side, watching my teammates break through towards a factory marked on the coordinates, I raised my leg and delivered a strong stomp.

BOOOOOOM—!!

Apparently, for the rest of the group to cross the ruins smoothly, I had to take on the heavier burden.

What did I mean by that?

Here’s what:

Bip-bip! Bip!

Thud—thud—thud—thud

The sound of my stomp reverberated throughout the ruins, and robots from all directions began quickly signaling each other and rushing to my location.

The overwhelming number of robots didn’t forget their roles; the moment they spotted me, they began firing bullets.

Tatatatatatatanga—!!

A deluge of bullets immediately followed.

As I quickly sheltered behind my shield, I expanded my perception as widely as possible to gauge the number of enemies and their positions, as well as to maintain an awareness of my teammates’ locations.

Tens, possibly hundreds of robots.

Just at this spot, there were that many robots, and more were surely gathering.

Could I block them all with just my shield?

Maybe?

“But I don’t have time to wait.”

What should I do then?

Simple.

“If they’ve gone far enough…”

If “just shield” isn’t enough, then use something else.

Like… grenades, for instance?

Bam-kaboom!

With immense energy, I pushed off the ground and leaped high into the sky.

The robots, looking up at me, hesitated for a moment before starting to shoot again.

I deflected all the bullets with my shield while retrieving something from my pocket.

“From the heavens shall justice rain down upon you, you bastards!!”

A special grenade created by the Engineering Department.

Not sparing any of these items designed for battling ‘monsters’, I threw them at the robots. Sensing the danger, the robots tried to move, but…

“It’s too late.”

I smirked, watching their futile efforts.

And then,

REEEEEEEEE——!!!

An immense explosion accompanied by a bright flash erupted.

I set my shield against the ground to shield against the impact.

Fortunately, the shockwave from the grenades didn’t reach where the twins and teacher were, though the sudden explosion likely startled them enough to make them stop and look back at me.

From the sky, I waved at them before descending.

When my figure was obscured by the dust raised from the explosion, my teammates, though momentarily startled, were ignored.

They would realize I’m fine soon enough.

“Alright, let’s take this fight seriously.”

Today, I will wage war against these robots.

Because it’s one of the reasons I’m here at the ruins.

“Come on!”

And so, I hurled my shield towards the robots approaching from afar and gave a loud shout.

This is where the real fight begins.

3.

“Was that Hiiro earlier?”

“That explosion was also done by Hiiro?”

“…”

Neither Momo, Midori, nor the teacher could easily continue speaking after what they just witnessed.

The sensation wasn’t worry or anxiety about her safety—rather, it bordered on bafflement.

“Seriously, crazy girl… what was that…?”

“Well, she told us to be quiet, but look at how she’s acting…”

“…Just can’t deal with her sometimes, can we? Really.”

Momo and Midori both showed exasperation at Hiiro’s extraordinary behavior.

Meanwhile, the teacher, who knows Hiiro’s true identity, felt a mixture of anxiety and disorientation due to her risky actions, but also admiration for her incomprehensible combat prowess.

However, there’s a common reaction they all shared:

“Why are we not worried?”

“Well, she’s sort of… Little Double-0.”

“If it’s Hiiro, she’ll be fine. Let’s trust and move forward.”

Generally, it was a shared trust and reassurance in Hiiro.

Despite differing evaluations, each had realized the purpose behind her actions, so the steps they had momentarily halted soon resumed.

Gradually, they were drawing nearer to their target, the ‘G.Bible’.

“Yikes! There are robots here, too!”

“Just how widely have they spread out that they’re here as well?!”

“Teacher, please take command…!”

“Alright! Leave it to me! Everyone, get ready for battle!”

Though the journey wasn’t at all smooth, any lingering worry had long disappeared from their hearts.

Because, safeguarding their backs, was a girl who physically blocked greater trials herself.
