Chapter 108: The Companion
In the theater’s venue, Dorothy sat in her seat, deep in thought about how to resolve the current problem. To her, the situation was somewhat difficult. The best method at the moment was to manipulate the zombie puppet still outside in the carriage, getting it to cause a commotion to forcefully stop the Charity event, thus interrupting Bill’s search for her. However, this approach would create too much noise and might reveal more complications, attracting unwanted attention from others, which Dorothy was not fond of.
Though she was reluctant, Dorothy knew that if there were no other alternatives, she would have to proceed as such. Just then, she heard a female voice echoing in her mind.
“Lord! Please save me; I only want to quietly watch a few performances!”
Startled by the sudden voice, Dorothy quickly checked its source, asking the system.
“System, where did that voice just come from?”
“It originates from a prayer.”
The system’s usual taciturn response surprised Dorothy slightly.
“A prayer? A believer’s prayer? Wait… when did I have a believer? No… the tone of that prayer belongs to the Radiant Church believer from before, and it sounds like a nun. How could I receive her prayer? Isn’t she referring to the ‘Lord’ as the three Saints of the Radiant Church?”
“The term ‘Lord’ in the prayer has subconsciously come to refer to us since the individual is too close, allowing us to receive the prayer.”
Listening to the system’s response, Dorothy paused, her brow furrowed as she began to contemplate.
“This… so the nun’s subconscious reference to ‘Lord’ is actually me? And not the three Saints? Is it because I saved her, providing her with real grace? That’s interesting…”
“However… more interesting is that she’s nearby and wants to quietly watch the performance. Is she attending the gala?!”
While thinking this over, Dorothy raised her head and glanced around. Soon enough, she spotted an upper-level cabin filled with clerics and a few nuns.
“Is that the local Radiant Church cabin? If she’s here at the venue, she must be in there…”
With thoughts blossoming in her mind, Dorothy immediately turned back to the system.
“Hey, system, can I also convey information to that prayer in the form of an internal voice like just now?”
“Yes, a communication channel has been established. Normally silent, it can be activated for any form of information exchange with the linked party without distance limitations.”
“Wow, once this communication channel is established, I can use it permanently! It can even transmit prayers; this is so much easier than writing things down!”
Dorothy thought to herself. Being able to directly convey internal prayers through the communication channel would indeed be much quicker, and constantly writing messages felt unsafe. Direct communication was definitely better.
Now, Dorothy simply needed to activate the communication channel to send a message to the believer, perhaps relying on her to solve her current problems.
Dorothy planned to send a “divine revelation” in the name of Akasha, stating that there were cultists hiding the “Cup” within the charity event, prompting her to mobilize the Radiant Church’s power to terminate the charity and seal off the venue for a search. Since the believer was sent by the church to attend, her status should not be too low; she should at least have some influence.
Just as Dorothy was about to proceed, she suddenly stopped, thinking of a serious issue.
“No… I cannot inform her in this manner. What if the church asks her about the source of the information later?”
Dorothy mused, realizing that for the Radiant Church, her role as Akasha was that of an Other God. If she truly issued a divine revelation to that believer, even if it allowed her to mobilize the church’s power to stop the charity and capture some Holy Communion members, there would be no way for her to explain the source of the information when questioned by church representatives.
Claiming to have investigated, Dorothy knew she wouldn’t be able to fabricate a coherent backstory on the spot; she lacked the chain of deductions and evidence. If she claimed it was an Other God’s revelation, that would raise significant concerns. If she said it was a divine revelation from the three Saints, who knows if the church’s higher-ups have methods to validate the authenticity of divine messages?
If Dorothy directly issued a divine revelation, even if it solved her immediate issue, it could ultimately harm the believer, which was something Dorothy wished to avoid.
“Sigh… is there really no better way?”
Dorothy pondered again, and after a while, she had a new idea.
“Perhaps… I could assume a different identity…”
As she contemplated this, Dorothy glanced at the progress of the theater staff collecting invitations. Due to having to continually apologize to guests, their progress was slow, and they were still some distance away, giving Dorothy a bit of time.
After confirming their situation, Dorothy stood up from her seat, quickly left the venue, and headed to an empty corridor on the second floor, where she found a restroom.
Upon entering the restroom and confirming it was also empty, Dorothy closed her eyes and began to pray internally.
“In this boundless world, great Akasha… I pray to you. I am currently at the charity event in the city of Igewent, Prit Kingdom on the old continent, and have preliminary results in my investigation of the wolf cubs, but I am now in a predicament. However, I feel that I have a companion by my side, and I need her help. I will wait for her in the restroom at the left corridor on the second floor, outside the venue.”
Then, Dorothy sent her prayer through the communication channel to that believer.
…
In the cabin of the Radiant Church, Vania, who was struggling to manage troublesome social interactions, suddenly froze, realizing she had an unfamiliar female voice’s prayer echoing in her mind.
“In this boundless world, great Akasha… This… is this referring to that deity Akasha? Do they have other believers within this venue? And they are encountering difficulties while sensing me, seeking my help?”
Vania stood in place, momentarily dazed. Noticing her expression, a nearby cleric curiously asked.
“Nun Vania, is something wrong?”
“Ah… ahaha, sorry, I suddenly feel the need to go to the restroom. Please continue your conversation; I’ll be back shortly.”
Regaining her composure, Vania smiled as she spoke, while the cleric continued.
“Oh, I was wondering what was wrong. Go ahead, but remember to return soon; don’t miss out on the exciting performances.”
“With you all, I can’t enjoy a single performance in peace…”
Vania internally grumbled but continued to smile and replied.
“Of course, I’ll be back soon.”
Afterward, Vania opened the door and left the cabin, exiting the venue. She quickly made her way to the second floor, arriving at the empty left corridor where she opened the door and stepped inside.
Inside, Vania saw a beautiful girl wearing a gray-black dress and floral hat, with long white hair, looking to be a year or two younger than herself. The girl smiled at Vania, who came rushing in, seemingly out of breath.
“Hello, fellow seeker of truth, ‘companion.'”
