011 Dekan’s Crew
After returning to the classroom, everyone was still excitedly discussing the topics of the entrance ceremony.
Compared to the music and dancing, what really energized them was the play that ran through the regular entrance ceremony.
The play was adapted from the graduating seniors’ adventure last year, tackling a sixth-rank Shadow World main storyline.
The story was full of twists and turns, and finally, through the collaboration of several adventurers, it culminated in a touching and tear-jerking conclusion.
This play clearly ignited the freshmen’s drive to become stronger.
They were also looking forward to the day when they would adventure into the higher-rank Shadow Worlds themselves.
The classroom became much noisier than when they first gathered in the morning.
Everyone seemed to have let their guard down and started to get acquainted with those they found likable.
Some even began initiating conversations with Dekan and Cornelia.
They could understand what Dekan said but not Cornelia.
It seemed that every time Dekan had to translate for her.
Eventually, everyone confirmed that both of them were much more approachable than they had imagined.
If we overlook the cards Dekan used, he is entirely a normal teenager.
Cornelia, though she appeared somewhat aloof, was not arrogant.
“Thanks.”
Cornelia said to Dekan.
“No need to thank.”
Dekan chuckled helplessly.
Cornelia was very happy.
Since coming to the Norton Kingdom, it was the first time she had so efficiently communicated with everyone.
Both still sat at the back of the classroom, but the “boundary” between them and the other students seemed less pronounced.
Even though it was Class A, still the prestigious Knight Academy, also known as the Warriors’ Hall, there were few who loved studying.
The classroom felt like a prison to them.
However, they noticed.
The top-ranked Dekan was earnestly reading a book.
The second-rank Cornelia was silently sitting without a word.
She seemed to have attempted reading the school materials but closed them soon after.
For some reason, the other students gradually began to emulate them.
The atmosphere in the classroom slowly returned to calm; the clamor settled in everyone’s heart.
This, perhaps, was the mentality of the strong.
They felt they had awakened.
When Professor Arno returned to the classroom, he was startled by the strange scene.
Walking through, the other three classes were unruly, yet here it was tranquil like a library.
Professor Arno took a deep breath, stepped onto the podium, and began explaining the various notices of the academy and the teaching system.
The academy had already issued written materials, clear and straightforward.
But every year there were always fools who didn’t read them, and as a class advisor, Professor Arno had no choice but to emphasize them again.
The compulsory courses for the first semester of the first-year Knight Academy were only four:
Combat.
Arithmetic.
Shadow World Common Knowledge.
Basic Theory of Magic Cards.
These four subjects were taken together by the students of Class A and would be automatically registered.
The remaining courses could be freely chosen, even from the other three departments’ courses of interest.
The courses provided by the Alchemy Academy were especially diverse, including psychology, economics, medicine, herbology, and more.
However, to the students of the Alchemy Academy, these courses might be nightmares.
They would be required to learn most of them.
After all, these people didn’t need to go into the dungeons.
Most students of the Knight Academy wouldn’t choose many cultural courses.
They would directly go to the adventure zones to hunt or conquer Shadow Worlds for credits.
Selective courses were taken with the students of other classes, needing to be determined within two weeks.
In the first two weeks, one could freely attend selective courses, register or cancel them at will.
Dekan had some interest in economics and some courses in magitech.
However, he didn’t plan to choose too many since he specialized in making cards.
Any shortfalls in credits could be made up by defeating Shadow Worlds a few times.
Holding onto a strong teammate and playing a supportive role, it was light work.
As for the teammate…
Unconsciously, Dekan looked to Cornelia next to him.
Cornelia, though only third-rank, her strength was comparable to a fourth-rank.
If Dekan teamed up with her, they would likely be matched against second or third-rank Shadow Worlds.
It was what one might call a tyrannical duo.
Perfect.
“Please carefully study the distributed materials, and it’s a good time to consider your selective courses too. The meeting today is concluded!”
After explaining the important matters, Professor Arno left the classroom neatly and cleanly.
Dekan tidied up his books and materials, preparing to leave.
However, he noticed Cornelia seemed troubled, her materials all wrinkled in her hands.
If she applied any more force, the material might be shredded.
“What’s wrong?”
Dekan asked.
“Math……”
Cornelia, a math-phobe.
For Shadow World adventures and the use of magic cards, math is the foundation, crucially important.
Moreover, during the preliminary exam, she had almost failed due to the written test.
Additionally, she wasn’t sure which selective courses to take.
She was considering simply not choosing any and instead just fighting in the Shadow Worlds.
If one could find a teammate who was academically brilliant, that would be good.
After all, most Shadow Worlds cannot be conquered by brute force alone.
Intellect-based characters often survive longer than strength-based ones.
But as warriors, everyone seemed to be academically average. She didn’t know anyone from the other three academies either.
She felt quite troubled.
Dekan: “Teach.”
Cornelia: “Skilled?”
Dekan: “Will.”
Cornelia: “Dinner?”
Dekan: “Let’s go.”
Cornelia’s mood immediately brightened.
Smart person exchanges were this simple and pure and without pretense.
…
Dekan and Cornelia walked together and left the classroom.
They attracted many students’ attention along the way.
It turned out that these two not only sat together in the classroom, but even after school, they acted together.
If this had happened in any other academy, it would surely create the impression of a perfect pair.
They would undoubtedly become the best topics for gossip at the beginning of the term.
But.
What to say about these two.
The two most dangerous freshmen of the Knight Academy formed an alliance.
There was a feeling of … a gang.
Just making people feel fearful.
…
Dekan and Cornelia found a restaurant; it was a European-style buffet.
Since they were unclear about each other’s preferences and the other’s hunger level, both approved of choosing this place.
Buffets often end up with slightly excessive food, so Dekan didn’t take too much.
And neither did Cornelia take much.
Both ate rather quietly.
Neither type enjoyed chatting while eating.
Dekan quickly became full.
He glanced at Cornelia, who had been sitting across and waiting for him, and asked, “Are you finished?”
“Hmm”
“What do you plan to do about the optional courses?”
“Everything, fight, Shadow World.”
“Together?”
“Alright.”
Cornelia didn’t know how Dekan was academically, but he was definitely better than her.
He must be quite intelligent.
And the most critical point was, she recognized Dekan’s strength.
Cornelia: “Where next?”
Dekan: “To the library, maybe?”
Cornelia: “Together?”
Dekan: “Sure.”
