Chapter 110 – Didi Maxwell’s Final Lecture on the History of Magic
The night had just begun after midnight.
Unaware of the events unfolding within the castle’s secret passages, the students made their way downstairs as the clock chimed.
Diana held Rose’s hand, searching stealthily through the crowd for the prince of the night.
Emma held a book in her left hand and fiddled with a winged gold coin in her right, lost in thought.
In the temple, the black-haired girl dressed as the Vampire Count finally awoke from her coma.
No one noticed.
In the dark corner, a bat that should have vanished at the stroke of twelve still lay hidden.
…
The imp with butterfly wings returned to the top of the Spiral Bell Tower.
Professor Didi Maxwell picked up a glowing bead with her thumb and index finger, raising it to observe it under the moonlight.
The bead was flawless, floating with a moon that competed with the moon in the sky.
“Is this the Tear of the Moon Goddess?”
A voice sounded from behind.
Professor Didi wasn’t surprised. She replied calmly, “History crushes many things; we can always find references. Four epochs ago, the legendary alchemist Martin offered a kingdom of 5,764,801 people as a sacrifice to create a Tear of the Moon Goddess, and he received a response from the ruler of the moon. I, however, merely used sixteen believers and seven sacrifices to complete this experiment.”
Professor Kazel appeared, his tone tinged with a sigh, “So, it’s over?”
“For now,” Professor Didi said leisurely, “Are you here to stop me?”
“No, I’m here to see you one last time.”
…
Dark struggled to poke his face out from the voluptuous demoness beast, breathing deeply the fresh air.
Just as he was about to use “Arrogance II,” the demoness beast whispered softly in his ear, “Someone’s coming.”
Dark quickly switched “Arrogance II” for a selection card.
The demoness beast immediately turned into light and disappeared.
Only then did Dark take the chance to survey his surroundings.
The walls of Saint Maryan Castle were made of an unknown material, undamaged even by the Moon Goddess’s arrows.
Only some explosion marks remained.
He quickly moved past these marks and found a white feather in the black mud.
“This can’t be…”
The white feather that had been present throughout could only be that one.
Dark’s heart leaped with joy as he ran over and picked up the angel feather emitting a soft white glow from the mud.
The angel feather was unsoiled by the muck, giving him a comforting feeling just by being close to it.
Dark opened his mana card deck and carefully hid the feather in a compartment.
The deck already contained four core materials:
① A harpy’s feather;
② A mermaid’s scale;
③ A button from a ragdoll zombie;
④ A celestial beast’s feather;
…
Patted his beloved card deck, Dark took out a magic pen and carefully stirred the mud that had once been the Moon Goddess. He confirmed there was nothing else inside before standing up.
Though he didn’t fully understand how the Moon Goddess suddenly vanished, sometimes the result was more important than the process.
After confirming this, Dark didn’t rush to the temple.
Inside the temple were both male and female sacrificial figures, but also a dangerous aquatic sect for him.
The best course was to wait quietly for the professors to arrive.
And indeed, the professors arrived shortly thereafter.
The first to arrive wasn’t Professor Kazel or Professor Lily, whom Dark was most familiar with, but a massive black bear!
When the bear ran over on all fours, Dark was genuinely startled.
But the bear skidded to a stop and transformed back into human form, revealing Professor Pavar Jones.
Seeing Professor Jones’ smooth bronze skin, Dark relaxed slightly.
“Daemon?”
Professor Jones frowned at Dark, then waved his mana card, saying, “Transformation card, advanced class.”
Dark responded with an “Oh,” knowing about transfiguration spells, but this was his first time seeing a transformation card.
Not many could master “Advanced Transfiguration” like Professor Jones.
Jones’ gaze quickly shifted to the pool of black mud. He asked urgently, “How did you get here? Do you know what happened?”
Dark shrugged, “I know a bit.”
There was no need to keep secrets anymore.
The matter was settled, and besides, he was just an innocent bystander except for the final battle.
Professor Jones sighed in relief and approached the mud, “It’s good to have someone who knows. We’ll explain everything when the principal arrives.”
“Pavar, I’m already here.”
With a flash of light, a tiny elf flew between them.
It was a small lion-maned elemental.
Dark naturally recognized this as one of Principal Altair’s nine elementals.
As for the principal herself, she might still be hosting the ball.
Just as he thought this, Dark noticed a gentle breeze pass by. Near the temple entrance, Professor Sarah Shylph appeared.
Professor Shylph entered the temple directly, her eyes widening upon seeing the altar without its statue and the students before it.
She waved her hand, sending a gust of wind that passed through the students’ bodies.
Returning, the wind transformed into a tiny wind elemental.
“How is it?” Professor Shylph asked.
The wind elemental blinked and gave a thumbs-up.
Professor Shylph sighed in relief, relieved that the students were safe.
Then…
Dark followed Professor Jones into the temple.
The temple looked post-incident.
Candles on the magical circuits had burned out, leaving only red wax.
Sixteen members of the aquatic sect lay unconscious, the pink mist covering them like spider webs had vanished.
Thirty-three students remained unconscious due to the effect of the soul-dispelling water.
The last black-haired girl… was feigning death.
Vit Gold felt as if he had experienced a nightmare and did not want to wake up.
…
Under the professors’ questioning, Dark recounted the events of the night.
When mentioning the start of the ritual, he changed his story, claiming he failed in attempting to disrupt the ritual and was pursued by the resurrected Moon Goddess.
“I slipped away in extreme fear and managed to escape the temple. Afterward, that entity calling itself the Moon Goddess pulled out a divine bow and shot at me with moonlight, like hunting a buck deer. But she clearly toyed with me, shooting several times. Finally, I found an opportunity and slipped away again… cough, actually, I don’t know how she vanished.”
