Page Seven – Linhua’s Intercept
On the first day of school, most students hadn’t switched over from their holiday mindset. Some were just lethargic and listless, while others were anxious and suffering from insomnia.
Although the Mediterranean homeroom teacher called it “holiday syndrome,” I attributed it more to the heat.
The sun in September might be weaker than in August, but for students who were used to air conditioning at home, it was still scorching. Especially since my seat was by the window, even with the curtains drawn, it couldn’t block out the heat.
“I can’t take it anymore! I’m going to die from the heat! Install air conditioning, you lousy school!”
Such complaints had been ongoing since noon, but what good did it do? The teachers in the office, who already had air conditioning, didn’t care about our well-being.
“Yada yada, compared to the hell I’ve endured, this is nothing.”
Zhao Zhao sneered coldly, his aura of strength spreading subtly, silencing the constant complainers.
No one questioned him because he wasn’t sweating at all, and there was even a gentle breeze blowing through his red pompadour—what was up with this Zhao Zhao?
“I learned something in that hellish tutoring… The more you complain about the heat, the more you realize human capabilities have limits… Unless you surpass them.”
“What exactly are you trying to say?”
He formed a hand seal, and his entire body floated up, twisting and distorting. A chill emanated from him, spreading throughout the classroom.
“I don’t want to be human anymore! Chairman!”
Even though he had turned into a white rectangular appliance, he could still speak: “I want to be an air conditioner!”
He then burst through the window, flying towards the girls’ school.
…
What the heck?!
Someone was pushing me.
“Chairman, wake up, school’s out.”
Opening my eyes, I saw Zhao Zhao.
“What, was it just a dream?”
“Huh? Did you have a nightmare?”
“Nightmare? No, not really, it was just a bit strange. I dreamed about you.”
Hearing this, he scratched his cheek awkwardly: “Chairman, don’t let Xiao Lei turn you gay, okay!”
“Go away, where did you get that idea? I just dreamed you turned into an air conditioner and flew away.”
He stood there stunned for three seconds.
“God damn air conditioner? Are you crazy?”
But had I fallen asleep on the first day of school? It seemed I was the laziest one.
Pushed out of the school in a wheelchair by Zhao Zhao, I unexpectedly met Senior Li Jianlian.
“He doesn’t look right.”
As Zhao Zhao said, the other person’s mental state seemed off. His head drooped, and his steps were rigid like a zombie in a movie, as if he had lost his soul.
“Let’s go ask what’s going on…”
“Pfft!”
Just as Zhao Zhao was about to push the wheelchair forward, someone suddenly darted out from beside the gate, delivering an iron shoulder charge that sent the 1.9-meter-tall Zhao Zhao flying into the roadside greenery.
“Hey! Kai-chan! Haven’t seen you in days, did you miss me?”
“Linhua?”
The person who came wasn’t anyone else but Tan Linhua, who had transferred to the neighboring girls’ school.
Wearing a short-sleeved white shirt, a red-and-black plaid skirt, a bow tie with the same pattern, and knee-high socks embroidered with the school emblem in gold thread—wait, are the socks part of the uniform?
The school uniform skirt originally covered the knees, but Linhua had rolled it up herself. Girls often adjust the hem according to their preferences, which explains why you see the same uniform but different lengths.
This was the summer uniform of Bìyáng Girls’ School. Although she had worn the girls’ school uniform while attending the boys’ school before, this was the first time I saw her in it after becoming a girl.
Hmm, even though her appearance hasn’t changed much, why do I feel she looks cuter now?
I scanned her up and down, reaching a conclusion.
“Linhua, did you put something in your chest?”
“Huh? Can you tell? No, don’t point it out even if you notice, dumb Kai-chan!”
She hit my head, and sure enough, she had padded her chest.
“I heard from Old Yan that you transferred to the next school. I was worried, considering you were the flower of the boys’ school and quite famous in the girls’ school, right?”
She scratched her head, answering somewhat embarrassed: “It’s fine. At first, they would be wary, but once they confirmed I was a girl, they started surrounding me, asking why I studied in the boys’ school for a year…”
Linhua circled around the wheelchair, and her red-and-black plaid skirt kept fluttering past my view, revealing a smooth, full thigh.
“How did you respond?”
“I said I had a boyfriend in the boys’ school and hid my gender to be with him. Isn’t that romantic?”
Her boyfriend should refer to Yan Liuzhuan, right?
“Oh, Kai-chan, do you have time now? I have something to ask you.”
Without waiting for my response, she grabbed the wheelchair handles and called out to the just-risen Zhao Zhao.
“The wheelchair is really helpful. Big guy, go back first. I’ll send Kai-chan back later!”
“Why did you suddenly pop out and knock me down?”
“Sorry, sorry, I was in a hurry.”
Zhao Zhao looked at me, seemingly asking for my opinion with his eyes.
Is this some kind of choice branch in a dating sim game?
Option A: Go home with Zhao Zhao after school.
Option B: Listen to what Linhua has to say.
These choices usually end up reducing the好感度 (likability) of the other party.
“Maybe you could wait, and we can go back together after I talk to Linhua?”
“No!” Linhua immediately objected to my compromise proposal: “This matter is complicated, we need to find another place to discuss it, it will take a lot of time!”
She clasped her hands in apology and playfully stuck out her tongue at Zhao Zhao.
“Sorry, big guy. Next time I’ll help you take pictures of the girls’ school. Can you go back today?”
“Pictures of the girls’ school?”
“Actually, cute JK photos!”
“Oh oh oh! Huff huff!”
Linhua blinked her big eyes, presenting an irresistible temptation to Zhao Zhao, who responded excitedly like an ape.
“Then I’ll go back now. Remember to send Chairman home!”
“No problem, leave it to me!”
Zhao Zhao left with his bag, and I was still concerned about his likability! Do you really want those cute JK photos that much?
I turned to Linhua seriously.
“Linhua, can you also give me a copy of those cute JK photos…”
“Ha, Kai-chan, I can provide personal private photos. Want them?”
“No, preferably bigger ones.”
She pushed the wheelchair toward the middle of the road!
“I was wrong! Your photos are fine!”
Only then did she stop and return to the sidewalk.
Pushing my wheelchair along the wall of the girls’ school, I turned my head to look at her.
“What exactly do you want to ask?”
“Sister Fei wants to see you.” She lowered her eyes to meet mine, leaning close to whisper mysteriously: “Kai-chan, how many things are you still hiding from me?”
“Sister Fei?” I searched my memory and finally recalled a name: “Huángfǔ Fēi?”
Huángfǔ Fēi, or Old Feng, it seems Linhua really exchanged a lot of information with her after returning home. Suspecting me was only natural.
Silence reigned as I broke out in a cold sweat.
I remained silent, and so did Linhua. She watched me with great interest, enjoying my flustered reaction.
If it weren’t for my leg fracture, I probably would have fled in fear.
Crossing the street, Linhua pushed me into a café. Perhaps due to its proximity to the girls’ school, to cater to young girls’ tastes, unlike most cafes’ dark, classical decor, this one featured bright, luxurious, and distinctively colorful Baroque-style interior.
This place clearly wasn’t cheap based on the decor.
In a quiet corner of the café, by the window, a black-haired, straight-haired girl in the same uniform as Linhua quietly flipped through a book. Occasionally, she took a sip of coffee, turned pages, and swept her hair aside. She was serene and elegant, beautiful like a painting.
“Sister Fei, I brought the person over.”
