<Chapter 1179> Day 15
“Ugh, these damn bastards…”
I wanted to slaughter the villagers who were surrounding our dormitory and admiring the roaring flames. But in a crisis like this, I had to stay calm. It wasn’t an issue jumping out of a second-story window. However, taking on over thirty armed villagers alone was practically impossible.
“…What is this?”
Ha and Raiko, who approached from behind me, furrowed their brows. She kept moving her hands, putting on her underwear.
“They’ve planned this. They must be pretty pissed off.”
From behind, Nakagami Lisa spoke calmly. Her voice was calm, but her body was busy—she was getting dressed and packing her bag. The floor was burning hot. Flames were rising. I couldn’t keep staring outside forever, so I started getting dressed too.
I looked out the window.
This was the girls’ dormitory. The other three girls staying on the first floor hurriedly packed their bags and went outside. The villagers grinned creepily as they aimed weapons at the college girls.
I checked the boys’ dormitory. The situation was the same. The three guys didn’t want to burn to death, so they came out with kitchen knives, metal rods, and baseball bats, facing off against the villagers.
The villagers were waiting, feeling like soldiers following someone’s orders.
“Nakagami-senpai, what should we do? Should we go downstairs?”
“We can’t go downstairs. We have to jump out of the second-story window.”
Nakagami Lisa pushed my back, meaning I should jump out of the second-floor window first. I opened the window with a bang. Black smoke escaped outside. The inferno that began on the first floor was now reaching the second.
Thud.
Jumping down from the second floor wasn’t difficult; I landed easily. After me, Ha, Raiko, and Nakagami Lisa jumped down.
“Heh. Hehehe.”
“Young ladies are truly beautiful…”
“The shrine maiden will surely let us taste you. She always does.”
Young or old, they all stared at Ha, Raiko, and Nakagami Lisa with lustful eyes. Even in this strange village, the gaze for beauties remained the same.
I wanted to kill those men who lusted after my women right away, but I had no weapon in my hands. Moreover, they weren’t letting their guard down.
“We must be careful with those Joesenjin. The shrine maiden warned us.”
“That guy killed my friend and cousin.”
“My friend was also killed by that guy and hung on the ginkgo tree.”
“That guy shouldn’t be killed easily.”
“Tear him apart!”
“The Mountain God will take that guy to hell.”
“Hell isn’t enough. That guy must suffer for eternity!”
The villagers’ murderous intent focused on me.
I didn’t even flinch an eyebrow. Thirty people’s killing intent? It was laughable. Besides, they were just ordinary civilians, not soldiers.
As the villagers saw me standing there unaffected, they started looking to someone for cues.
An elderly man stood behind the villagers, stocky and round. An old man with pure white hair and eyebrows. His mouth was tightly shut.
This old man had been hidden behind the villagers until now. The shortest and smallest in stature, about elementary school size, yet he carried an overwhelming presence.
‘He’s probably killed at least ten people.’
That old man stood with his hands behind his back and told the villagers,
“Wait. Don’t move recklessly.”
“Sasaki-san, if you wait like that, they’ll escape!”
“Are you serious?”
“Idiot. We’ve surrounded you from the front, and your house is burning down behind you. Where do you plan to run? Just shut up and listen to me.”
“…Yes.”
Sasaki approached with confident strides. Surprisingly powerful for his short and thin legs.
“Hey, Jap.”
Sakaguchi called out to me.
“What is it, slant eyes?”
“Isn’t your back feeling hot? Surrender already. You’ve probably heard that dying by fire is the most painful death.”
“Looking at your ugly faces, I might just prefer burning to death cleanly.”
“Well then, burn to ashes. Go inside that building behind you.”
“…”
I had absolutely no intention of walking into the flames. As I stayed silent, the standoff continued. Crack! Sparks flew from behind. The heat made my back drenched in sweat.
‘This isn’t good.’
The heat was draining my stamina. I might even get burned. Most importantly, the psychological pressure was immense. This must be what Sasaki’s aiming for.
While I was contemplating my options, someone from our side walked confidently towards the villagers.
It was Minewaki Jurie who had conflicts with Mori Masahiro earlier.
The villagers aimed their weapons at Jurie.
“Get those things away!”
Minewaki Jurie said provocatively.
‘Does she have this much guts?’
No way.
I immediately shook my head. She was the one throwing hysterics against Mori Masahiro earlier today. There’s no way she’d suddenly become this bold. It makes more sense to think otherwise.
‘She must have a reason to act so confidently around them.’
When can a person act confidently? The answer is simple: when they’ve successfully completed their task.
“Sasaki-san, I did exactly as you asked.”
“That’s right. Good job. You set the fire very well. Did you try this once before?”
“I have no intention of joking around with you. Keep your promise.”
“I promise. I won’t harm you. Thanks to you, we’ve also identified those guys’ information.”
Sasaki waved his hand. The weapons aimed at Minewaki Jurie lowered, and a path opened. Jurie sighed in relief and walked behind the villagers.
Betrayal.
And judging from the looks of it, it wasn’t something decided overnight.
“Minewaki! You didn’t!”
Aizawa Natsuko, who’s in the same grade as Minewaki Jurie, was shocked.
Minewaki Jurie looked coldly at her.
“I had no choice. I wanted to live. I never wanted to come to a place like this or experience horrors straight out of a horror movie… That’s too cruel. I want to live.”
BOOM.
A loud sound came from the male dormitory. The burning roof fell down. The college students flinched. In this situation, that alone was enough to instill fear and break their spirit, especially with the added imagination of getting crushed by the collapsing building.
The other college students started looking at each other. Sasaki seemed to sense this ghost-like and spoke.
“I promise survival to whoever among you surrenders first.”
An unbelievable statement.
If he really intended to save them, he wouldn’t have resorted to such extreme actions.
“Except for that Jap.”
Sasaki pointed at me.
“That Jap must die. That Jap has committed too many sins.”
“You’ll die by my hands too.”
I raised my middle finger at Sasaki. He remained unfazed by my provocation.
More time passed. Nebata Noriko and Aizawa Natsuko exchanged glances and became restless. The situation was similar for the male students.
“Senpai, Hagawa. Are you thinking of surrendering?”
“They know what you and I have done. It might be better to die than surrender.”
Nakagami Lisa picked up an axe and handed one to me.
“How about Hagawa?”
“…Compared to being captured and violated by those bastards… I’d rather it be you.”
“What an honor.”
“Don’t misunderstand. It’s just relatively better compared to them.”
Hagawa Ryouko held a dagger. She also planned to fight until the end.
But I had no intention of dying here. I plan to break through the encirclement and escape.
“I’ll open the way.”
With full recovery, using my body as a shield and charging forward… it should be enough.
It’s possible.
“Two, I surrender!!”
Aizawa Natchiko shouted and walked toward the villagers. Sasaki’s lips curled into a smirk.
“Welcome. I promise you survival. Stay back there. The rest of you… I’ll need to sever an arm or so.”
Aizawa Natchiko’s face brightened as she walked over to where Minezaki Juri was standing. Minezaki Juri looked conflicted.
Sasaki gestured to the villagers. The encirclement tightened, weapons closing in.
The ground shook.
It was a fairly large earthquake—big enough to split the earth with a crackling sound.
“Huh?!”
“It’s an earthquake!”
“Shit! Aah! What’s piercing me?!”
The villagers staggered, losing their balance. In the chaos, an accident happened. BOOM, BOOM! The burning dormitory building began to collapse.
“Now!”
I shouted, raising my hatchet and charging at the villagers. The earthquake affected me too, but I could handle this level of shaking.
I split open the skull of the man in front of me, picked up a fallen spear, and plunged it into the chest of another man who had stumbled.
“Hahaha, hahahahahaha!”
Nakagami Risa burst into laughter, swinging her hatchet wildly at the villagers. Her stance was unsteady due to the quake.
“…”
What worried me was Hagawa Ryoko. As a ninja clan descendant, she had skill—but having skill and killing people are two different things.
‘…Unnecessary worry.’
Hagawa Ryoko was mercilessly slaughtering the villagers. Her daggers struck vital points, and already two were dead. Her face remained calm, without any sign of disturbance.
‘Has she killed before?’
If not, it could only be described as innate talent.
In any case, they were doing well.
I approached Sasaki. This guy didn’t sit right with me. Even if we retreat, this one has to die.
“Kill that damn Korean bastard!!”
Sasaki shouted.
The villagers failed to meet Sasaki’s expectations. They couldn’t even maintain their balance due to the shaking ground. These were ordinary farmers after all.
“Aaaah!”
Screams erupted from all directions.
Even Sasaki’s previously calm face showed signs of anxiety. He pulled out a red pill from his pocket, swallowed it, and turned to flee.
“Where do you think you’re going?!”
I lunged at Sasaki. Midway, he tripped—or rather, faked it while pulling out a weapon from his pocket.
A silver revolver.
Sasaki grinned wickedly and aimed the barrel at me. BANG BANG BANG, gunshots rang out. Luckily, none hit me. Rolling across the ground hurt my head and back, but I couldn’t stay still. The bastard kept aiming at me.
BANG BANG BANG!
A bullet grazed my right shoulder. But with that, he’d used all six shots. I boldly charged at him. He wiped away blood from his eye and pulled out another weapon from his pocket—a spike.
Clumsy.
From firing the gun to wielding the spike, everything was amateurish.
I swung my hatchet and struck Sasaki’s wrist holding the spike. Half his wrist got severed and dangled grotesquely. Panicking, Sasaki tried to run, but I pounced on him and slammed my hatchet into his skull.
“Done! Let’s go!!”
I shouted. The college students started running toward me. I helped them by killing more villagers along the way.
“Gender!”
Mori Masahiro, Wada Kyoshiro, and Hudo Jun joined us.
Mori Masahiro glanced at the two women who hadn’t joined yet.
“Minezaki! Aizawa! Over here!”
“Don’t joke around! I’m not going! The villagers promised to spare me!!”
“Well, I’m not going either. There’s no way we can escape this village!!”
“Do you really think those bastards will let you live? Stop saying foolish things and come over here!”
“We’re not going!”
They shouted.
“Senior Mori. Let’s just go ourselves. We don’t have time.”
I didn’t care if those ugly broads lived or died. I started running toward the mountain, followed by Nakagami Lisa and Hagawa Ryoko. Others trailed behind us. Soon, the earthquake ceased.
