Chapter 1204: You Were Meant to Be the Sacrifice
Lin Nuo felt a chill run down his spine as he listened. These girls had some serious issues with their mindset—why were they all thinking he had to lie in bed all day while they took care of him for life?
What twisted yandere thoughts! It was downright terrifying!
Should he keep a safe distance from them?
“Junior Martial Brother, what’s wrong?”
“Keep your distance from me.”
Lin Nuo backed away, creating some space between them.
“Why?” They suddenly felt neglected and their tone dripped with deep sorrow.
“You all want me to be paralyzed in bed… I’m kind of scared.”
“Lin Nuo, you are the Supreme Demon Lord! How could I let you be paralyzed? If you don’t become paralyzed, I’d be eternally grateful!”
Mu Yiting showered Lin Nuo with unyielding idol worship. It sounded nice, but Lin Nuo didn’t buy it one bit.
In theory, he shouldn’t, but a woman’s potential is tremendous! They had hidden layers that were worlds apart from their surface appearances.
Lin Nuo just wouldn’t get closer to them. Of course, this was only temporary; who knows, he might end up hugging them again soon.
Long periods of distance might upset them, and who knew what they’d do then?
“For now, just stay behind me. Yeah, we’ll talk after you’ve calmed down.”
Lin Nuo adjusted himself and prepared to open the door.
They didn’t seem ready to give up, waiting for the moment Lin Nuo relaxed before rushing in to snuggle up. It made no sense not to be close when they were already so near!
Of course, that was like an ambush. For someone like Lin Nuo, who had a powerful anti-detection ability, it was undeniably playing with fire.
Alright, time to push the door.
Lin Nuo gently pushed the door open and discovered an altar inside, with raging gray flames flickering ominously nearby.
“I told you, it looks all shiny on the outside, but behind it is darker than the Refining Demon Sect.”
Lin Nuo complained, oddly enjoying this atmosphere. It felt better than the purifying light from outside.
“Junior Martial Brother, I’m scared! Can you slow down a bit?”
“Come on. You’re already a demon now—no way you should be scared in a place like this!”
Lin Nuo rolled his eyes. Was she serious? She was a demon now, still the same Liu Shuqin from before?
Even so, she shouldn’t be scared. How many demons had she vanquished to earn her feats? Any demons that saw her would be the ones scared!
“Junior Martial Brother, I really am scared! Just hold my hand as we go!”
“If you’re scared, then wait outside.”
Lin Nuo didn’t relent; she needed to stop pretending to be weak. If she grabbed onto both of their hands, it could easily end in a brawl.
These girls were strange—if they were together, they wouldn’t fight. But the moment they got too close to him, they’d start firing off like crazy, acting as if he could ignite their fuse!
“If you’re this weak, you can’t come in. Wait outside.”
Mu Yiting helped Lin Nuo keep Liu Shuqin outside, but Liu Shuqin had no intention of listening. How else would she find out what was happening in there?
She wasn’t scared; fear was just a front.
Soon enough, both stepped forward, entering the room, and the door promptly closed behind them.
“Ah? What is…?”
Mu Yiting gasped in surprise; it seemed the big door wouldn’t open anymore.
“Are we… caught in a trap?”
“You can think we’re caught in a trap, or you can think the other side is in a trap. Whoever dies is caught in a trap.”
Lin Nuo remained unfazed; he had a feeling the door would close. Since that was the case, he’d go all in for a decisive resolution.
He could sense a different kind of demon energy coming from ahead—right before the Crack of the Demon Realm!
At that moment, the area erupted with the voices of countless vengeful spirits, some high-pitched, some deep and throaty. If an average person walked through here, their ears would likely go deaf from the cacophony.
“Are you two alright?”
Lin Nuo turned back; he had just told them to stay away, and now he was closing the distance again.
Saying one thing and doing another—the situation was severe, he couldn’t just leave them behind!
Mu Yiting: “Having you around makes it all better.”
Liu Shuqin: “Junior Martial Brother is still as reliable as ever.”
“Follow me.”
Lin Nuo took their hands again and cautiously moved forward, feeling the Crack of the Demon Realm was right above the altar.
Such altars often hid all sorts of strange things. If possible, he’d throw in some incantations and summon three phantom gods.
Maybe a bit too chuuni.
“Hm? Look, isn’t that what those disciples were referring to? Someone who’s been in seclusion?”
Lin Nuo squinted and spotted a familiar figure.
Master Zhao, shackled and bound at the altar’s edge.
His eyes were tightly closed, and he didn’t move at all, as if he had already passed away.
But not yet confirmed—he needed to go check for a breath. If there wasn’t one, then that meant he was really gone.
“Junior Martial Brother, that’s the Sect Leader! What happened to him…?”
“Xuanyun Sect has changed its dynasty, a new king is crowned, the old king must go down, and sacrifices will always happen. The Xuanyun Sect isn’t any more glamorous than the Refining Demon Sect.”
Lin Nuo frowned, slowly approaching Master Zhao. He called out, but got no response. Trying a hidden weapon on his leg to see if it would trigger a reaction was the next step, hoping to confirm if he was still alive.
No response.
Could he really be dead?
If he had incense, he’d burn three sticks as an offering.
“Junior Martial Brother, he can’t be…?”
“Could be dead. Zhang Yuanxu was almost able to complete his plan. He wanted to perform a ritual to fully transform himself—essentially deriving that madness from forbidden arts. He would end up like a demon. Master Zhao was powerful, but served as a sacrifice here, surrounded by many vengeful spirits, would certainly be sacrificed for strong demon energy. How would the esteemed Xuanyun Sect draw strong demon energy? By opening the Crack of the Demon Realm.”
“How did he manage to do that?” Liu Shuqin asked, puzzled.
“Just like you, he heard sounds from the Demon Realm, then coordinated with them to summon the Crack of the Demon Realm. The demon energy flowing through was exactly what he needed, and it made him a pawn for others. Probably received orders to kill you, Mu Yiting.”
“Kill me?”
“Yes, and of course, that includes me as well.”
Lin Nuo said solemnly.
“They know who you are. Your very existence threatens their plans, so they’ll use people from the mortal realm to eliminate you. And I’m an even greater threat; they want to get rid of me too. Plus, Senior Sister, theoretically, you will be the sacrifice.”
“I’m the sacrifice?! So if I came here alone, does that mean I’m going to…?!”
Liu Shuqin panicked at Lin Nuo’s words. Coming here as a sacrifice meant she’d die, and that would mean she’d never see Junior Martial Brother again!
“Don’t worry. Coming here alone would indeed make you the sacrifice, but coming with me means you’ll be fine.”
Lin Nuo said confidently, and in an instant, the vengeful spirits started swirling around, seemingly perceiving them as enemies and charging towards them.
“Just a bunch of minor thugs.”
Lin Nuo quickly activated the demon barrier, keeping the vengeful spirits at bay.
