Chapter 1235: The Disappearing Ladies
The sandstorm calmed down, but the desert remained, the land utterly eroded by the winds, and Wind Sea Forest could never return to its former state.
“Is this… the end?”
“It should be,” Lin Nuo replied, then he summoned his sword, taking Luo Xiaoxue up into the sky to survey the situation.
With the sandstorm gone, visibility expanded significantly; there were no more obstacles to hinder their sight.
No strange Sacred Beasts to be seen, just a chilling silence, as all living beings had perished on this land.
“All gone. Let’s head back, wash up, and get some sleep.”
Lin Nuo turned his sword around, preparing to leave, but before he went, he asked Luo Xiaoxue, “Are you heading back? I feel like you’re still thinking about your deceased father. But I must remind you, even if you stay here overnight, you won’t find your dad’s corpse; he’s just gone.”
“I know that, but everyone must go through the experience of life and death separation. I’m not that fragile.”
“So, are we leaving?”
“Let’s go.”
“Alright.”
With that, Lin Nuo revved up and zoomed straight towards the inn.
……
“We’re here. It’s still dark, hurry back and sleep.”
After Lin Nuo’s sword touched down, he let Luo Xiaoxue dismount. It had been quite a whirlwind of a night.
Yet he reaped some rewards; at least he had glimpsed those peculiar Sacred Beasts—dog-headed men, centaurs, two-headed dragons—an eyeful for sure.
Honestly, if not for the threat those Sacred Beasts posed, he would have loved to awaken them, ideally gathering them under his command for unified management.
“Uh-huh, alright. You should get some rest too, Knight Nuo. Goodnight.”
Luo Xiaoxue bowed and then headed back to her room, leaving Lin Nuo alone.
Lin Nuo gazed up at the sky, sighed deeply, lost in thought.
Who knew when this would end?
Initially, his primary goal after being reborn was to kill Su Kexin, but gradually he accepted her, even Luo Xiaoxue, who had once hunted him down.
Slowly, that hatred faded away.
He no longer harbored the intense desire to be a villain; he had long ceased being a qualified antagonist. He was, of course, not a hero either—something of a mixed bag.
Perhaps after resolving the issues of the Demon Realm and Sacred Realm, he could retire and live a leisurely life.
Naturally, he wanted to fulfill his promises to them and marry.
When he first arrived in this world, he aspired to be a harem king, but as things went awry, could he now achieve that dream?
He couldn’t feel joyful; the passion of the past had already dissipated.
“Aren’t you asleep yet?”
Lin Nuo noticed someone approaching; it was his disciple Ling Meng.
In the past, she would have bounced over eagerly, but now her eyes were filled with sorrow.
That wasn’t her usual expression.
“You seem troubled, Ling Meng?”
Lin Nuo said, settling against a nearby tree, the moonlight filtering through the branches, illuminating his face.
“Master, did you just go out with her?”
“Yes.”
Lin Nuo was straightforward, not shying away.
“What for?”
“To deal with matters about the Sacred Realm. I just resolved an incident; it’s a bit overwhelming.”
“I can’t sleep. Can you tell me about it?”
“If you want to listen, I don’t mind.”
Lin Nuo opened his right hand, and Ling Meng eagerly leaned against his shoulder.
Then Lin Nuo recounted the recent happenings as if telling a story, while Ling Meng found it fantastical—there were layers to the world, and changes came too fast.
“Actually, could your situation also be related to the Demon Realm?”
Lin Nuo posited.
“Me? Does Master want me to be related?” Ling Meng whispered, leaning against Lin Nuo’s chest.
“Not really. But your background is beyond my capability to change. A person possessing extraordinary powers probably doesn’t belong to this world, and that’s you.”
“You mean my out-of-control abilities?”
“Exactly. There are others like you; I suspect she is one of them.”
“Su Kexin?”
“You guessed it.”
“Of course. This isn’t my first clash with her. You’ve mentioned before that we share some similarities. Now I am homeless as well; last time the Barrier tumult destroyed my forces and family. I don’t want to be associated with the Demon Realm and then leave Master.”
“That absolutely won’t happen.”
Lin Nuo gently caressed Ling Meng’s hair, comforting her.
The women around him all had unique abilities and backgrounds; it was giving him quite a headache.
If these women became his wives, who knew what kind of upheaval it would bring?
“Certain things must be faced; the truth is surfacing. But all of this will pass.”
“Uh-huh, I believe in you, Master. You seem to have stories. I don’t know your past; you look so melancholic when you’re alone.”
“Is that so?”
Lin Nuo forced a smile, memories of his past hardships resurfacing each time he was alone.
“One day, I will slowly share with you. But for now, don’t let those matters affect your emotions. My past is just a joke. Of course, I’m also a joke now.”
Lin Nuo chuckled helplessly; there were indeed many poignant thoughts.
Ling Meng didn’t pry further; she leaned against Lin Nuo, and they spent the night under the tree together.
……
The next day, Lin Nuo woke up to find Ling Meng was gone.
He had only dozed off for a moment, and she had vanished.
She must have woken up and gone to have breakfast.
That said, he was feeling a bit hungry himself.
Let’s see what breakfast this inn has to offer.
Lin Nuo stretched lazily, just about to head back inside when he noticed the maidens getting up.
“Good morning, young master! I made breakfast for you in the kitchen! Hurry and eat, or it’ll get cold!”
“Uh-huh, thanks for your effort, Ruo’er.”
Lin Nuo patted Li Ruo’er on the head as a reward.
“Have you seen Ling Meng? Where is she?”
“Her? I haven’t seen her… If you’re looking for her, I can pass on a message.”
“It’s nothing. Just wanted to know where she is.”
Lin Nuo realized that Ling Meng was indeed missing—like she had vanished into thin air.
She should be around here somewhere.
However, after searching nearby and failing to find Ling Meng, he asked the inn’s boss and the other maidservants, but no one had any clue.
“This…”
Lin Nuo began to worry. She was just in his embrace last night, and now she had disappeared?
Could it be that another Barrier disturbance caused her to be transported somewhere else?
That shouldn’t be; logically, he would have been transported as well.
Yet, besides Ling Meng, Mu Yiting was also nowhere to be found.
“Where’s Mu Yiting? Have you seen her?” Lin Nuo asked the other maidens.
“Not here, Junior Martial Brother. It’s strange; why are Miss Mu and Miss Ling both missing?”
Liu Shuqin said with concern, “Maybe they’re nearby?”
“They’re not here. One has disappeared, possibly…”
Lin Nuo pondered for a moment, and only one place came to mind.
The Demon Realm.
Ling Meng was related to the Demon Realm, and Mu Yiting was needless to say.
It appeared this matter was no simple feat, and he couldn’t afford to slack off for even a moment.
