Chapter 1244: Let Me Tell You About My Past
Right now, Lin Nuo’s thought was to be a salted fish and live in seclusion.
But that had to wait until after the disaster was resolved.
How long this disaster would last, he had no idea; even surviving was a question.
The issues of how to leave the border between the three realms and how to deal with the Handa Alliance were major problems.
One step at a time.
“Your dad is doing well in the human world, so you don’t need to worry about that. Right now the magic army under Qin Dao is all thinking about coming here, they can’t even bother with your army. But in my view, that old coot Liang Zhao definitely has his own agenda; he won’t simply obey the Handa Alliance without wanting something in return.”
“What do you mean?” Qin Shili asked.
“Their alliance is bound to fall apart, but whether that will pose a threat to the human world depends on Liang Zhao. I suspect he is currently the strongest magic user cooperating with the Handa Alliance in the human realm; Zhang Yuanxu from the Xuanyun Sect is already gone.”
“Do you have a deep-seated grudge against Zhang Yuanxu?”
“Yes. But without him, I might not have become who I am today. Let me tell you, if it weren’t for him back then, I might not have embarked on the path of magic and could have died long ago, likely in a very pathetic manner.”
“I wish to hear more. I hope you can tell me about your past; I want to know. Not understanding the person next to me makes me feel like a failure.”
Qin Shili repeatedly begged Lin Nuo to share his past with her, but each time Lin Nuo was vague, leaving it a mystery for her.
All she knew was that he seemed to come from the future or a dimension she wasn’t familiar with.
“It’s no trouble to tell you.”
Slowly, Lin Nuo found a water source. On the ground lay several dead demon beasts, and he decided to roast their meat to stave off hunger.
He first lit a fire, then began roasting, and now it was just a matter of waiting.
But with no sauce, they would have to make do.
“It needs to roast for a while; can we talk now?”
Qin Shili was impatient, eager to hear about Lin Nuo’s past, hoping for a legendary tale or a sad story.
“Ah, there was once a young lad…”
“Mhm, a young lad.”
Qin Shili echoed, already guessing that this young lad was him.
“He was a revengeful person, eager to achieve something in this world. One day, he was fortunate enough to enter the Xuanyun Sect…”
Lin Nuo began to simplify and narrate his past—his aspirations upon joining the sect, his later experiences, feeling smothered, eventually persecuted, then fleeing everywhere, living a hard life in the wilderness.
In the end, he spoke about how that young lad turned to magic, began his revenge plan, killed those who looked down on him, massacred many innocents, and ultimately lost himself in a life of slaughter.
Finally, the young lad died in battle, believing he was at last freed, only to gain a new life.
This new life was his past; he returned to the past and used his knowledge to take revenge on those who had killed him.
Then things didn’t go as he wished, and he was instead viewed as a hero destined to save the world.
Gradually, the young lad adapted to this new life and found direction again.
And he had a lover, no longer wanting to pursue revenge—it had lost all meaning.
“And then a change occurred in this world, and everything that followed was beyond my control.”
Lin Nuo had spoken a lot and was thirsty, so he took a sip of water to moisten his throat.
“I see, your experience is truly legendary.”
“Don’t you think it sounds ridiculous?”
“Not at all, because it explains all your behaviors.”
Qin Shili lightly nodded, flipping the roasting meat of the demon beast.
“So, you actually liked me from the start, didn’t you?”
“Yes, I liked you very much; you truly embodied the goddess I aspired to. But back then, you wouldn’t even glance my way, and the flowers I sent you were ignored.”
“You need to understand, you back then couldn’t attract me at all.”
“I know, otherwise, how would I be who I am today?”
Lin Nuo shrugged with a wry smile, cutting into the meat of the demon beast, planning to roast it a bit longer before eating.
“It’s normal that you didn’t like me back then; even I didn’t like myself. By the way, you don’t have to stick so close, do you?”
“I feel this way I can sense your emotions.”
Qin Shili leaned against Lin Nuo, listening to his heartbeat.
“From a despised and self-destructive male cultivator to an invincible Demon Lord, you’ve suffered too much. It’s a pity I couldn’t accompany you. What about me? What happened to us? If I die, would it be at your hands?”
“I didn’t have many clashes with you, and I lost track of you afterward. You might be dead, or perhaps you retired—who knows?”
Lin Nuo turned the meat, finding it perfectly roasted. It smelled good even without sauce.
“Regardless, in that life, none of us had a good ending.”
“What about your servant? Liu Shuqin? Su Kexin? And…?”
“Ruo’er was placed under house arrest for letting me go and lost her freedom. Liu Shuqin died quite early. As for Su Kexin, she did kill me, but it seems she also lost her pursuit, drifting without direction; in short, she’s completely different from the Su Kexin of now.”
“Alright, I understand. You’ve gained a new life, and the current developments are indeed heading in a good direction.”
“Good or not, I can’t say. I don’t even know what good really means; let’s just make do today. Here, we can ride swords, but it’s easy to be spotted. Okay, it’s time to eat.”
Lin Nuo realized the meat was ready and handed it to Qin Shili, noticing she looked quite tired and probably hungry.
“You eat first.” Qin Shili pushed it away.
“I see you’re quite hungry.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Don’t lie to yourself; do we even care who eats first? Go on, eat. Are you worried it’s poisoned? Then I’ll try it first.”
Lin Nuo took a bite of the roasted demon beast meat. It tasted exquisite, and the quality was superb—providing a substantial energy boost.
“No poison; you won’t die.”
“I’m not worried about poison; what poison could harm you? Fine, let me have a bite.”
“You have your own.”
“Let’s share a piece; isn’t that nice? Or do you find me disgusting?”
Before Lin Nuo could respond, Qin Shili leaned in and bit off a piece. Sharing the delicious meat was much better than eating separately.
“Honestly, if you had told me in my past life that I would share a piece of meat with you, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s strangely magical.”
After having a hearty meal, Lin Nuo and Qin Shili found a shelter spot, where they decided to stay for the night. Fortunately, no enemies came to invade, and they fell asleep holding each other, resting peacefully.
The next day, they quickly took to the skies on their swords, exploring the world before them.
However, along the way, they encountered some demons attacking them; they belonged to the Handa Alliance, and now they were considered wanted, with a heavy bounty on their heads.
