Chapter 125: Next Time, Grab More
“Ah, it’s finally starting! Thankfully, everyone here seems to have some sense, knowing how to keep it short and sweet. Otherwise, if Gaia starts babbling on about this and that, I’d probably be too hungry to move by the time he finishes!”
Aierjisi was eagerly shoving a delicious-looking roasted lamb chop into her mouth. That mouthwatering lamb chop was just too tempting.
“Hey, why don’t you wait until you finish eating before grabbing more? Why take so many at once?”
Yake eyed the eight piled lamb chops on the table, immediately doubting that if Aier had more than one mouth, or if her mouth wasn’t so small, she’d probably try to stuff three lamb chops in there at once.
“No way! If I wait until I finish to go grab more, it’d waste my precious energy running back and forth. So I’m just taking a bit more at once.”
“It’s not like you’re running a marathon; how much energy could that possibly waste? Besides, you Blood Clan folks regenerate quickly, right? Your stamina comes back pretty fast. And let’s not forget, you’ve got those recovery potions too!”
“Potions are a super valuable resource; I can’t just use them in a casual setting like this! Plus, it’s best to minimize energy expenditure. Just because it comes back fast doesn’t mean it’s okay to waste it!”
“Alright, just keep in mind how you’re eating. A lot of people are watching you two, you know?”
Yake looked around, noticing several people pretending to be engaged in conversations, but actually stealing glances at their table.
It made sense, really, since Gaia had just given them some significant attention. It was only natural for people in the hall to notice them.
“What do their gazes matter? Do you think worrying about their judgment is going to fill my stomach? Don’t be ridiculous! I’m far from full; I don’t have time to care about how I eat. Are you one of those people who’d worry about appearances while starving?”
There’s an old saying back on Earth that when you’re about to starve, even eating a panda isn’t illegal.
So by the same logic, when you’re nearly starving, who has time to worry about etiquette or pride? All that matters is filling your stomach, and the rest can wait until after!
“But I don’t think you’re at the point of starving just yet, Aierjisi.”
Upon hearing that voice behind her, Aierjisi felt a chill run down her spine.
“Father King… where did you run off to? I didn’t see you earlier.”
“I went to chat with the Ice Dragon King for a bit. When I returned, I saw you all diving into your meals, so I just grabbed a little food. May I join you?”
“Even if I said I didn’t want you to sit here, you wouldn’t listen, would you?”
“Can’t argue with that.”
“Then why even bother asking? Just sit down already.”
“Then I’ll just respect your wishes.”
Carl found an empty chair and plopped down, placing the plate he held on the table.
Is this what ‘just grabbing a little food’ looks like?
Yake glanced at the plate Carl had, which was piled so high it practically resembled a mountain of food.
Does this amount count as ‘a little’ by Blood Clan standards?
“This roasted lamb chop looks nice, I’ll take it.”
“No way! Those lamb chops are all mine! Even if you’re Father King, I can’t let you have them!”
Seeing Carl about to snatch her lamb chops, Aierjisi quickly grabbed his hand to stop him.
“Aierjisi, I am your father! Do you really want to oppose me?”
“How many lamb chops do you think there are left? You could easily go grab some over there; why do you have to take mine?”
“If I can grab what’s right in front of me, why would I want to go and fetch some from further away? You could just finish yours and then go back!”
“No way! Father King, if you want to eat, go and get your own!”
“Be obedient. Hand over the lamb chop.”
“No way, no way! Those lamb chops are mine!”
Was Aierjisi still harboring some resentment from earlier? She just wouldn’t let Carl have her food!
“Mr. Carl, I brought you two roasted lamb chops earlier; why not eat those first?”
While the two were busy squabbling, Yake stepped in, presenting the two fresh lamb chops he had brought back.
“Oh! As expected of Aier’s servant; now that’s a real keen eye!”
With two fresh lamb chops in hand, Carl quickly abandoned the feud, digging into his meal instead.
Aierjisi, not pleased, kicked Yake’s calf with her high heel.
“Ow…”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing at all.”
When Carl heard Yake groan, he thought something was wrong, but it turned out to be nothing.
【Aier, why did you kick me just now? Did I do something wrong?】
Through their contract, Yake initiated a conversation with Aierjisi, curious about the reason for that sudden kick.
【How dare you ask me? Didn’t you forget who was trying to make things awkward between us just now?】
As suspected, Aierjisi’s refusal to let Carl have her lamb chop was indeed some form of revenge for earlier.
【I don’t think your father intended to make things awkward between us; he was merely speaking the truth.】
【That’s just your opinion! My father is quite shrewd. If he told you the true function of the contract, he definitely has his own motive. You’d better be careful, or you might find yourself sold out while you help him count the coins!】
【Alright, alright, I’ll be careful from now on.】
Watching the father-daughter pair, Yake was at a loss for words. They were both women, so why did their relationship seem more like that of enemies? Or perhaps it wasn’t as close as he imagined?
After all, they had just reunited after 300 years apart. Their relationship shouldn’t have devolved to this, right? Was their emotional bond not strong to begin with, or did the Blood Clan perceive familial ties differently than humans?
【Oh, and one more thing, Yake. I must criticize you.】
【What is it?】
【Since you went to get roasted lamb chops, why didn’t you grab more? Didn’t you see mine were almost gone?】
【Come on, you still have six lamb chops left! How is that almost gone?】
【It’s just six lamb chops! If I wanted to, I could devour them all in an instant.】
【So should I go grab a few more for you now?】
【No need! I’d feel bad making you run back just for me. But next time you go for food, remember to grab some roasted lamb chops for me, okay?】
【Got it, got it, I’ll remember!】
