Chapter 1258: Directly Engaging the Headquarters
They were still hoping Lin Nuo would come up with some brilliant plan, but ended up with just two words: Run away.
“The best strategy in thirty-six tactics is to flee; this is the pinnacle of cunning.”
“Is that all? But if we retreat, where else can we go?”
Mu Yiting, standing nearby, interjected. She understood the current situation well; they had just rallied various demon realm countries to rise up against the Handa Alliance. If they retreated now, it would be a complete rout, and all their previous efforts would go to waste.
The key factor was that they had no way out!
“Let’s retreat to the Handa Alliance’s camp.”
“Huh? What do you mean by that?”
Everyone was confused. Are you suggesting we surrender and head to their camp?
“It’s simple; all their forces are focused on us. If we withdraw from here, we can flank them and strike their headquarters.”
Lin Nuo set down his teacup and spoke nonchalantly.
“They’ll definitely have heavy defenses in place, Master,” Ling Meng speculated, being quite knowledgeable about strategic deployments.
“They won’t be able to respond in time. Look at all the uprisings happening in the demon realm countries; they’ve sent a lot of troops just to suppress those. The experiment subjects are fierce, but they are few in number, and from what I can see, they’re not fully developed. As for how manageable they are, they might be worse than what Liang Zhao had set up before; they won’t dare to mass produce them.
Now they are coming after us, but they certainly wouldn’t expect us to attack their headquarters, catching them off guard.”
“But, Master, to reach their headquarters, we have to go through multiple checkpoints. It won’t be easy.”
Ling Meng added, really just curious about Lin Nuo’s thoughts, not that she was worried about their capability to succeed.
The Master must certainly have exceptional wisdom. So like a regular subordinate, she would propose her ideas and then get refuted by the Master, thus revealing his brilliant strategy.
“It’s okay; I’ve already plotted a route. Right now, all the demon realm countries are counterattacking the Handa Alliance, right? They deal with their skirmishes while we make our way around unnoticed.”
Lin Nuo pulled out a map with a trajectory drawn on it. It looked risky, but it perfectly intersected the areas where each demon realm country was engaged with the Handa Alliance. He was planning to use someone else’s sword to clear the path.
“The Handa Alliance is aware we’re here—something I intentionally spread around. You three will coordinate to make the scene appear spectacular, drawing the Handa Alliance’s attention, prompting them to deploy their most resilient experiment subjects against us.
I’m also aware of their plan; they want to create demons with high intelligence, the hearts of devils, the ferocity of beasts, and the loyalty of dogs. Demons are indeed demonic, and fierce too, but they don’t seem too bright. We won’t bother with them; let’s hit their headquarters first and see what happens.”
Lin Nuo stood up. Up until now, they hadn’t heard him speak like this. They thought this deployment was for a defensive battle, but it turned out Lin Nuo had already planned to abandon that notion and flank to attack the Handa Alliance’s headquarters.
“Are we just pawns in your game then? No wonder you said you’re the commander.”
Qin Shili complained, but she could also understand Lin Nuo. After all, as a decision-maker, the fewer people who know the plan, the better.
He didn’t inform anyone, so he hadn’t really lost out.
“What do you mean pawns? Let me ask you, was it not voluntary?” Lin Nuo countered.
“Yes.”
“Then it’s not using you.”
“Fine, since I’m willing. So how do we proceed now? Are there any secrets left?”
“None, let’s go, time to run.”
Lin Nuo smashed his teacup. If he claimed it was empty, that would surely be a lie. He had also fooled the King of Feng Ling into assisting them in distracting fire while now probably dragging a bunch of Handa Alliance troops along.
Although he made those demon realm countries shoulder the burden, it didn’t seem fair, but taking down the Handa Alliance would surely be a boon for them, right?
Revolutions need sacrifices.
Lin Nuo departed with his three female companions, leaving the Handa Alliance to sweep the village, only to find it empty.
However, they captured local demon citizens. Due to the false information Lin Nuo spread earlier, these demons were unaware. After severe torture, they “leaked” Lin Nuo’s whereabouts, directing them to the next village where they planned to ally with Feng Ling Country and a few other demon realm countries.
Thus, the Handa Alliance eagerly pursued, thinking to eradicate Lin Nuo and his companions once and for all.
……
……
At the Handa Alliance’s headquarters, elite troops were dispatched to suppress the resisting demon realm countries.
As for the headquarters, the defenses were not as strict as before. After all, the leader believed no one would dare approach the headquarters at this moment.
Moreover, to reach the headquarters, one had to pass through numerous checkpoints, which would surely trigger alarms.
At this moment, news arrived from the front lines:
“Master, our modified demons are unstoppable, Lin Nuo and his group are in retreat, and they intend to form alliances with several minor nations. We are pursuing them, and they shall soon find themselves at their wits’ end.”
“Good.”
The leader caressed the magic ring on his hand, not letting his guard down, feeling this matter wouldn’t be so straightforward.
There might be countermeasures.
Of course, the best scenario would be to have no issues.
While the headquarters’ defenses seemed lax, as long as he was there, it was the most secure defense.
He had even retained some modified demons and hadn’t sent all of them out. These modified demons had extremely high resilience; some could resist most spirit techniques, while others were immune to blades and arrows, but they hadn’t yet managed to combine both characteristics in one.
Time was needed to fully modify them, and the Sacred Realm and the human realms would have to yield to him.
He knew that Liang Zhao in the human realm was also looking to modify demons, but with outdated technology and unfavorable conditions, modifying demons was certainly more suited to the demon realm’s environment.
The frontline reporting soldier withdrew. Soon after, another one arrived with battle updates:
“Reporting! Master! Humans are approaching and attacking the headquarters!”
“Alright, I understand.”
The leader stroked the magic ring again, a sly smile creeping onto his lips.
To dare head straight for the headquarters, undetected, such humans possessed real guts.
Or perhaps, I truly need to see what this human is capable of.
The leader then personally went out, eager to find out the abilities of these approaching humans.
However, when he got outside, he saw no trace of any humans; instead, explosions occurred in many places.
Arriving at the explosion sites, he found no one around.
The two great demon masters beside the leader watched in astonishment.
“Master! This is a delayed magical bomb; they set it up in advance and triggered it remotely. So when we saw it explode, the caster had long since vanished.”
The demon master explained. Although he was well-acquainted with many tactics, the use of some human magical powers in this case baffled him, and he felt hesitant to comment further.
“Master! Look!”
Drawing the leader’s attention, they spotted Lin Nuo standing boldly at the front of heavy troops.
“That’s an illusion,” the leader said blandly.
“An illusion? But… ”
The two demon masters beside him were astonished. Was that really an illusion? It looked so lifelike!
However, as they were convinced it was an illusion, Lin Nuo directly threw a magical bomb, causing an explosion.
