One Hundred and Twenty-Sixth: Piercing
“—Fus·Ro—”
The distant ancient voice echoed in the darkness, resounding like thunder across the mountains, transforming the vast, ancient language into words and roars, uttered by Dorothy and directed at the beast that had emerged from the darkness to attack her.
With all the glass in the villa shattering simultaneously, the impact of the language struck the beast, which was less than a meter away from Dorothy, with overwhelming force. The invisible shockwave hit the beast, combined with its own forward momentum, causing mutual forces to crush its internal organs and break its bones. The entire body was twisted and deformed under the immense pressure, with its fangs bared wide and its eyes bulging almost out of their sockets.
Then, under this force, the beast was sent flying like a baseball, scattering the surrounding display cases. The direction it flew toward was where a tapestry hung on the wall, depicting the Field family’s shield. Behind the tapestry stood an armored knight holding a spear pointed forward.
Now, the tip of the knight’s spear was aimed directly at the beast’s back, with the spear’s rear end resting against the wall behind.
“Ah ah ah ah!!!!”
Screaming, the beast was pierced through the back by the knight’s spear, the tip bursting out of its chest. Despite the energy still coursing through its body, it continued to fly backward, crashing into the knight’s armor and smashing into the wall behind it. Cracks spread across the wall until it could no longer bear the impact, creating a hole. The beast, having broken through the wall, flew down a corridor and crashed into another wall before finally stopping after hitting a third wall inside a room.
This was the second release of Dorothy’s Dragon Roar Unyielding Force.
The first segment of Unyielding Force was “Fus,” meaning power. Simply roaring could release a short-range shockwave to repel the enemy. The second segment was “Ro,” meaning balance. Used after the first segment, it not only increased the power to a certain extent but also enhanced the accuracy during its release. This could focus and concentrate the dispersed shockwave, further increasing its effectiveness on a single target, while accurately controlling the direction of the impact, directing it towards where the user intended.
Using her staff for divination, Dorothy determined the direction from which Lu’e would attack. Using her watch, she determined when Lu’e would attack.
With these two pieces of information, all Dorothy needed to do was find a suitable spot to wait. She had accurately recorded the time difference and, using her Interpreter’s ability, she could count down in her mind with precise accuracy for over ten minutes.
After finding the right place, all she had to do was wait until the moment of the attack and then roar in the direction of the incoming threat.
That armored knight holding a spear, Dorothy noticed him as soon as she entered the room, so she used the precise Dragon Roar in two segments, specifically directing Lu’e towards him, impaling him through the heart. This was part of Dorothy’s plan for utilizing the space effectively.
After the roar, the clouds in the sky gradually moved, and moonlight once again poured into the room. In the spacious exhibition hall, glass was scattered everywhere, creating a scene of chaos. Dorothy picked up a gas lamp from the wall, lit it by twisting the built-in spark mechanism, and looked at the broken wall.
Then, after applying another bl**d-Eating Sigil to herself, Dorothy slowly walked over, stepping on the broken bricks. She crossed the broken wall into the corridor outside the exhibition hall, looking at the pitch-black scene beyond the second broken wall. She threw the gas lamp with a protective frame into the darkness, barely making out the scene by the light.
In the dim room, beneath the shattered third wall, a black figure lay buried in the rubble, gasping for breath weakly. Its limbs were unnaturally twisted and deformed, and its chest caved in unnaturally. A long spear protruded from its chest, bl**d flowing freely from the wound.
This was a dying “beast.” At this moment, it weakly lifted its head, looking at the small figure standing at the breach ahead.
Spitting bl**d, it spoke weakly.
“Cough… cough… cough… It’s actually such a young girl? I never expected such powerful Extraordinary Ability… such meticulous planning… cough… truly… unbelievable…”
Exhausting his last bit of strength, Lu’e weakly said. Meanwhile, Dorothy silently pulled out a pistol from her waist, aiming it at the immobile beast. Seeing this, Lu’e, despite his severe injuries, urgently pleaded.
“Cough… cough… Wait… Don’t k*ll me, I’m useful to you, I swear I am! I know many secrets, I’m being forced by someone else… I…”
“Bang bang bang bang!!”
Without listening to Lu’e’s pleas, Dorothy pulled the trigger, emptying the magazine. With only a sliver of life left, Lu’e lost consciousness after two more shots to the head and fell dead, eyes wide open.
After d*ath, Lu’e’s Beast Transformation dissipated. Dorothy watched as he quickly returned to human form. To ensure safety, Dorothy used the Corpse Puppet Ring to control Lu’e. This time, the control succeeded, and Dorothy made Lu’e’s body start moving, though due to severe injuries, he struggled to move with broken bones.
Out of curiosity, Dorothy attempted to control Lu’e to transform again, but there was no response. After this attempt, Dorothy realized that her Corpse Puppet Ring could not inherit the Extraordinary Ability of other Extraordinary Beings’ corpses; they remained normal human bodies.
“It seems the plan to create a Beast Transformation Corpse Puppet has failed.”
With a hint of disappointment, Dorothy ended Lu’e’s Corpse Puppet state.
Then, she picked up the gas lamp from the ground and lit the lights in the house. She was drawn to what she saw next.
This was an exhibition room for portraits. On the walls were vivid oil paintings and a few photographs, mostly featuring people, with some landscapes. These portraits depicted men and women, and from the names below them, most were members of the Field family, including past patriarchs. Dorothy recognized one of the portraits as that of Viscount Field, whom she had seen at the charity event. According to the name, she now knew he was Gary Field.
The most eye-catching painting in the room was a large oil painting depicting an armored knight holding a spear pointed forward. This pose was identical to the one Dorothy had seen earlier in the weapons exhibition room. Looking at the spear that had pierced through Lu’e’s chest, Dorothy confirmed it matched the painting exactly. She read the description below the portrait:
“Arlyn Field, the first Viscount Field.”
‘No wonder that armor was posed like that…’
Looking at the portrait, Dorothy felt relieved. Then, she glanced around the dilapidated mansion, finally looking at Lu’e, who had been pierced through the chest. She sighed.
“This can be considered avenging your family’s enemies…”
