<Chapter 1262> 1262. Dark Moon
The carriage entered the X District. I gazed outside through the carriage window.
As befitting the area with the worst reputation for safety, the atmosphere was extremely dark. Broken roads, collapsed walls, and factories that had ceased operations stretched out before me. The wind blowing through the window carried a mix of rust and sea smells.
A long time ago, it’s said that the X District was a bustling area. Freight ships came and went dozens of times a day, and there were many laborers working in the X District.
But when a new port opened in the D District, the X District fell into decline.
“Sir, I apologize, but I don’t wish to go any further.”
The coachman spoke, his tense voice filled with unease and fear. The X District is one of the areas in Neo London notorious for its poor security. It’s common for civilians who wander in carelessly to end up bleeding.
Instead of protesting, I extended my pocket-watch smartwatch to him. He quickly made the payment.
“I understand. I’m already grateful you brought me this far. I’ll use another carriage on the way back.”
“There won’t be any carriages heading into the X District. Call one from the W District.”
“Thanks for the advice. It’s helpful.”
“I’ll take my leave now.”
The carriage departed.
I walked down the streets of the X District, relying on my knowledge from the original game. The broken roads were slightly inconvenient.
“Yuria was right—just changing the brand of my suit makes the citizens of Neo London respect me more.”
Yuria is incredible. I thought about her as I walked.
At some point, I began to feel someone’s gaze watching me. They seemed to be observing me, but there was no intent to harm, so I ignored it and kept walking.
I entered a dark alleyway. Even the only bright spot in this district—the sky—was barely visible here.
I walked through the alley for quite a while, mentally mapping it out.
“Hey.”
A man appeared. He’d been tailing me.
“What is it?”
“Are you looking for the labor office? I’ll guide you. Follow me.”
I followed him. After being led around various ways, we arrived at a building with a sign that read ‘X Labor Office.’ Without hesitation, the man entered the labor office. The first floor was full of chairs and tables. With the empty bottles scattered across the tables, it was hard to tell if this place was a bar or a labor office.
A few men sitting at the tables quietly watched me, their guard raised.
“Rose! I’ve brought someone in! Don’t know if they’re a customer or a worker, but he’s a pretty well-dressed gentleman!”
The man who guided me shouted.
“Come up to the second-floor office! Michael, stay downstairs!”
A woman’s voice boomed from upstairs. She certainly has a powerful voice.
“I advise against causing trouble… Go ahead and head up.”
I felt an impulse to smack this arrogant guy’s head.
But thanks to the wizard’s cold rationality, I suppressed the urge. Besides, it would’ve been regrettable for me, and his attitude wasn’t even worth getting upset over.
“How much for the guidance fee?”
“Buy me a bottle of alcohol later.”
He nodded, and I headed upstairs. There were three doors; I opened the one labeled “Office” and stepped inside.
Tap, tap-tap-tap-tap.
A woman sat typing at a computer.
Her hair was tied up in a neat bun. She wore a wine-colored blouse and jeans. Her right arm was mechanical, and she had quite a voluptuous chest. The top two buttons of her blouse were undone, revealing her cleavage, and a black bra strap peeked out. A black rose tattoo adorned the side of her neck.
She stood up from her seat and gestured toward the sofa.
“Please sit comfortably. What brings you to our labor office?”
“I need work.”
“So, not a customer but a worker, huh?”
Blatantly disappointed, she sat back at her desk. She pointed to the side with her finger. There was a water cooler and some instant coffee.
“The workers help themselves. Help yourself.”
“I don’t eat cheap stuff.”
“Ah, so you do have standards. Welcome, oh mighty one.”
TATATATATATATAT!
The sound of rapid keyboard typing echoed cheerfully.
I quietly took a seat without rushing her.
If you want to do business in Neo London, you must appear gentlemanly. Even if it’s just surface-level.
After 10 minutes of silence, Rose sighed first. She removed her hands from the keyboard and spoke to me.
“You see, our agency doesn’t have jobs fit for gentlemen. And gentlemen wouldn’t do such low-grade labor anyway.”
“I already know this isn’t just a regular worker dispatch agency.”
“Yeah, what’s done is done. I won’t deny it. But I don’t broker requests for just anyone. Do you have any recommendations?”
“None.”
“Great. Your trustworthiness just plummeted. Brokering relies on trust. Convince me why I should broker a request for you.”
“You need capable workers too, right?”
“I’ve never seen you before. Which means you’re new to London. Who would trust a rookie?”
“5th Rank Mage.”
“What?”
“5th Rank Mage. I believe we can build trust gradually.”
“…Really? Hard to believe.”
Rose narrowed her eyes and stared at me.
I activated Astral. My presence intensified dramatically. Rose gripped the desk tightly with her mechanical arm.
“Whether you’re 5th or 4th rank, I don’t know… but you’re definitely not ordinary. What’s your name?”
“Eugene Meyer.”
“Age and address?”
“Do I need to tell that too?”
“Not necessary. Why did you come to our agency? That’s something you must tell me.”
“You seem surprised that a 5th Rank Mage would come to a labor agency on his own.”
“Are you joking? 5th Rank Mages are talents even big corporations want. If you went straight to the Neo Round Table Parliament, their clerks would be overjoyed to give you work.”
“But I’m not into that kind of thing.”
“Hmm. What kind of request are you looking for?”
“Something that can make money quickly.”
“Any deal-breakers? Surely you don’t mean you dislike killing?”
“Even assassination requests are fine. However, serving nobles is an absolute no. I might end up killing them instead.”
“Hmm. Other brokers could handle what you’re asking for. Why come to me specifically?”
“I heard you interfere less than others. Also, you don’t hold people back when they quit.”
“True. No place treats workers as freely as us. In exchange, our commission is higher – 20%.”
It was more expensive by at least 5%.
Of course, I already knew this.
I know who Rose really is. X Agency is much safer than other places. Worth it even with the high fees.
“Elementalist, right? Which element do you mainly use?”
“Lightning. I can manage others decently too.”
“Hmm. Are you from the Mage Tower? Or the Mage Association?”
“Neither.”
“Don’t feel like talking? Fine. There is a request actually… Want it? Just go to the power plant and use your lightning magic. Simple job.”
I stared blankly at Rose, speechless. Rose shamelessly sipped on her cold instant coffee.
“You want me to do something 1st Rank Mages usually do?”
“Lately there’s been chaos due to electricity shortages. You’ll get at least 50,000 credits, plus bonuses depending on the power output. And 50,000 credits isn’t pocket change.”
“My mage pride is taking a beating.”
“When making money, pride is just an obstacle. Not interested? If you don’t want to, fine.”
“…I’ll do it. Where should I go?”
I sighed and said.
Starting with such a trivial request is exactly like the original story.
Rose wants to judge if I’m trustworthy based on how I handle this job.
W district’s Low Power Plant. They converted the nuclear power plant to a mana power plant 70 years ago.”
“Is mana running low?”
“Beats me. Probably the Round Table Parliament decided to conduct another pointless experiment and is hogging electricity. I’ll contact them beforehand. Just say you’re from X Agency when you arrive.”
“Understood.”
I stood up.
The basic pay of 50,000 credits isn’t small change, as she said.
“Please do your best, 5th-Class Mage Sir. The full strength of Neo London rests on your shoulders!”
Rose approached the man standing on the rooftop of the building. The man in the coat waved as soon as he saw Rose. He was the detective Rose had hired.
“Did you come to supervise my work?”
“I had no choice but to come in person since you haven’t been reporting. How’s it going?”
Rose pulled out a telescope from her coat and held it up to her eye, looking at the old apartment the detective had been watching.
“Why make things difficult for yourself? You could just set up a camera to monitor it.”
“If I install cameras carelessly, I might get sued.”
“…Did you get sued?”
“Once before. Had to pay one million credits.”
Current time: 6:00 AM. The weather was chilly.
“Yuzhin Meyer. A 3rd-Class Citizen. Turns out his identity is newly created.”
“He said he recently came to London. Where’s he from?”
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure that out. But I did confirm that Bilshtain Corporation was involved in creating his identity.”
“…The Bilshtain from the Empire? That’s some big shot. Anything else?”
“Nothing. It’s too clean. Even with Bilshtain’s involvement, it’s suspiciously clean.”
“Clean is good. At least there doesn’t seem to be any obvious issues on the surface. Hmm?”
The door of the house opened, and someone came out—a maid. A maid with silver hair holding a broom began cleaning around the gate.
“There’s the maid. You said he didn’t have much money, yet he can afford a maid? Must be living comfortably.”
“In my opinion, the reason he doesn’t have much money might be because of this maid.”
“…Maid services are expensive, sure. But enough to trouble a 5th-Class Mage?”
“Do you know how much appearance matters when hiring a maid? She looks like she could easily earn hundreds of thousands of credits per month on the moon, even without any special abilities.”
“Hmm… A 5th-Class Mage and a beautiful maid… There must be something we’re missing about them… Whaat?!”
Rose jumped in surprise. She almost dropped the telescope without realizing it.
“Rose? What’s wrong?”
“…I made eye contact with the maid.”
“That’s a bad joke. We’re 3km away from her. She just happened to look up.”
“…Is that so?”
“If she really noticed us, she wouldn’t just stand there. Look, she’s focused on sweeping the yard.”
“You’re right. I must have imagined it.”
“Rose. How much longer do I have to keep doing this boring surveillance?”
“Just three more days of suffering, please.”
Rose turned around.
It has been ten days since Yuria started working as a maid.
Yuria is almost perfect at her job, but there’s something off about her.
Last time, she wore her maid uniform incorrectly and ended up working in just a shirt. Even when I offered her clothes or suggested buying new ones, she insisted it would only take half a day. I tried very hard to act gentlemanly.
Yuria surprisingly has some clumsy moments. For instance, while cleaning, her skirt flips up, revealing her behind, or she does embarrassing cleaning moves. Sometimes while cooking, she gets soaked, subtly showing off her figure.
And every two days, she mistakenly enters my room and sleeps in my bed. She says it happens when she returns from the bathroom and absentmindedly enters my room instead of hers. Though she apologizes, I don’t find it particularly bothersome.
Yuria doesn’t close doors properly. Maybe it’s some childhood trauma, but she always leaves the door slightly ajar. Thankfully, she manages the front door and windows thoroughly.
The problem is, she doesn’t close the bathroom door either, leading to awkward situations where I’ve walked in on her using the restroom.
Three days ago, while passing by her room, I accidentally saw her masturbating. Her masturbation was unexpectedly lewd. Lying on the bed, she lifted her lower body and aggressively rubbed herself with her hand. I quietly watched her masturbate, holding my breath.
Lately, strange sexual incidents involving Yuria keep happening. Nowadays, even slight stimulation makes my penis erect, causing me embarrassment. I’ve been considering visiting a brothel to relieve my sexual frustration.
And tonight. As I slept, I woke up feeling an odd chill.
Yuria, wearing purple underwear, was taking off my clothes.
“Yuria…?!”
“I’m sorry, Master. I simply couldn’t hold back anymore. I wanted you to take me, but I underestimated your self-control.”
Before I could react, she pulled down my underwear.
Snap!
My erect penis sprang out like a spring and slapped her cheek.
“Oh my…”
