Chapter 1264: Market Date
Qin Shili and Mu Yiting weren’t pleased at all. “Do you even understand the rules, newbie? How can you hog Lin Nuo all to yourself?”
Neither of them was granted such treatment, yet this newcomer got it.
Just one personality, and they had a problem with it.
Still, they had to respect Lin Nuo’s decision; it was all for the greater good.
“It’s only temporary. We can’t be sure how much potential she has yet. Don’t worry, I’ll find a balance, and I promise to compensate you later.”
Lin Nuo tried to reassure them. If things went haywire inside, they’d all be doomed eventually.
Of course, they remained rational; though they complained, they agreed.
“Then you need to tell me about your situation. After all, if you’re hiding things from your old flame and spilling your guts to the newcomer, that’s a recipe for disaster,” Qin Shili warned coolly. It sounded like a warning, but deep down she didn’t want anything bad to happen to him.
“I will tell you, but for now, you both should step back.”
“Lin Nuo, you don’t doubt her identity at all? What if she’s sent by the Handa Alliance? Not that I doubt your capabilities, but you could be in potential danger alone with her.”
Mu Yiting expressed her worries, genuinely looking out for Lin Nuo.
“Don’t worry about that; I’m confident. Right now, we have no leads, so why not take a gamble? Plus, I’m not so easy to take down.”
Lin Nuo was unfazed. The newcomers’ aura, way of speaking, and anger didn’t seem fabricated at all.
What stood out was the spark of desire in her eyes; she wanted to create beautiful memories with him.
That was hard to fake.
After a while, noticing Ling Meng was about to come out, Lin Nuo left Qin Shili and Mu Yiting to greet her.
Ling Meng emerged in a new purple dress, dark purple stockings enveloping her legs. Her makeup was neither too heavy nor too light, strikingly beautiful, radiating a queenly aura of the demonic realm.
She didn’t cling to Lin Nuo like her original personality; instead, she respectfully greeted him, seeing him as the supreme king of demonhood, displaying perfect decorum.
“I shouldn’t look bad, right? I won’t shame you, will I?”
Ling Meng twirled lightly to show off her outfit to Lin Nuo.
“Not at all! You’re naturally beautiful; now you’ve only added a touch of glamour. It’s me who might embarrass you.”
“You’re joking! How could you ever embarrass me? Can’t we at least have some physical contact? Do you have to avoid me this much?”
“What kind of physical contact are you thinking of?”
Lin Nuo intentionally moved a bit closer, but he remained on guard; being overly cautious just wasn’t his style.
“At the very least, can we hold hands? Are you worried I’ll eat you?”
“Not a worry at all; that’s fine.”
Lin Nuo extended his hand—just a hand-hold, nothing major.
Or maybe, this was a good opportunity to get closer to her. While being cautious was essential, being too timid wasn’t his style.
“Mm-hm.”
Ling Meng’s face broke into a smile as she quickly held Lin Nuo’s hand.
Holding the hand of the man she liked for the first time made her feel like she had captured her whole world in that grip.
“Is there that kind of cake in this market?” Lin Nuo asked.
“Maybe.”
“Then let’s go.”
Lin Nuo pulled Ling Meng’s hand, leading her to the market. The war had reached a ceasefire stage, and the cities of Feng Ling Country were slowly returning to their former states. Many demons, whose countries had perished, were also seeking refuge in Feng Ling Country.
“Over there! I can’t believe we found it so quickly!”
They arrived at a stall, spotting the cake Ling Meng had mentioned before.
At first glance, it did look similar to the Meat Floss Cake, but it was a hefty piece, large enough to equal three Meat Floss Cakes.
“There are drinks here too; that would be perfect to go with it.”
Ling Meng smiled, pulling out some common currency from Feng Ling Country and handing it to the stall boss. There was a small table nearby for them to sit together.
“Honestly, you don’t need to hold hands while eating.”
Lin Nuo remarked, even couples wouldn’t go that far, would they?
Were they that lovey-dovey?
“I feel at ease this way. I don’t want to let go. Can we just stay like this? If it’s inconvenient for you to eat, I can feed you. I just hope you won’t let go, okay?”
“It’s just a bit odd; whatever, I’m fine with it.”
Lin Nuo didn’t dwell on it; he still had one free hand.
He took a bite, and it tasted slightly like a Meat Floss Cake, though a bit saltier. Overall, it was more of a budget version, but still decent.
It would have been even better with cold demonic water.
After a sip, Lin Nuo was pleasantly surprised—it indeed tasted somewhat like cold demonic water.
Of course, it felt like a watered-down version.
Wow, so cold demonic water is popular in the Demon Realm, and Mu Yiting just conjured it up with bits of subconsciousness?
Very likely.
Oh well, whatever, as long as he could drink it.
It was a bit cold, a great drink to cool off.
However…
It wasn’t stimulating enough; there was nothing that kept him wanting to drink more. It still felt lacking.
“Can we share the same drink?” Ling Meng asked.
“Why share a drink?”
“Because it can deepen our bond. Um, it’s something I learned through the original consciousness.”
“That’s too deliberate; it’s unnecessary. I don’t like doing all that frivolous stuff.”
Lin Nuo rejected her suggestion outright. No need for all that mess.
“Alright, maybe I’m asking for too much. I just think my time here is short, so I hope for more chances to be close to you. If I were to disappear, we might never see each other again.”
Ling Meng took a sip of her drink, her tone laced with sadness that felt genuine.
“How do you know you’ll completely disappear? Is it certain?”
Lin Nuo replied lightly, taking another sip of his drink.
“I can’t coexist with the original personality. So, my existence is actually detrimental to you. Once I exist, you’ll no longer see your original disciple.”
“Isn’t there a possibility, maybe one day you would separate? I know some people have succeeded.”
Lin Nuo continued, referencing success stories he’d heard in comics, as he hadn’t seen any in reality.
Not in the twenty-first century; a separation would be like tearing apart one’s whole being.
“I hope so. After all, I keep feeling like a sinner. To be honest, if you wanted to reunite with your original disciple, you could do that right now. But I’ve selfishly prevented her from coming out.”
“I can understand that; considering it’s not often you get the chance to step out.”
Lin Nuo continued, still trying to figure out how they communicated internally.
