Chapter 129: Staff Sword
After sorting out her finances and accumulating spirituality, Dorothy did not stop and continued organizing. Next came the spiritual storage items.
Due to divination and appraisal, Dorothy’s spiritual storage items, especially those related to “Lantern,” were depleted very quickly. The five “Lantern” gold coins she had obtained from Brandon were already used up after several days of divination and appraisal. After the events of the past two days, Dorothy realized that she needed a large amount of “Lantern” spirituality. The reason was simple: divination was incredibly useful.
Fortunately, Dorothy found some spiritual storage items on the mentor and in the Field family. After distributing a bit of the less important storage items to Vania, she kept most of them. She intentionally kept all the “Lantern” storage items.
She now had a total of four “Lantern” gold coins, two “Shadow” silver coins, and one “Stone” stone coin. Adding what she had left over previously, Dorothy’s current reserves of storage items were four “Lantern,” two “Shadow,” and two “Stone.”
However, the usage scope of storage items was limited, primarily for rituals and charging. Except for “Cup” storage items, which could be absorbed by eating due to the nature of “Cup” spirituality, other types of spiritual storage items were not edible.
Next came sigils. Dorothy acquired a large number of bl**d-Eating Sigils, roughly twenty or so. She didn’t count them carefully, but she knew she would never lack bl**d-Eating Sigils in the future.
Then there was another Frenzied Banquet Sigil and two sigils with “Shadow” attributes, whose functions were unknown. Dorothy planned to ask Audric about these later.
Continuing, there were the two extraordinary items belonging to Dorothy: a ruby staff and a black candle. Dorothy set up the appraisal ritual, preparing to place both items on the ritual platform for appraisal. When adding the “Lantern” storage item required for the ritual, Dorothy felt a bit pained, but she ultimately decided to use some “Lantern” to appraise these two items.
After all, if Dorothy wanted to use these extraordinary items effectively, she needed detailed information. Although “Lantern” was precious, it had to be used when necessary.
Dorothy took out the newly acquired “Lantern” gold coin and began the appraisal ritual. First, she placed the black candle in the ritual. Immediately, she identified the corresponding information.
…
Darklight Black Candle
After infusing it with “Shadow” spirituality, this item will emit a silver flame. Blowing out the flame can extinguish any form of light within a certain range. The more “Shadow” infused, the wider the extinguishing range and the stronger the intensity. The upper limit is 5 points.
…
‘This thing is specifically designed to extinguish lights. It seemed to have been used to turn off all the lights in the Field mansion, creating a dark environment.’
Looking at the identified information, Dorothy thought that the ability was straightforward but wondered if it could extinguish lights created by extraordinary abilities.
After completing the appraisal, Dorothy removed the black candle and started appraising the next item, the red ruby staff.
Placing it in the ritual array, Dorothy consumed another gold coin and then identified the staff’s information.
…
Heart-Eating Staff Sword
Once inserted into a living body, this item can draw out “Cup.” The weaker and more powerless the victim, the higher the efficiency of drawing out “Cup.” The drawn “Cup” is stored inside the staff, with an upper limit of 7 points “Cup.”
Once per day, when the “Cup” storage is full, if the holder suffers a fatal injury, the item will consume all stored “Cup” to restore the injury. If multiple fatal injuries occur simultaneously or the damage is too severe, it cannot restore the injuries.
…
‘This… is the extraordinary item that revived the mentor once. It can restore a single fatal injury to the holder. What a good thing.’
Holding the staff, Dorothy brightened up as she thought, who wouldn’t want an extra safety net? This item was arguably the biggest gain from Dorothy’s mission.
‘This thing is called a Staff Sword, and it has the effect of drawing out “Cup” after being inserted into a living body. This means…’
While thinking, Dorothy tried pulling out the staff, and sure enough, a slender, shimmering sword emerged.
‘This… can also be used as a weapon… although it requires a lot of spirituality. It needs 7 points of “Cup” to be used once. But if it can truly save lives, it’s worth it. I wonder where this guy got such a good thing.’
‘So this thing… is clearly what Bill used to drain Kolif. I couldn’t tell it was there before, hidden in its scabbard. If I had known earlier, I would have tried to see if I could drain some corpses’ “Cup” in the mansion.’
Looking at the Staff Sword, Dorothy muttered, suddenly noticing some inscriptions on the tip of the blade. Upon closer inspection, she found a short phrase.
“Holding Ceremony of the Placenta”
‘Placenta? Could this be the Placenta Sect that Audric mentioned before, a large “Cup” society? Is this Staff Sword from there?’
Seeing the inscription on the Staff Sword, Dorothy couldn’t help but think. She had heard about the Placenta Sect from Audric a few times. They seemed to have connections with many “Cup” societies in the secret world, just like the Crimson Eucharist Dorothy encountered.
For a moment, Dorothy developed a slight interest in the Placenta Sect. She estimated that it might be a powerful and influential “Cup” society. Considering the nature of the Crimson Eucharist, Dorothy believed she must be wary of the Placenta Sect as well.
After appraising the extraordinary items, Dorothy sheathed the staff and put it away. Then she took out the last of her spoils, two secret transmissions.
Originally, Dorothy planned to read one herself and exchange it with Vania later. However, since Vania couldn’t bring these things back easily, Dorothy kept them first. Once she returned to Tivyan, she would send them to Vania.
Given this, Dorothy could read both secret transmissions at once.
Opening the first secret transmission, titled “Adventure Log of the Voodoo Forest,” a logbook-style secret transmission, Dorothy started reading quickly using the Seer’s ability. It described an expedition team’s journey into a mysterious forest, where they met a series of terrifying events, leading to the d*ath of all members. The protagonist and author, under a curse, transformed into a plant.
The second secret transmission was titled “Residue of the Wolf Sacrifice,” found in the ascension array in the chapel. It contained many methods of worship for the deity “Gluttonous Wolf,” including hunting and gluttony. It detailed the ascension ceremonies from Apprentice rank “Thirster” to White Chalk Tier “Werewolf,” along with precautions. Dorothy suspected that the mentor’s ascension ceremony might have followed this book.
After quickly reading both books, Dorothy used the system to estimate their spiritual values. “Adventure Log of the Voodoo Forest” had 3 points “Cup” and 1 point “Enlightenment.” “Residue of the Wolf Sacrifice” involved deeper mysteries, with 7 points “Cup” and 3 points “Enlightenment,” totaling 10 points “Cup.”
Just as Dorothy prepared to extract the spirituality, she realized she already had 11 points “Cup.” Now, with an additional 10 points, she had a total of 21 points, exceeding her current maximum storage capacity of 20 points. Direct extraction would cause an overflow of 1 point.
‘No wonder it was the head of the Eucharist’s hideout. Getting so many “Cup” points at once is overwhelming… Since that’s the case.’
Thinking, Dorothy picked up the staff beside her and injected her own “Cup” into it, filling it with 7 points. Under Dorothy’s infusion of spirituality, the top red gemstone of the staff emitted a gentle red glow.
After filling the staff, Dorothy extracted the spirituality from the two secret transmissions. In the end, she accumulated 14 points “Cup” internally, and the Heart-Eating Staff Sword was fully charged.
“OK, finally done. That’s it for today. Ugh, time to rest…”
Yawning, Dorothy packed up her things, washed in the bathroom, and fell asleep quickly on her bed, exhausted.
