One Hundred Thirty-One: Secrets
“Higher-rank Extraordinary Beings…”
In the cramped office, James listened to Gregor’s speculations and couldn’t help frowning as he muttered, “Based on past experiences, we speculated that the leader of the Holy Communion should be a Black Tier Extraordinary Being. If they were higher than Black Tier… then at least they would be a White Tier.”
White Tier Extraordinary Beings were roughly equivalent to the elders or leaders of most medium-sized secret societies. In the entire Prit Kingdom An Yin Bureau system, only some key district chiefs and a few captains stationed in the capital Tiwyan General Bureau were White Tier beings. Altogether, there were only over ten such individuals. The other seventy or so district bureau chiefs were mostly Black Tier, including James himself.
If there really was a White Tier Extraordinary Being coming to Igewent this time…
“Gregor… Who do you think is leading this attack?” While thinking, James asked Gregor. However, he already had an answer in his heart.
“Mr. James, in my opinion, this case and the previous ones have strong similarities and connections. It can almost certainly be attributed to the Rosy Cross Society,” Gregor said. They noticed Field’s problem because of the familiar flower delivery. So when they saw the crime scene at the villa, the An Yin Bureau almost immediately identified who did it.
“Rosy Cross… It seems they came specifically to target the Holy Communion here. I didn’t expect this previously unheard-of society to send a White Tier Extraordinary Being over. Within just a few months, the entire Holy Communion has been wiped out by them,” James continued, sitting in his chair with a hint of emotion.
“It seems our previous judgment about them had significant errors. A society with a White Tier Extraordinary Being… it wouldn’t be anything ordinary.”
“Yes, fortunately, their target is clear and doesn’t conflict with us…” Gregor said, also thinking that it was fortunate they had maintained restraint during their encounter with a member of the Rosy Cross at Buck’s mansion, avoiding any conflict that could have had severe consequences.
‘Actually, we all thought that man might just be bluffing, and we were considering testing him. But now, it’s good we held back. Otherwise, the bureau might have suffered unnecessary heavy losses due to impulsive actions.’
Gregor thought, feeling grateful for stopping Turner and maintaining caution at the time, believing that his action might have saved the entire team.
“You managed to hold back well back then, but now I’m also a bit curious. What secret does this small Holy Communion hide that attracted such a society to send a White Tier Extraordinary Being to this small place like Igewent?” James continued. At this moment, Gregor seemed to recall something and immediately responded.
“Mr. James, we actually found a hidden secret room in the villa. Inside, we not only discovered the altar and the secret transmission and spirituality storage items, but also found this thing on the wall of the secret room.”
As he spoke, Gregor took out a black-and-white photo. The photo showed a wall with a symbol drawn on it.
This was an inverted triangle symbol, within which a few strokes depicted an abstract, curling fetus-like figure, with the head of the fetus being that of a wolf rather than a human.
Looking at the symbol in the photo, James’s gaze became more serious. After examining the photo for a moment, he slowly spoke.
“This is… the mark of the Placenta Sect… No, if the head of the fetus is drawn as a wolf, this should be the Wolf bl**d Association.”
“Wolf bl**d Association?” Hearing James’s words, Gregor asked curiously, and James continued to explain.
“This is an important branch of the Placenta Sect. The Placenta Sect worships the Cup Mother, who has many divine offspring. Due to different worship of these offspring, different branches have emerged within the sect. The Wolf bl**d Association, which worships the Gluttonous Wolf, is one of them. The Wolf bl**d Association is an important part of the Placenta Sect.”
“In the Secret World… the origin of the Beast Transformation heritage is basically from the Wolf bl**d Association. However, as it developed, most of the heritages have since become independent and have little connection with the Wolf bl**d Association. And this Lue is still keeping the symbol of the Wolf bl**d Association. Does this mean he is not a wild card but a direct member of the Wolf bl**d Association?”
James speculated. Although he was only a Black Tier Extraordinary Being, he had worked in the An Yin Bureau for decades and had some experiences. Hearing James’s speculation, Gregor frowned and spoke.
“A member of the Wolf bl**d Association? But… how could a large society like this come to Igewent? Does he have any special purpose?”
“I don’t know. Perhaps he just split off to form his own faction, or there may be other reasons we are unaware of… Personally, I lean towards the latter. Only if Lue harbors some special secret would attract the Rosy Cross,” James continued pondering. Listening to James’s words, Gregor recalled the words of the Rosy Cross member back then.
The man had hinted that the waters of the Holy Communion were deep, involving deeper mysteries. At the time, it always felt like a bluff. Now, if the Holy Communion truly involves the Wolf bl**d Association and even the Placenta Sect, saying the waters are deep makes perfect sense.
James was also wondering whether the Rosy Cross was truly fighting against the Wolf bl**d Association or even the Placenta Sect. Destroying the Holy Communion and killing Lue in Igewent might just be a microcosm of their conflict. Perhaps a larger-scale war is unfolding on more secret battlefields.
Regardless, the once obscure Rosy Cross secret society can no longer be ignored. It could be on par with the Wolf bl**d Association or even the Placenta Sect. James planned to send a telegram to the General Bureau immediately, reporting all recent events related to the Holy Communion and the Rosy Cross, along with his speculations.
During the subsequent time, Gregor briefly reported to James some details of the villa investigation. At the end of the report, James nodded and said:
“Alright, I understand the situation. You’ve all worked hard. You should go home and rest early today. We don’t need to rush the next investigation too much.”
“Thank you, Mr. James!” Hearing he could leave earlier, Gregor said happily. Just as he was about to say goodbye and leave, he asked again:
“By the way, Mr. James, how are the children from the Orphanage of Mercy doing?”
Hearing Gregor’s words, James was taken aback and replied slowly.
“They’re not doing well… Among the seven children, although there are no major problems on the surface, after our tests, we found that they all suffered from Poison Recognition.
“The last one is fine, with only mild Poison Recognition effects. We’ve cleared most of it for her. The key issue is the first six. They have long-term severe Poison Recognition and drug erosion, and their symptoms are still very serious. It will be extremely difficult for them to recover.”
