Chapter 14: Zombie Dog – The Gate of Apocalypse Rebirth – Full Book Online Novel
Zombie Dog!
The gate was half-open, as if waiting for them to enter, but the inside was unclear.
Once in the yard, feeling relatively safe, everyone’s tense nerves relaxed, and with that relaxation, they all felt too weak to stand.
Zhang Chao, with his black-rimmed glasses, slumped to the ground like a pile of mud: “Ah~ I can’t go on!”
The others also couldn’t hold on and sat down to rest.
Cheng Ming also fell to the ground, clutching his chest and breathing heavily.
Jia Daozhang simply sprawled out, not wanting to move a finger. Being older, his stamina wasn’t as good as the younger ones, and he felt like his lungs were about to burst.
Reflecting on the morning’s events, Jia Daozhang felt a wave of fear. They should have been sleeping in the garage. Yesterday, out of five teams sent to search for supplies, only three returned. This wasn’t unusual, so they didn’t think much of it and went to sleep as usual.
But at around 5 a.m., while everyone was still asleep, the garage door was knocked.
It was the two teams that hadn’t returned last night, saying they had encountered a zombie horde and hid until now.
The person on duty, being drowsy, did a quick check and let them in.
However, two of them had been bitten by zombies and didn’t say anything. When the screams woke everyone, the warehouse was in chaos. In the panic, someone opened the door, and everyone rushed out, only to run into a nearby zombie horde, leading to a chase.
Initially, only a few were bitten in the garage, which housed hundreds. If they had stayed calm, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad.
“We just ran, didn’t grab anything, how unlucky,” Xiao Yunyun said gloomily.
Yang Wei, with his crew cut, said, “Surviving is enough. I really thought I was going to die there.”
Huang Mengyao shivered, recalling her deep despair and fear, and couldn’t help but glance at Gu Ning, who was sitting cross-legged by the flower bed not far away.
Gu Ning found a corner to sit, relaxing her trembling legs. She had been on the move all night and chased by zombies for over an hour this morning, killing countless zombies. The tension had kept her going, but now, relaxing, she felt weak all over, even moving a finger was difficult.
“Are you hurt?!”
Suddenly, a woman’s voice exclaimed.
All eyes turned to Huang Mengyao, who was looking at Gu Ning in shock, and then everyone followed her gaze to Gu Ning.
Gu Ning looked down at her right hand, which was a bloody mess, but she felt no pain, only numbness.
Zhang Chao instinctively shouted, “Were you bitten by a zombie?!”
His words instantly made the atmosphere in the yard strange.
“No. Cut by a knife,” Gu Ning said slowly, glancing at him. The injury happened when her knife got stuck in a zombie’s shoulder blade, and she had to pull it out by gripping the blade.
After saying that, Gu Ning struggled to open her backpack with her left hand, took out a bottle of alcohol, unscrewed it, and was about to pour it on her wound.
“Let me,” Huang Mengyao suddenly came over, taking the alcohol bottle. She glanced at Gu Ning, then quickly looked down, softly saying, “I took a nursing course in school.”
Gu Ning looked at her in surprise, then nodded, “Thank you.”
Gu Ning’s medical supplies were well-prepared. Huang Mengyao, though puzzled, said nothing and quietly helped clean the wound, being very careful with the alcohol-soaked cotton ball.
She now seemed very different from the sharp-tongued person Gu Ning first met.
The alcohol accidentally seeped into the wound, causing a sharp burning pain. Gu Ning frowned. After cleaning the blood, a deep, finger-length wound was revealed. Jia Daozhang, watching, was horrified. The wound wasn’t fresh; she had been killing zombies with that bloody hand. He couldn’t help but look at Gu Ning’s expression, but she didn’t even whimper, only slightly frowned from the alcohol’s sting.
Cheng Ming, watching, frowned deeply, looking more pained than Gu Ning.
“The wound is too deep, it needs stitches at a hospital,” Huang Mengyao said seriously after bandaging the wound. Then she realized the current situation—where was there a hospital now? It was a battlefield everywhere.
Gu Ning tried moving her hand, feeling the pain from the wound. She frowned; her right hand injury greatly affected her.
“Hey, Gu Ning. Where have you been these days? You disappeared after we woke up. Thought you vanished,” Jia Daozhang suddenly said.
Gu Ning’s eyes flickered slightly, then she said casually, “I was in a hurry to find someone, so I left first.” She stood up, looking at her severely damaged knife, frowning.
“I’m going inside to find some food, starving!” Yang Wei, having recovered, got up and headed for the door.
Just then, Gu Ning caught a whiff of decay amidst the strong osmanthus fragrance.
“Watch out!”
Gu Ning shouted a warning!
But it was too late.
A gray-yellow shadow suddenly darted out from the open hall, biting Yang Wei’s thigh and throwing him down with a fierce jerk! Yang Wei let out a piercing scream as he was dragged to the ground!
Everyone, who had been sitting or lying around, stood up in shock, staring at the creature that had taken Yang Wei down!
Jia Daozhang exclaimed, “What the hell is that?!”
It was a half-human-sized giant wolf dog!
More accurately, a zombie wolf dog.
Its fur was mostly gone, and its head had little flesh left.
After dragging Yang Wei down, the wolf dog tore a chunk of flesh from his thigh, swallowing it amidst Yang Wei’s agonized screams. Then it raised its green-glowing eyes, staring at the horrified people in the yard, letting out an excited growl from its rotting throat—its mouth full of blood, looking utterly terrifying.
Even Gu Ning’s face turned grim, instinctively gripping her knife, watching the zombie dog tensely, not daring to move.
The zombie wolf dog’s green eyes locked onto them, and no one dared to move, feeling that any slight motion would provoke it to pounce.
From its speed in taking down Yang Wei, it was terrifying; they had no confidence in outrunning it before it bit them!
Meanwhile, Yang Wei was still struggling, screaming in pain, calling for help, but no one dared to move.
Everyone, including Gu Ning, felt deep fear.
Jia Daozhang’s legs shook uncontrollably, whispering to Gu Ning beside him, “Gu Ning… what… what do we do now…”
As he spoke, the zombie wolf dog’s eyes snapped to him, baring its fangs, ready to pounce!
Jia Daozhang’s face turned deathly pale!
Gu Ning, also terrified, quickly raised her knife!
Just then, a timid girl suddenly screamed, seemingly breaking down, and ran madly towards the iron gate!
As she moved, the zombie wolf dog also sprang into action, howling like thunder, charging towards her!
At that moment, Gu Ning seized the opportunity, shouting, “Quick! Inside!”
Then she was the first to run towards the door!
Jia Daozhang and Cheng Ming, closest to Gu Ning, followed instinctively, rushing towards the door!
Now was the test of everyone’s reaction time!
Gu Ning was the first through the door, followed by Cheng Ming and Jia Daozhang. Surprisingly, Huang Mengyao almost reflexively followed Gu Ning inside! The girl who had just reached the iron gate was pounced on by the zombie dog, her throat bitten before she could even scream!
After biting the girl’s throat, the zombie dog turned and saw Gu Ning and the others inside, enraged, it let go of the girl and charged towards the door! Meanwhile, a boy outside was just a few steps from the door—
“Ah!!!!!” A scream! His face filled with terror as Yang Wei, lying motionless, suddenly grabbed his ankle. He barely shook off the hand, but before he could take another step, the zombie dog pounced on him from behind at a terrifying speed! Almost simultaneously, Gu Ning, without hesitation, slammed the door shut and locked it. Immediately, a piercing scream echoed from outside.
Xiao Yunyun covered her mouth, and two other girls, overwhelmed, began sobbing.
Huang Mengyao’s face was pale, but surprisingly, she didn’t cry.
Before Gu Ning could catch her breath, the door slammed with a loud “Bang!” The force shook Gu Ning’s hand off the door! The zombie wolf dog was angrily ramming the door! The girls’ sobs paused.
Before they could react, a second crash followed!
The zombie wolf dog was massive, and its impact was tremendous!
It kept ramming the door, the entire iron security door seemed to be bending!
Gu Ning, without thinking, pressed her back against the door, each impact shaking her. She glanced at the lock, feeling uneasy, and shouted to Jia Daozhang, Cheng Ming, and the other boys, “Quick, push the fridge over here!”
Then she yelled at the terrified girls, “Come help!”
Huang Mengyao was the first to react, running over to press against the door near the crack. The girls, under Gu Ning’s threatening glare, hurried to help hold the door.
One girl, while pressing the door, cried, “Are we all going to die here?”
“Shut your mouth!” Huang Mengyao suddenly snapped at her.
The girl immediately stopped talking, using all her strength to hold the door.
The three boys were struggling to move the fridge, while Jia Daozhang and Cheng Ming dragged the TV cabinet over, blocking the door.
Gu Ning, not satisfied, also moved the large sofas to block the door tightly.
Only then did they relax slightly, everyone collapsing, feeling like they had narrowly escaped death.
But Gu Ning didn’t share that feeling; the zombie dog outside showed no signs of stopping, still ramming the door relentlessly, as if it wouldn’t stop until it broke through.
The continuous banging was terrifying.
Gu Ning didn’t rest, quickly scouting the floor, finding only a few skeletons, nothing useful. She returned to the hall, her face grim, saying to those still on the ground, “No back door. We’re trapped.”
