Chapter 140

The God of Dekan’s Contract

Upon hearing Judith’s response, Dekan couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

For some reason this female knight had been doggedly fixated on him since they first met.

Of course, Dekan also took great amusement in the female knight making things difficult for him.

There was no way he’d be able to leave this place today without paying some sort of price.

As long as he stood upon the moral high ground, Dekan was invincible.

He pointed at the body bag on the ground and said irritably:

“Come on, come on, why don’t you open up and see who’s in this bag?”

“Ho ho, could it possibly be Evans? Absolutely laughable.”

Judith sneered with a cold laugh, shaking her head in derision.

From her perspective,

the only way the guy in front of her today could clear his name

would be if this body bag contained Evans.

But such a ridiculous scenario was something even a three-year-old would know was absolutely impossible.

Judith walked over to the corpse.

She kept Dekan firmly in sight while wielding her sword to carefully cut open the body bag, skillfully slicing its outer layer without harming the body inside.

Watching the cloth bag slowly spread apart,

Judith also caught a glimpse of the condition of this corpse.

She discovered that while this corpse’s outfit was scorched in several places, it was clearly the attire of a member of the clergy.

What a pitiful priest, meeting his end at the hands of these three characters.

However,

as Judith gradually made out the features of the priest,

“Evans!!!”

In that instant Judith couldn’t help but let out a startled scream, her lips quivering as she continuously stepped back.

Her expression became one of terror, as if she had seen a ghost.

How could her most formidable nemesis have suddenly turned into a corpse?!

“How, how could this be possible?!”

Judith’s breathing seemed to have become rapid and irregular from the sudden shock.

She quickly realized something and eyed Dekan suspiciously once more.

“Are you trying to dupe me with some kind of contraption?”

She firmly believed this couldn’t possibly be Evans.

It was merely a prop the dangerous individual in front of her was using to mess with her mind!

“You can check for yourself, can’t you? Where am I supposed to find a corpse of an eighth-rank warrior?”

Dekan sighed as if he was feeling drained.

Perhaps he was already anxious to skip ahead to the money counting part.

Judith listened before squatting down. With trembling hands, she extended them out to touch the corpse,

checking the body’s solidity and using magical energy for further investigation. Judith soon confirmed that this was the corpse of an eighth-rank warrior.

And most crucially,

there were the wounds on Evans’ body which she left when pursuing him this afternoon!

It was absolutely impossible for these marks to be forged!

There was no doubt about it, the deceased was Evans!!

Judith bit her lips tightly as her mind raced furiously but couldn’t wrap around the current situation.

How could Evans possibly die just like that??

The answers were definitely tied to this youth in front of her!

Judith suddenly looked up.

She could see Dekan expressionlessly watching her, but his eyes were sharp, as if he couldn’t wait to devour his prey.

This made Judith shiver involuntarily.

“How did you kill Evans??”

“The death of Mr. Evans was mainly due to a traffic accident. After confirming that he was beyond saving, we provided him with humanitarian end-of-life care.”

Dekan stated matter-of-factly.

Judith, listening to Dekan’s strange response, surprisingly understood. Evans was beaten to near death and then finished off.

But wasn’t that death just a bit too casual, or too humiliating?

Could Evans really be that easy to take down?

Then if even Evans was that easy to defeat, didn’t that make her look even more pathetic since she couldn’t even handle Evans?

Her expression became increasingly dubious.

However, the biggest problem right now wasn’t the details of how Evans had been defeated.

It was that she seemed to have made a huge mistake.

Hadn’t she just confidently declared some rather significant promises?

Judith bit her lips, looking at Dekan as if she was struggling with her last bit of dignity.

“How about the smell of blood on you?”

Dekan said nothing, only taking out “Purification of Blood”, “Transformation Spell: Spirit Cat,” and waving the two cards in front of Judith.

“Uh…”

Judith’s expression changed several times in a second.

She soon figured it out.

This wasn’t the method of a depraved bishop!

It was the recent top-tier cardmaker known as the “Hell Person”!

“I misunderstood you. Sorry, the effect of your card was too similar to the spell of that fallen bishop.”

Judith scratched the back of her head, smiling bitterly with a look of full remorse.

“Ah??”

Dekan shouted loudly, looking very perplexed. Then he turned his head and placed his palm near his ear.

“Sorry, I didn’t quite hear you. But I seem to remember you said something earlier about wrong accusations, apologies, and satisfaction?”

“Groan…”

Judith was utterly abashed, swallowing hard as she awkwardly fiddled with her armored skirt.

“What would you have me do?”

Her voice was growing softer and softer.

“I won’t make things too difficult for you. Whether it’s out of gratitude for helping me take out Evans or as an apology for misunderstanding the likes of a perfectly good person like me, isn’t it reasonable that you fulfill one request for me?”

“…”

Judith clenched her lips tightly, unable to respond to Dekan for a moment.

As a holy knight who believes in the deities, she could not easily make such a promise.

Because this promise was far too broad.

Once she agreed, even if Dekan wanted to claim his promise that very night, she wouldn’t be able to refuse.

But she did have some justification for feeling regret.

She looked at Dekan’s direct gaze and felt somewhat desperate.

“One thing that doesn’t violate the laws of the Norton Kingdom and does not go against your moral principles.”

Seeing Judith’s predicament, Dekan added.

“Alright!”

Upon hearing Dekan’s concession, Judith didn’t hesitate for a moment before agreeing.

If these two restrictions were added,

there wouldn’t be much to worry about regarding this promise.

And at least she wouldn’t have to hand over anything important to Dekan that night.

Because Dekan was still a minor.

Illegal.

“Can the deity bear witness?”

Dekan asked.

Judith understood Dekan’s meaning and turned towards the direction of the sunrise, performing a prayer ritual of the Sun God religion:

“I swear to the Goddess that I will fulfill one thing for you that does not break the law or morality, as a repayment for your favor and an apology.”

“Pretty decent. You admit when you lose.”

Dekan immediately felt a lot more comfortable.

Then he turned and looked at Chloix,

“Are there any remaining contracts?”

Chloix nodded,

“There are some in my suitcase, I’ll go get them.”

Judith listened to their conversation full of doubts.

Contract?

What contract?

Does he want an eighth-rank holy knight like me to become their enforcer?

Hmm.

If it doesn’t violate laws or morality, fine.

After all, with these two limitations, doing anything wouldn’t tarnish her honor.

Judith thought.
