Chapter 143

He did not have luck.

While putting down the 499th innocent civilian, Kail thought.

‘As if I could ever be lucky…’

If he had been overflowing with luck from the start, he wouldn’t have died from a burst blood vessel while doing squats, nor would he have reincarnated into this kind of world.

But Kail wasn’t the type to whine about his lack of luck and give up on everything like an ordinary person. He was closer to being a madman who pushed himself to his limits.

“This is the last one, Hero.”

“That’s right.”

The 500th and final suspect.

Kail crossed his fingers, hoping that the person inside was part of the Evil God Cult, and burst into the room.

As those powerful elites who make a lot of money do, this building was also a mansion filled with valuable treasures due to the large amount of money spent on it.

Of course, the mansion was swarming with guards tasked with protecting such valuables.

“Intruder!”

“Get the master to safety first!”

“Call the guard team!”

Watching the frantic movements of the house guards, Kail smirked.

“Everyone, stop moving.”

Kail’s words were blatantly ignored. Honestly, if there were fools who would stop just because an intruder told them to, they wouldn’t even be working here in the first place.

Realizing that words wouldn’t work, Kail immediately resorted to action. It was fortunate that he was with the Virgin Saintess; she could fix anything no matter what happened.

Whoosh! With a light flick of Kail’s hand, the guards who had been running around suddenly grabbed their ankles and rolled on the ground.

“Aaargh!”

“Guh?!”

Walking slowly through the immobilized guards whose ankles had been severed, Kail spoke.

“The owner of this mansion is suspected of being part of the Evil God Cult. From now on, anyone who moves will be considered an accomplice and dealt with accordingly.”

Not a single soldier dared to move after hearing his words. After asking the soldiers for the location of their master, Kail headed toward the place they mentioned.

When he went up to the second floor, he heard footsteps running far away. Glancing over, he saw a long-haired woman sprinting somewhere.

‘It looks like she is over there.’

Through his Aura, Kail detected everyone in the house and realized someone was in the direction she was heading—most likely the mansion’s owner.

That woman must be running to warn her master of the danger.

“I said if you move, you’re part of the Evil God Cult.”

Watching her casually head toward her master without a care, Kail used his Aura Blade from afar to subdue the secretary.

And then, naturally, he entered the room the secretary had been heading toward.

Inside the room, a long-haired man with steak sauce all over his mouth was trying to escape. Whether or not he was part of the Evil God Cult, the fact that he was running away immediately suggested he was hiding something.

“Where are you going?”

Without hesitation, Kail cut the man’s ankle, climbed on top of him, and grinned as he looked down at the long-haired man.

“Guhhh! Wh-what are you doing?!”

“Did I tell you to run?”

Kail declared to the man as he spoke.

“You’re the last one. Spawn of the Evil God Cult.”

The man’s eyes flashed at the mention of the Evil God Cult. Kail didn’t miss the way his pupils trembled wildly in that brief moment.

By this point, Kail was already 140% sure the guy was part of the Evil God Cult. Just then, the Virgin Saintess, who had finished treating the soldiers, entered the room.

“Lucía, Owner of Lucía Trading House at Desire Trading Firm?”

“Y-you…!”

“Yes. Someone of your stature should recognize my face. I am the Virgin Saintess.”

The Virgin Saintess’s eyes sparkled as she spoke. The rosary around her neck began to glow, illuminating Lucía.

A detector designed to identify those who worshipped gods other than the Sovereign God—mainly the Evil God. When the white rosary touched Lucía’s body, its tip turned pitch black.

Seeing the clear evidence of her being part of the Evil God Cult, Lady Saint kicked hard, shattering Lucía’s head. Even Kail, who had been holding Lucía, was shocked by the brutality of her actions and stepped back.

“What… Is it really over just like that?”

“Of course, Hero. These vile creatures must not be allowed to live.”

“Well, I guess…”

Before Kail could point out that the Virgin Saintess’s actions were too extreme, he noticed Lucía’s shattered head wriggling and attempting to regenerate. Without hesitation, he slammed her back into the ground.

“Come to think of it, these guys don’t die in one go.”

“…No, normally they die in one hit.”

“Huh? The ones I’ve met kept coming back to life even after being killed hundreds of times.”

“The power of immortality is a special ability granted only to apostles. If the person you encountered didn’t die, that means… they are an apostle of the Evil God Cult.”

The Virgin Saintess paused mid-sentence and looked down at Lucía. Only apostles possessed the power of immortality.

And right now, an apostle was standing before them. Even after scouring the history of the Holy Kingdom, they had only managed to capture five apostles.

“Hero!”

“Huh? What’s wrong all of a sudden…”

“Quickly, we need to get out of here─!”

The reason the Holy Kingdom, with its thousands of years of history, had only captured five apostles wasn’t due to their incompetence.

It was because apostles were known as terminals of the Evil God, boasting immense power. The fact that this apostle had been captured so easily might mean that even this capture was part of their plan.

Kuuuuum…

─Oh God, oh God. Oh merciful Evil God.

The spiritual incantation of Lucía, the Apostle of Lust, echoed throughout the area. Kail glanced over at Lucía, who now lay motionless, seemingly having exhausted all her regenerative power.

─I offer my body.

The building—or rather, the entire city—began to glow bright red. Kail, whose fiancée was a Master-level sorcerer, could roughly guess what kind of magic this was.

A sacrificial spell fueled by life itself.

─Save everyone from this hellish world.

The grand magic cast using an apostle of the Evil God as a sacrifice opened the gates of hell. A sinister crackling sound filled the air as a small rift opened in the sky.

From the other side of the rift, a pitch-black finger emerged.

“…What is that?”

At the sight of the finger, Kail felt something deep within him drop away.

Even an Aura Master with an unbreakable spirit forged through completing their sword felt this level of shock. It was obvious how ordinary people who hadn’t reached the level of Master would react upon seeing it.

“Ah, aaaah─!!”

Beside him, the Virgin Saintess screamed and collapsed. Kail swallowed hard and moved closer to the window.

‘I have to do this.’

The next moment, Kail shattered the window and leapt toward the pitch-black finger.

* * *

Crackle!

The slightly open rift widened further, revealing two joints of the finger that had previously only shown a fingernail.

Though it was just two joints, the finger was enormous—larger than the biggest giant Kail had ever seen.

With each joint measuring several meters in length, it wasn’t hard to imagine how massive the main body was.

Predicting what would happen to this world when such a giant appeared was simple.

‘I have to stop it.’

Arriving in front of the pitch-black rift in the air, Kail carefully drew a sword from within his heart as he watched the finger thrashing around, widening the gap forcefully.

The Aura Blade manifested in the world. Normally, there was nothing this blade couldn’t cut.

But it wasn’t enough.

‘This won’t work.’

Kail instinctively realized that the Aura Blade alone wouldn’t suffice. Fortunately, he possessed a divine technique that surpassed even the Aura Blade.

He condensed and focused his Aura. The materialized Aura compressed further.

When the gathered Aura began to burn a brilliant blue, Kail swung his sword at the finger.

Swish!

‘Shallow!’

The Superior Blade sliced through the Evil God’s finger. At that moment, the Evil God screamed in pain.

─■■■■■■■!!

An incomprehensible divine language echoed from beyond the rift. Kail smirked with satisfaction at making a god scream and entertained the hope that the god might retreat.

Unfortunately, things in the world rarely went so smoothly. The wounded Evil God, flailing its finger wildly, suddenly stopped—and began squeezing the finger.

From the squeezed side of the finger—the part Kail had cut—a pitch-black droplet of blood began dripping onto the earth.

“No─!”

─■Do ■■■

The Evil God’s finger pointed at Kail.

─Die.

A death ray shot from the fingertip. Kail reflexively swung his sword to cut through the beam.

In the time it took to deflect the beam, the droplets of blood leaking from the Evil God’s finger finally reached the ground.

Sizzle…!

Watching the Evil God’s blood melt into the earth, Kail wore an expression of despair. As he feared, the land began to rot.

─■Haha!

The Evil God laughed.

Its laughter pierced through Kail’s heart.

The laughter of the Evil God carried the stench of fresh blood.
