Chapter 145

One Hundred Forty-Five: Position

On Knight Road in the dead of night, the bloody battle continued. The hunters were being relentlessly attacked by several bone blades flying through the air. Already injured during their earlier confrontation with the ruffians, the hunters struggled to defend themselves against these airborne bone blades. Several had already fallen to the ground.

Fortunately, thanks to Gregor’s correct order to retreat indoors, the bone blades were forced to shift from offensive attacks to containment, reducing the pressure on the hunters. Although they couldn’t enter the buildings, they could now manage to resist the bone blades’ assault.

Gregor became the main force of resistance, deflecting and repelling over half of the incoming blades. Despite temporarily holding his ground, he was furious inside.

“d*mn it… Where is the b*stard hiding who’s controlling these things! I’ll cut him down!”

Gregor realized that these bone blades were clearly under someone’s control. This hidden enemy was gradually cornering them, and once Gregor’s stamina waned, they would all perish on this road.

Gregor was extremely frustrated but had no way to confront this hidden foe. Similarly, Elena, who was firing from the balcony, was anxious. She wanted to help her teammates but found herself unable to effectively snipe the bone blades, which were flying chaotically beyond her range.

Elena scanned around, trying to locate the controller, but the darkness and chaos made it impossible. Her inability to assist her comrades turned into deep anxiety.

“What am I supposed to do…”

Unlike the frantic hunters, Godfrey in the dark room remained calm. He coldly observed the trapped hunters below, estimating how long the shadowy figure could hold out and when their defenses would collapse.

“Not bad for a Black Dog squad, but it ends here…”

Godfrey was satisfied with the current situation. The only thing bothering him was that he failed to catch a nimble meat puppet that evaded his bone blade.

But it didn’t matter. The meat puppet’s controller wasn’t his target. Escaping now wouldn’t affect the battle much.

Just as Godfrey thought this, he noticed a familiar figure standing under the nearby light—a meat puppet he had lost track of!

This meat puppet didn’t flee as expected; instead, it stood boldly under the light… dancing?

Yes, the meat puppet was actually dancing! On this bl**d-soaked battlefield, it performed a standard tap dance!

The young dancer’s joyful steps echoed on the cobblestones, as if performing on stage. Seeing the dancer, Godfrey clenched his fist.

“Does he dare provoke me again? Does he think he can keep dodging?”

Watching the distant dancer, Godfrey gritted his teeth. Clearly, this was a provocation from the meat puppet’s controller.

The young puppet’s face seemed to say, “Come at me! Show me what you’ve got!”

“Do you want me to divert more bone blades to chase you and free those dogs? Dream on! Four blades will handle the dogs; one blade will finish you!”

As he thought this, Godfrey controlled the bone blade that had been chasing the meat puppet to strike again. He wouldn’t tolerate such provocation without retaliating.

Seeing the bone blade flying back towards him, the flying thief zombie puppet immediately stopped dancing and started running, dodging the blade as before.

Since Dorothy had an aerial view, she could see the trajectory of the bone blades without needing to observe them constantly like a regular person. She just needed to keep running, making it easier to dodge the blades with others’ visual assistance.

Dorothy maneuvered the flying thief zombie puppet around the streets, while the bone blade pursued relentlessly.

Unlike before, this time the flying thief zombie puppet rarely left Godfrey’s sight. It began moving around various cover points: fences, trash cans, street lamps, and billboards. These obstacles occasionally blocked Godfrey’s view, causing the pursuit to be intermittent, increasing his frustration.

Meanwhile, on the dark rooftop, Dorothy smiled slightly as she watched the scene below.

“Just take your time… Let me see where you can see and where you can’t…”

Dorothy thought as she manipulated the flying thief zombie puppet to lure the pursuing bone blade. She wasn’t running aimlessly but using the cover to determine the blind spots of the ghost manipulator’s field of vision, deducing the direction from which he was watching!

When the puppet hid behind a cover the ghost manipulator couldn’t see, the pursuing bone blade would hesitate, indicating a clear line of sight for a smooth strike.

If the puppet hid behind a billboard and the bone blade hesitated, it meant the controller’s line of sight came from the other side. If the puppet hid behind a parked carriage and the blade still struck freely, it meant the controller’s line of sight did not come from the north side of the carriage. To have a comprehensive view, the controller must be high up, on a higher floor.

By maneuvering the flying thief zombie puppet around various covers, Dorothy could gather information about the controller’s field of vision. Once she had enough data, she could calculate the source point of the controller’s vision—their hiding place.

Soon, Dorothy estimated the ghost manipulator was roughly located on the south side of Knight Road, in a high-rise building on the left side of the battlefield. Then, she directed two bird zombies circling in the air to investigate a specific location. A short while later, she spotted a person focused on observing the scene from a fourth-floor window.

“I finally found you…”

Seeing this, Dorothy controlled the two bird zombies to survey the building. Finding the windows tightly shut and difficult to enter, she then directed the bird zombies to perch on a protruding stone beam above the window, dropping a box of matches.

The bird zombies used their beaks to open the matchbox, picked up a long match, and one held it steady while the other bit it and struck it against the side of the box, igniting the match in the dark space.

At that moment, Elena, frantically looking around on the 26th floor balcony, suddenly noticed a faint light coming from a dark spot across the building.

“That is…”

Attracted by the light, she activated her “Lamp” extraordinary ability to look in that direction and saw a blurry figure on the fourth-floor window, someone peering down.

Seeing that figure, Elena froze, then without hesitation raised her rifle and fired directly at the figure.

“Bang!”

With a loud gunshot piercing the night, the b*llet flew straight, shattered the window, and hit Godfrey, who was manipulating the battlefield below, right in the chest.
