Chapter 150: The Magic Box
In the underground workshop of St. Amanda School, Dorothy sat motionlessly in her seat, her expression blank and her gaze fixed. She felt as if she had turned into a stone statue, her young mind receiving an unyielding shock from reality.
After a long moment, her thoughts began to resume their function, and the first thing that came to mind was a complaint.
“d*mn, doesn’t this old guy even bargain back?”
Dorothy thought to herself. The price she had offered was the result of much deliberation. In her view, it was well beyond reasonable.
This was five volumes of Secret Transmission! Each volume was worth four or five hundred pounds, making the total value around two thousand pounds! With that kind of money, one could live comfortably for a lifetime by just collecting rent in Igewent! And then there was that extraordinary item with spatial storage… Could such items be common in the Secret World?
Dorothy pondered, having set her price much higher than she originally intended, hoping to create more room for negotiation. Her true bottom line was only around two volumes of Secret Transmission.
Having set up her negotiation space and mental floor price, Dorothy expected to go through several rounds of haggling with Audric. But unexpectedly, Audric accepted her high offer instantly, making Dorothy feel as if she had lost billions.
Dorothy felt like she was asking for too much, but to Audric, it seemed like a small request.
“Ahhh… It feels so unfair… Does he have so much money? I should have asked for more…”
Dorothy exclaimed inwardly, despite actually receiving far more than she had anticipated.
Human hearts are truly mysterious.
“What’s wrong, Miss Meyshos? Isn’t it worth celebrating that we reached an agreement so quickly and completed the transaction?” Audric calmly said, watching Dorothy’s stunned expression.
Dorothy’s face went through a series of complex changes before she sighed deeply.
“Phew… Alright, the deal is done. Could you please show me what I asked for?” Dorothy said, deciding against reneging on the contract. Seeing her response, Audric smiled approvingly.
“Hehe, as you wish, Miss Meyshos.”
With that, Audric got up and walked into a nearby room in his workshop. Soon, he returned with a few items in hand and placed them in front of Dorothy.
They were two old books and a small copper box about the size of a palm. The box was circular, adorned with colorful jewels and intricate carvings, looking quite valuable.
“This is the ‘Magic Box,’ which can only be made by high-tier ‘Stone’ Craftsmen. Inside is a special compressed space that can hold many items. Several high tiers of the ‘Stone’ path have the ability to make Magic Boxes, and the most advanced ones can even contain entire cities.”
Looking at the copper box on the table, Audric continued explaining.
“This is a basic model, with a 7x7x7 cubic meter space, totaling 343 cubic meters. I think this will be enough for you. To use it, just open the lid and put things inside. Adjusting the yellow gemstone on top controls the size of the entrance and exit.”
As he spoke, Audric demonstrated by opening the lid of the box. Instead of seeing the bottom, Dorothy saw a pitch-black void. Then, Audric twisted the yellow gemstone, causing the void to expand beyond the box’s limits, with an orange-yellow halo circling its edge to contain the void.
“Be careful. Most Magic Boxes are designed for storage, and this one is no exception. It’s best not to put intelligent beings inside, as it can severely damage their intellect. Also, avoid subjecting the internal space to severe impacts, or the Magic Box might break and release everything inside.”
Having finished his explanation, Audric adjusted the Magic Box back to its original state and closed the lid. He then looked at Dorothy, waiting for her questions.
“Magic Box… You said many high-tier ‘Stone’ Extraordinary Beings can make these, so they’re not rare in the Secret World, right?” Dorothy asked, thinking perhaps this item wasn’t very valuable.
“Hehe… Not rare? Miss Meyshos, I meant high-tier Extraordinary Beings of the ‘Stone’ path can make these. The rarity of high-tier Extraordinary Beings might surprise you; there are even fewer of the high tier. Let me be direct: there are very few Extraordinary Beings who can make Magic Boxes, and the success rate isn’t high. This one in your hands is already enough to cause a fight between two White Chalks.”
“Huh?”
Hearing Audric’s words, Dorothy was momentarily bewildered. She couldn’t tell if what he said was true or just exaggeration.
If this was true, hadn’t she just struck a huge deal? This was something that could cause two White Chalks to fight over it, all for just one piece of information?
Was the value of the Magic Box low, or was the information’s value too great?
Or was he just boasting.
“Alright… Miss Meyshos, since you’ve brought the items, it’s time to share the information you have.”
Reaching his chair, Audric said to Dorothy. After organizing her thoughts, Dorothy began to tell Audric about the two Black Tiers she had mentioned.
According to Dorothy, while protecting victims of the Holy Communion, she tracked down two strange Black Tiers from outside. They served a master known as Lu Ke, tasked with finding a ‘Stone’ Extraordinary Being in Igewent. They had already pinpointed St. Amanda School and might act soon.
Listening to Dorothy, Audric remained silent for a moment, sipping tea and deep in thought. His furrowed brows revealed his serious concern. Dorothy could see that he took the information about Lu Ke very seriously.
“It has finally come, hasn’t it?”
Audric sighed softly, then looked at Dorothy and spoke again.
“Thank you, Miss Meyshos. The information you brought is very useful to me; it allows me to prepare in advance.”
“You have enemies coming? And very powerful ones? Are you planning to evacuate?” Dorothy responded, already guessing the situation. Clearly, Audric had enemies seeking revenge.
“Evacuate? Hmph… For a ‘Stone,’ abandoning the position is the most foolish thing to do; it’s akin to self-destruction.” Audric sneered.
“Then, you plan to confront them head-on? What are your chances?”
“Chances? Even if I am fully prepared, my chances might be around forty percent… But if Miss Meyshos stands by my side, I believe our chances would increase to sixty percent. So, Miss Meyshos, would you consider making another deal with me?
“The reward is… my favor.”
