Chapter 153: Constructs: Cavalry Series
Despite Wit’s desire to stay in the secret room.
But dawn marked Monday, and they had classes to attend.
So even though they found nothing, they still had to leave the secret room and return quickly.
However, on their way back.
They were ambushed!
It was countless black bats!
The secret passage suddenly illuminated, with bats hanging upside down from the ceiling. Before they could react, the bats swarmed them.
Robert desperately swung his arms to drive away the bats.
Wit held a freshly drawn Mana Card and crouched down, protecting himself.
The bats flew directly at them, brushing past and then suddenly vanishing.
Wit instinctively summoned a Gigant, but the bats only reappeared after he put it away.
The two of them frantically fled from the bat swarm, finally escaping to the outer area of the secret passage with legs numb from exertion.
There, the bat swarm vanished without a trace.
But immediately afterward, they stumbled into the patrol range of a Construct!
…
St. Maryan’s patrolling Constructs came in various models, with the most numerous being the “Heavy Cavalry” and “Light Cavalry.”
The “Heavy Cavalry” Constructs stood about 2.23 meters tall and one meter wide. They moved via wheels and spider legs, specializing in defense and slower movement. Each wielded a two-meter lance, adept at sweeping and thrusting.
Above their foreheads was an enchanted gem that could release a “Paralysis Beam.”
The “Light Cavalry” Constructs were more agile, moving similarly via wheels and spider legs, but with stronger spider legs capable of adhering to walls.
Their primary weapons were dual swords, with a waist pivot allowing 360-degree rotation. Despite this, their speed wasn’t particularly fast.
Unlike the “Heavy Cavalry,” the “Light Cavalry” lacked long-range magical skills.
Constructs, as soon-to-be obsolete alchemical products, were rarely seen on the market and mostly served as guardians for ancient castles.
St. Maryan’s Constructs were primarily maintained by Professor Kazel alone, often leading to some functional issues.
Yet, these issues did not diminish their intimidating effect on the young magi.
This was akin to how elementary school students fear being caught breaking rules by a teacher.
After colliding with the patrol range of the Constructs, Wit and Robert didn’t even think of resisting and fled in panic.
They utilized their familiarity with the secret passage to avoid direct confrontation, but the pursuing Constructs multiplied behind them.
Finally, they managed to break out of the secret passage, gasping for breath, thinking they were safe.
But they encountered the patrolling Constructs inside the castle.
…
“This is the view at four in the morning?”
Watching Wit and Robert flee across the bridge chased by Constructs, Dark yawned slowly.
Another “Heavy Cavalry” Construct appeared from the other side of the bridge, blocking the pursuit, effectively trapping the two on the bridge.
What should have been a peaceful academy life was now turned into an adventure in a dungeon.
Wit and Robert stood back-to-back, holding stacks of Mana Cards, eyes trembling.
…
Dark upstairs showed no intention of getting involved.
Being caught for violating school rules was something one should expect before deciding to break the rules. It was a responsibility one had to bear.
Just like Dark himself.
He slowly turned around, looking at another Construct attracted by the commotion.
This Construct was neither “Heavy Cavalry” nor “Light Cavalry,” but a higher-tier “Dragoon!”
“Unauthorized unit detected!”
“Initiate arrest!”
The enchanted gem on the Construct’s forehead glowed crimson, adding an eerie touch to the dim dawn.
Dark reached for his Mana Card Deck.
He had read about the academy’s Constructs.
The “Dragoon” was more intricate in construction and significantly improved in functionality compared to the “Heavy Cavalry” and “Light Cavalry.”
Its armor seemed light yet was sturdier than the heavy armor of the “Heavy Cavalry.”
Metallic limbs, resembling human bones, made the “Dragoon’s” movements more agile.
It wielded a large, edgeless sword that could generate an aura!
And its forehead gem could release a “Gravity Beam!”
…
Upstairs and downstairs.
Inside the castle and on the bridge.
The battle curtain was drawn simultaneously!
…
“Mana Summon!” x3;
Though slightly staggered, all three summoned their Mana Spirits.
Dark’s Magical Beast: Eevee.
Wit’s Gigant.
Robert’s Semi-Mechanical Rodent.
The appearance of the three Mana Spirits instantly changed the situation.
…
Dark paid no further attention to the two on the bridge. After summoning 【Magical Beast: Eevee】, he immediately started running.
Almost simultaneously, the pitch-black beam released from the “Dragoon’s” forehead brushed past him!
The air distorted visibly where Dark originally stood.
He glanced once and immediately raised “Bliss III”!
A pink glow burst from the Mana Card, piercing through the darkness before dawn.
“Grrr!”
A “Bliss” emblem appeared on Eevee’s forehead, its form twisting and changing in the light.
【Magical Beast: Moon Eevee】 leaped out!
Then, it pounced toward Dark!
“Damn!”
Though expected, Dark still felt a twitch in his head.
He continued running, already holding a third Mana Card.
The “Dragoon” launched itself upward after missing with the Gravity Beam!
The greatsword, surrounded by an aura, slashed in a perfect arc, striking Moon Eevee fiercely!
Constructs’ internal circuits prioritized attacking Mana Spirits.
Students would not be harmed if they did not resist.
But Dark was clearly not one to stay passive.
His Mana Card glowed, propelling him forward two meters, completely evading Moon Eevee.
Moon Eevee, taken by surprise, took the blow from the greatsword’s edge in a gust of wind, crashing violently into the wall.
Its Mana Value plummeted rapidly.
But after sliding down the wall, it roared, finally focusing on the “Dragoon!”
“Shadow Ball!”
Seeing Moon Eevee finally ready to fight, Dark immediately commanded.
Moon Eevee tilted its head back, dark energy quickly gathering in its mouth before spewing out a black sphere!
“BOOM!”
The “Dragoon” reacted swiftly, batting the Shadow Ball away with its greatsword!
Moon Eevee dug its claws into the ground, body lowering slightly, showing a wary look.
…
At this moment.
Dark had successfully created a safe distance.
His eyes flickered, lips curling slightly.
This was clearly an excellent opportunity to test “Mana Cards”!
