Chapter 158
51. Beauty and the Beast 157 – Beauty and the Beast #1
Whoosh, smack!
“Get out of my house, Gyuki!”
Azidahaka’s hefty tail kept whacking Gyuki’s head like a piñata. Gyuki, holding his scratched face with my claws and totally unprepared, slammed into the wall, howling in pain.
“Gah! How dare you drag a lady into a man’s fight…! You’re not even a man!”
Shut it, you bum! Just take your beating!
Boom bang. Bang.
My tail relentlessly smacked Gyuki’s head. Not satisfied, I wrapped my tail around his neck, hopped on his face, and started delivering a relentless flurry of punches and scratches.
Bang. Bang. Splat, crack.
In no time, that stylish face of Gyuki’s was shredded and bathed in bl**d.
“Unbelievable…!”
Thinking he couldn’t just stand there, Gyuki heaved me off his body like I was a feather and grabbed the nape of my neck.
What kind of power does this guy have? I need to escape!
Whoosh, swipe.
My front paw flew through the air and targeted Gyuki’s wrist, slicing through his tendons like butter. Gyuki loosened his grip on me, tenderly rubbing his injured wrist.
I kicked his face with my back paw and created some distance. Gyuki cracked his jaw as if trying to put his broken chin back together.
“I don’t understand your fury, but this is fun! It’s been about a thousand years since bl**d flowed through my body…!”
Gyuki’s injured face and wrist began healing faster than an overhyped anime character with plot armor.
The ultimate mythical creature with the strongest regenerative ability… I didn’t expect this to be a cakewalk, but this “super regeneration” is extremely annoying!
Gyuki’s ability to recover quickly made him seem unbeatable.
If I ever fight Gyuki, I need to push his limits until he can’t heal anymore. That’s the only way. Or I might be able to catch him when he’s starved, supposedly his recovery slows down then.
I recalled the strategy Batus once shared about how to handle the Demon King.
“Now, it’s my turn.”
Gyuki raised his right hand high. The wide fan he was holding radiated a bizarre purple light.
Your turn lasts forever, punk!
I launched myself at Gyuki, aiming for that blasted wrist so I could knock the fan out of his hands.
Whoosh.
I leaped like a cannonball, tearing through the air. I unsheathed my claws and scraped his wrist with all my might.
Slash!
I could feel his tendons ripping. Had I hit an artery? A fountain of bl**d sprayed from his wrist.
Gyuki swung his left hand, trying to grab me as if throwing a lasso. But to my keen eyes, fueled by adrenaline, his movements seemed slow and far from threatening.
“This pest… such annoying speed. But that’s fine; I’ll sweep everything away soon enough.”
His bleeding wrist healed rapidly. Gyuki lifted the fan skyward and then slammed it down to the ground.
Whoosh, bam!
That wasn’t just any sound—sound waves like an oversized fly swatter hit the ground. I winced, feeling like my eardrums were about to burst.
Beeep!
My ears rang and my head spun. A gale-like wind rushed toward me.
Annoying!
I dug my claws into the ground and ground my teeth.
Just a glance sideways revealed Usir and Yingyi being flung far away into the darkness by the storm.
“…! Gah!”
Azidahaka, valiantly resisting the wind, shouted something at me. But with my ruptured eardrums, I couldn’t grasp a single word.
Whoosh, whoosh.
In front of me stood the Demon King Gyuki, swinging his fan determined to blow us away.
Scrape, scrape.
My claws screeched against the ground, creating sparks. If I just stood there taking the wind like Usir and Yingyi, I’d end up flying away too.
“Hurry! Do something!”
Perhaps my eardrums were healing, but I could hear Azidahaka’s urgent voice clear as day now.
What did you say!?
While battling the wind, I asked, and Azidahaka shouted back with conviction.
“I’ll create a moment of opportunity! Take advantage of it to attack! I don’t know why, but he hasn’t seen sunlight for a thousand years, so his strength is weakened! With both of us, we can definitely take him on!”
Got it! Just do it before I start flying away!
“Hold on tightly!”
The air around Azidahaka ignited with intense heat. A barrier of fiery energy formed, and suddenly Azidahaka cried out like a beast, grounding himself with all fours.
“Gahhh!”
It was a horrendous scream, like something straight out of hell. A chill crawled down my spine.
I had felt this before—the moment a mythical creature reveals its true form, back in the Ilgast days.
Fwoosh.
Red flames erupted around Azidahaka as his body began to stretch like elastic.
The fire dragon Azidahaka, once known for burning the skies, was shedding his restraints and liberating his power.
Red scales sprouted along Azidahaka’s face and neck, and horns grew from his head at an alarming rate.
“It’s cramped here, so I can’t unleash my full power, but this should be enough!”
Now a half-human, half-dragon beast, Azidahaka pushed against the wind and slowly moved forward. I hid behind him to escape the gale.
Not happening!
Whoosh. Whoosh!
A cutting wind roared, striking Azidahaka’s body. The fierce gust slashed against his red dress and scales.
“Ugh…!”
Hey, stay strong! I’ll give you a push!
I pushed against Azidahaka’s back with all my might. His steps quickened until he could finally reach out to Gyuki.
“GRAAAH!”
Azidahaka bellowed, charging at Gyuki. The two mythical creatures tumbled together in a fierce melee.
“You can’t defeat me, Azidahaka! Give up! Just hand over this nest to Nialli!”
“I can’t let that happen! Gaaaah!”
Just as Gyuki said, Azidahaka started to falter in strength. The once-equal power struggle tilted toward Gyuki’s favor.
Gyuki mounted Azidahaka, pointing the sharp end of his fan threateningly at his neck.
“Surrender. Even though you betrayed the forest, we once ate together under the World Tree. I don’t want to k*ll you.”
“I don’t want to k*ll you either. Just surrender, Gyuki!”
“What kind of situation is this…!”
Alright, hold tight!
“I-I can’t hold out much longer! You have to do something!”
Azidahaka tightly grabbed Gyuki’s waist with his tail and yelled. I leaped into the air, curling into a ball.
It was time to unleash my ultimate move I’d perfected through various trial and error: the Destruction Sphere aimed right at Gyuki!
Whooooosh.
My spinning body whizzed through the air, sharp spikes slicing the wind like the most menacing saw.
Thud.
A hefty ball of muscle slammed into Gyuki, grinding his torso against the wall, skulls cracking left and right.
“Gaaaah!”
Gyuki screeched in anguish as he crashed into the wall. He grabbed my spinning body with his hands, trying to halt my motion.
But, with my rotation forcibly stopped, I looked past the now half-broken Gyuki and frowned at the grotesque creature emerging from the crumbling wall.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
It was writhing in the most disturbing manner imaginable.
What the…?
“Phew, did I really just break the wall?”
I stuttered, startled, as Gyuki let out a massive sigh and pushed himself up. Just then, the grotesque mass flailed its tentacles toward Gyuki.
Splat, crack!
Gyuki attempted to restrain the tentacles with his arms, but they wrapped around him, crushing his limbs in a horrifying display.
What the? Why are they attacking each other?
Since Nialli’s heart was supposedly on the other side of that wall, this monstrous, squirming mass had to be its heart.
How could it possibly attack Gyuki, its own ally? I just didn’t get it!
“The seal is breaking. The tower will soon reveal itself above ground…!”
Like Gyuki’s urgent shout, red magical symbols began forming around the walls and floor surrounding the mass.
Finally, with a loud crash, the magical circles exploded and turned to dust.
Rumble, rumble, rumble.
The quake shook the tower, signaling the ancient underground city of Sumer was about to break free after a thousand years.
“If that thing is unleashed, no one will be able to stop it. This isn’t the time for it to show itself.”
Gyuki crushed the tentacles wrapping around his arm with his other hand. The heavily injured creature slowly started to heal.
But the regeneration speed was noticeably slower than before, likely because it hadn’t taken in nutrients for a thousand years.
Azidahaka, shaking with uncertainty, glanced from Nialli’s heart to Gyuki, shivering anxiously.
Thud. Thud.
With every squirm of the mass, a black gas oozed from it, staining the floor. Azidahaka covered his mouth with his hand and shouted indignantly.
“Ugh, what an overwhelming poison…! What exactly have you been guarding?”
“I merely kept this thing from leaving. But now, it seems I’ve failed. It has to be sealed again.”
Gyuki tried to cast away the poisonous gas with the fan. However, tentacles extending from the heart wrapped around Gyuki’s neck and limbs, constricting him fiercely.
Creeeak. Crack.
Gyuki’s arms bent at awkward angles and broke. Seeing that, Azidahaka snarled.
“What are you doing!? Hurry and destroy that heart! Are you planning to d*e here or what!?”
“It seems I don’t have much strength left, possibly because I haven’t consumed any nutrients for a thousand years. Even regenerating is a challenge.”
You’re pitiful; at this point, it’s almost admirable. Fine, I’ll destroy it. I was planning on that anyway.
The fight against Gyuki was now merely a means to shatter that heart. With it exposed right in front of me, I no longer needed to bother with Gyuki.
Grooowl!
Thud. Thud.
Fwooosh. Fwooosh.
Toxic gas bubbled out from the heart, filling the space at the bottom of the tower.
As the levels of this foul air rose like water, it seemed as if this space was about to drown in the poisonous abyss.
I wasn’t much affected by the poison, but both Gyuki and Azidahaka were clearly suffering, suggesting that this malevolent energy was a crippling weakness for mythical creatures.
There’s a time limit before I can take it down. Just like a final boss in a tower.
As I smirked and unsheathed my claws, the black energy thickly settled on the ground began to gather, forming shapes like a storm cloud, finally forming a human figure, revealing its pale skin.
“Nialli!”
The captured Gyuki exclaimed brightly. However, the white figure of Nialli, glaring down with cold disdain, clicked her tongue dismissively.
I sensed a disturbance, and it turns out my heart was under threat? You had one job, Gyuki, just one! Protect this heart! How can I trust you with my future if you can’t even handle that? Do you really love me?
“There’s a reason for this…!”
Enough. I’m completely upset now. I don’t want to hear any more of your excuses, Gyuki.
“No…”
Gyuki couldn’t muster another word, trailing off sadly, as Nialli’s frosty gaze shifted toward Azidahaka and me.
And you two… While I was busy focusing on other matters, you’ve made quite the mess, haven’t you?
