I crossed the forest. When I first logged in, the forest was lush, but now it’s changed significantly due to acid slimes. A slime that’s at least 150cm tall roaming around has turned the once-thriving forest into a place that’s ambiguous to even call a forest nowadays.
Still, slimes tend to move where there are no trees, so the area still retains some semblance of a forest.
Walking along the barren dirt path, I spotted a slime. As I was gathering my magic power to shoot it, I suddenly thought of trying out a fireball and abandoned the hovering spell. Following the Fire Mage’s demonstration, I attempted a fireball. The magic power formed a decent shape but crumbled. It seems unfamiliar compared to healing magic, so it’s not going well.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to cast a fireball. Please don’t interrupt.”
I once again attempted to transform the energy, but it crumpled again and failed. After several more attempts, it still wouldn’t work. The difficulty is lower than the healing magic I’ve been practicing, so why can’t I do it? It seems I’m doing something wrong.
Replaying the Fire Mage’s demonstration and comparing it with my own attempts showed a subtle difference between the original fireball’s magic pattern and my own. Why, when I clearly mimicked it?
After some thought, I realized that the magic pattern I created included the arrangement from my healing magic. Like drawing two circles to make a snowman, basic magic patterns for property transformation exist in the form of circles. However, the minor but crucial differences between the circular patterns in healing magic and fire magic prevent the formation of an accurate magic pattern when using healing magic methods.
It seems practicing healing magic has inadvertently ingrained its method within me.
Now aware of the issue, I carefully paid attention while attempting the fireball again. The magic power formed a consistent pattern, and finally, a flame ignited mid-air.

Just then, Doyugeon approached, lifted me suddenly, and threw me over his shoulder. My concentration broke, and the fireball dissipated.

“Look at the slime.”
The slime was right in front of me.
“I noticed.”
Doyugeon started walking, which made me feel odd. I loosened my grip around his shoulder, pressed against him with my magic book, and naturally floated in the air.
“There’s no need to move. I’ll take care of it now.”
I formed the fireball again.
“Whoa.”
Before throwing it, I noticed something strange about the fireball—it seemed a bit fat. The fireball the Fire Mage created was slightly smaller, wasn’t it? Or am I mistaken?
Before I could confirm, Doyugeon urged me to shoot, and I hurled the fireball at the slime. Upon collision, it exploded in a small burst, incinerating the slime. The slime flopped about, leaving behind experience points, then died.
“Strong fireball.”
“Normally, you’d take advantage of the slime rolling around to get closer and target its core.”
“Hmm, maybe I’m just talented?”
“Finally, you’re catching on.”
“To what? You’ve acknowledged this level from the start.”

Still, it’s comforting that it’s not a skill issue. After Doyugeon chuckled to himself, he took a sip of cola and spoke.

“Of course! The Magic Recording skill records the magic patterns you observe. It’s an active skill, but recording always happens in the background.”
After activating the Magic Recording skill, I found nearly all the magic patterns I had seen so far were recorded like videos. Interesting, but if I concentrate, I can memorize them, so it seems unnecessary to rely on this skill for that purpose. Wouldn’t it be a waste of skill slots? Though when I come across complex magic in the future, it might be useful, for now, it seems pointless.
