Chapter 17: Why Is It a Boss Fight Right from the Start?
They had good intentions, but unfortunately, reality didn’t unfold as beautifully as they envisioned. The opponents that descended onto the battlefield weren’t some so-called cannon fodder troop, but rather the real bosses themselves.
“You didn’t just cower in your castle but actually came out to face us? Well, I’ll give you a slight compliment for your courage!”
Gilbaris clapped his hands in admiration for the bravery of Gaia and the others who greeted them. Unfortunately, in battle, courage alone doesn’t determine victory; it largely depends on the true gap in strength between the two sides.
On the other side, Aierjisi was dumbfounded to see the big bosses themselves landing on the ground. Wait, isn’t it normally a troop of cannon fodder that arrives first? Why were the bosses here right off the bat? If this were a game, it would definitely scare off a lot of players.
“Of course, I had to take the initiative to confront you. If I just hid in the castle, you’d definitely attack, so it’s better to come out and face you earlier.”
“That’s true, but knowing that we are Ultimate Life Forms and still daring to come greet us? I must commend your bravery. Since you’re already here, you should know what comes next, right? I assume you’re prepared for the consequences of facing us. In that case, let’s skip the chit-chat and jump straight into battle.”
Gilbaris wasn’t a fan of wasting words either; the enemy wasn’t going to play nice, so why not get right into it? As long as they could bring back those three precious ones, their mission would be accomplished, and they could head back to headquarters.
Aierjisi and the others shared the same thought. The enemy wouldn’t just retreat calmly, so they might as well fight tooth and nail until the end.
Both sides hit it off and dove straight into battle. The Ultimate Life Forms each went after their respective opponents.
“I’ll take care of Weirafiya.”
“Leave Ailin to me.”
“Aierjisi! This time, I’m going to thoroughly torment you and make you regret being born into this world!”
Titan, Diablo, and Freya all lunged at their targets, leaving Gilbaris standing alone.
“Why do I feel like I’m the odd one out here?”
Gilbaris sighed, feeling unnecessary on the battlefield as it seemed no one wanted to fight him. Well, he might as well help his teammates tackle the challenges they faced.
Gilbaris unleashed two bolts of lightning from his hands, binding Arthur and Gaia and tossing them aside.
“My apologies, but if you want to get by, you’ll have to defeat me first.”
The leader of the Gilbaris clan stood in front of the two, blocking their path to assist their comrades.
“Get out of my way! I don’t have time to waste with you here!”
“Same here! I have no time to battle you; I need to get back to the lady!”
“So, I said if you want to get past, defeat me first! But I doubt the two of you can actually beat me.”
Gilbaris cracked his neck, eyeing the two weaklings in front of him. He didn’t even need to try seriously to wipe the floor with them.
“Gaia, focus on that enemy. I can handle Diablo alone.”
“And you, Arthur. Focus on taking down that annoying guy. I can manage this one by myself.”
Ailin and Weirafiya brandished their weapons and began to clash with one another.
“Your strength has definitely increased a lot compared to before, Ailin.”
Diablo could feel the surge of power in Ailin; she was much stronger than before, capable of trading blows now.
“Of course! We’re not stagnant. We’re working hard to become stronger just to confront you guys.”
“How interesting! Then let me see just how much you’ve improved since last time.”
For a true warrior like Diablo, the stronger the enemy, the more excited he became.
Meanwhile, Titan was engaged in a fierce clash with Weirafiya, both of them attacking with their swords.
“Your swordsmanship has certainly sharpened compared to before.”
“Likewise! After all, you are my opponent. If I didn’t step up my game, I’d end up like last time, with you wiping the floor with me, right?”
“But you think just a slight improvement in swordplay can stand against me? You really are overestimating yourself.”
“Who told you that I simply improved my sword skills? Let me show you the true power of the Phoenix!”
While her left hand was still busy clashing swords with Titan, Weirafiya quickly gathered a fireball in her right hand and smashed it right into Titan’s face.
“How’s that for a close-range fireball? Delicious? If you think so, then it’s a good hit!”
“It seems you have no sense of martial ethics at all. Choosing such a fighting style.”
“Hey, I’m not some martial artist! I just want to win in battle by any means necessary!”
“Indeed, I understand. But in that case, I can unleash my full power without any guilt.”
As soon as those words fell, Weirafiya felt an unprecedented wave of intense killing intent from Titan. It seemed he truly intended to kill her.
As for Aierjisi and Yake, their situation was slightly better after a month.
“So you’re already choosing to fuse right from the start? Looks like you two know my strength well.”
Seeing the pair reunited, Freya scoffed.
“Save the talk about your strength. Last time, we wiped the floor with you. You dare come back for more? Do you secretly enjoy being beaten up like some sort of masochist?”
After fusing with Aierjisi, Yake had clearly become much more sarcastic, directly mocking Freya with her own words.
Of course, this wasn’t Yake’s own sentiment; it was Aierjisi who had fed him those words inside. A bit of tongue-in-cheek banter with the enemy was no problem at all!
