Magical Girl and the Collapsed Magic Bureau (Physical)
“Welcome back.”
“I’ve returned.”
Upon transferring back to our base, which is also my home, I found Ms. Ren relaxing in the living room.
There were two cups of tea placed on the table.
I prefer coffee, but there’s nothing to be done about it.
“First, let me explain. Rosanne from the Doomist faction appeared, and the Leicester Magic Bureau was half-destroyed. Incidentally, part of the city froze over as well. There were a few fatalities, but many are injured, so we’ll need your help afterward.”
The fewer casualties, the better, but that means one of England’s Magic Bureaus is currently nonfunctional, right?
Furthermore, while she says the half-destruction was caused by Rosanne, I’m sure Ms. Ren had something to do with it too.
Mr. Arongante must have a headache over this.
“I understand. Are you alright, Ms. Ren?”
“As you can see, I’m fine. No injuries or dirt on me. How about Inie?”
Now, where should I start…
I won’t mention Rinde, and it’s unnecessary to bring up my last conversation with Rinne.
“Upon transferring, my destination was rewritten, and I was ambushed by members of the Doomist faction. I managed to defeat them, but in the process, I destroyed the barrier, causing part of the mountain to explode due to the aftermath.”
“So Inie caused some damage too, huh? Still, taking down three of them is quite an accomplishment. Who were they?”
Her use of “also” implies that Ms. Ren probably caused some trouble herself.
“Natalia, Eleonora, and Elraks. I made sure they were completely neutralized, so there’s no issue.”
“Right. I let one escape, but it seems your side handled it well. I’ll report to Arongante for you. Could you assist with the injured at the Leicester Magic Bureau?”
(Demon)
‘I’ve confirmed it. The destruction is artistically done and everything’s frozen. We’re doing relief work and cleanup outside.’
It would be wise to head over and help sooner rather than later.
“I understand. Please give my regards to Mr. Arongante.”
After finishing the tea, I bowed and requested transfer to the Demon.
(Indeed, the situation is dire. Moreover, despite being transformed, I can feel the cold.)
The building of the Magic Bureau was blown apart and now floats frozen in mid-air.
Currently, it appears magical girls are working above to dismantle it.
“Excuse me.”
“Yes… Ah, Miss Inny Flowering, is it? Allow me to guide you.”
I flagged down a busy staff member nearby and was guided to what looked like a temporary hospital.
Though labeled as temporary, it didn’t seem so from what I could see.
Ah, I see—this was brought from the Fairy Realm and assembled using the strength of magical girls.
“The majority of those accommodated here are civilians caught in the crossfire and bureau staff. Given the circumstances, we prioritized treating the magical girls first.”
Treating civilians is important, but if things get this bad, magical girls must be treated first to prevent further complications later on.
That’s reasonable.
“I understand. Are only those with external injuries here?”
“Yes. We’ve arranged for six people per room. There are various sizes of injuries, but please assist us.”
Ideally, I’d gather everyone in a large room and treat them all at once, but since civilians are involved, I can’t make such demands.
Magical girls are likely more resilient to pain, so pushing them a bit might work, but for civilians, even a broken arm counts as a severe injury.
…No, technically, even for magical girls, a broken arm is considered a serious injury, but most wouldn’t cry out in agony, probably.
I entered the nearest room and began treating patients in order.
Despite wearing a hood to conceal my face, I was met with caution. However, since most rooms had staff already treating patients, understanding was quickly reached.
Even if not, my brief entrance and exit caused no issues.
Once I finished treating everyone and stepped outside, the dismantling operation had progressed slightly.
Additionally, temporary shelters and what seemed to be teleportation devices were now set up.
Since I blew up part of the mountain earlier, I should report it now.
I could directly report to Mr. Bayern, but confirming proper communication between bureaus is also important.
If the report hasn’t been sent after checking with Bayern later, Ms. Ren will likely cause more trouble.
Wasn’t the director’s name Mr. Harry?
The Magic Bureau is entirely frozen, so he should be in one of the erected huts around here… I’ll just approach a random staff member.
“Excuse me.”
“Yes. Oh, that distinctive robe—it’s you, Miss Inie, isn’t it? Is there something you need?”
“I’d like to report something to Director Harry. Could you guide me?”
“That’s convenient. I was just about to go confirm some documents with him anyway. Please follow me.”
The bespectacled female staff member I approached seemed to be the right person.
Typically, I end up dealing with someone who doesn’t know me or underestimates me based on appearance, so this is rare good luck.
Perhaps it’s because not many besides myself wear these featureless white robes, and that’s how I’m recognized.
Following the staff member, we arrived at a slightly larger temporary hut.
In front of the hut stood a magical girl who appeared to be guarding it.
“Good work. Is the director available?”
“It’s fine since no one else is around at the moment—but… Inny Flowering!”
Even though I tried to stay hidden behind the staff member, I was spotted.
“What is it?”
“No, a friend of mine was healed by you, and I wanted to thank you personally. Thank you for helping one of our own.”
The guard magical girl bowed deeply in gratitude.
Rather than feeling indebted to me, I’d prefer they put in extra effort.
While increasing combat burden is welcome, administrative tasks are best avoided.
“It’s my job, so don’t worry about it. May I enter?”
“Yes, please feel free to enter.”
Entering the hut with the staff member, I found several employees hard at work alongside Mr. Harry.
“Director, I’ve come to collect the documents regarding temporary housing and supplies. And we have a visitor.”
“The documents can wait. Who’s the guest?”
Without looking up, Mr. Harry gave a quick response before raising his head upon hearing “visitor.”
Recognizing me, the color drained from his face.
Is this reaction normal? While I did cause problems, I intended to report them now, so I didn’t think I’d be this feared.
“Is there something you require, sir?”
“Are you aware of the Doomist faction?”
“Ah, yes. I just experienced it firsthand.”
Given the state of things, it’s unsurprising he knows.
“Besides Ms. Ren, members of the Doomist faction also confronted me, leading to a battle. Ms. Ren will likely report details later, but…”
I paused briefly to look at Mr. Harry.
“While victorious, part of the mountain was destroyed due to the aftermath.”
“—Ah. So you were responsible for that light, then. Understood. Were there any other damages?”
It seems we were observed.
So, knowing I can perform magic powerful enough to alter terrain explains his fear.
…Though, considering the Australia incident, shouldn’t he already know I can do more than healing magic?
“I believe everything else is fine. Sorry for the trouble, but could you handle reporting and cleanup with Mr. Bayern?”
“Understood. We’ll take care of the report and the mountain issue. Thank you for reporting.”
This should suffice.
With this, Ms. Ren’s request is complete, and I have some free time.
Stepping outside, I gazed at the dismantling Magic Bureau.
Some may think dismantling isn’t a magical girl’s job, but efficiency-wise, it’s better handled by them.
Especially with something this massive; it would take civilians days, but magical girls can finish within a day.
It’s tough work, but I hope they persevere.
Well, I’ve seen some interesting sights. Time to wrap up my final task.
(Demon, where is Rinde?)
‘Since she’s not transformed now, I can’t pinpoint her. She’s probably at home?’
Figures she’d be untraceable when it matters…
Due to how Demon’s detection works, relying on magical signatures, accuracy drops significantly if the target isn’t transformed.
Alternatively, extracting information from the internet might help, but that’s not possible this time either.
(Where’s her home?)
‘I’m searching now, give me a moment.’
So that’s possible.
Knowing she’s Bayern’s granddaughter, they’re likely tracing connections backward.
Still, my to-do list is growing.
First, extract information from Rinde, then depending on Ms. Ren and Mr. Arongante, consider withdrawing from England.
There’s also some vague meeting, but I can delegate that to Mr. Arongante.
Then, somehow, I need to place hatred under my control, though I currently have no way of doing so.
As discussed with Rinne, witches’ extinction isn’t urgent, but ideally, I’d like to unlock the second form’s limit release at will, given its potential to enhance my power.
The second form transformation, Hermes’ body swap, and simultaneous Arcana activation.
More cards mean broader combat options.
The problem is that all these methods come with restrictions and side effects.
I envy regular magical girls who simply grow stronger through Enhanced Forms.
‘—I’ve found her. You can go anytime.’
Finally, Demon located Rinde’s home.
Time to tackle my last task.
