Chapter 175: Ambush
In the pitch-black night, the massive steam beast continued to roar forward, spewing thick smoke. Inside one of the first-class carriages, in a private cabin, a long-planned ambush officially began.
Inside the detective’s conversation cabin, one of the parties suddenly attacked, plunging a small kn*fe into the detective’s chest. However, this did not cause the detective to fall; instead, his hand was tightly gripped by the detective. At the same time, three strong men inexplicably emerged from under an unassuming thin blanket.
Feeling someone approaching from behind, the assassin known as Kim attempted to sidestep and disappear into the wall beside him. But Dorothy had already anticipated his move and controlled Edric to firmly grasp the man’s hand, making it impossible for him to break free!
Before entering the cabin, Dorothy had secretly placed the bl**d-Eating Sigil on Edric with the “Cup” energy supplied through the zombie puppet ring. Edric now possessed superhuman strength, and the man could not escape.
Neither the “Shadow” nor the “Stone” could enhance the man’s strength. The “Cup” effect increased his physical ability slightly but not significantly, so he could not break free from Edric’s close-range restraint.
Thus, the three burly zombie puppets specially chosen by Dorothy rushed at the assassin. They grabbed his waist, hands, and feet, covered his mouth, lifted him off the ground, preventing him from touching the floor or walls, and thus stopping him from escaping. The strongest among these zombie puppets also bore the bl**d-Eating Sigil, enhancing their control.
Finally, under the combined close-range attack of four zombie puppets, the assassin was firmly restrained, unable to speak, move his hands, or lift his feet. He could neither escape through the walls nor use sigils to free himself.
At this moment, he was in a state of being “held tightly” and “completely restrained.”
Wide-eyed, the assassin was extremely shocked. When he entered the cabin, he had checked thoroughly and found no place to hide or ambush. So he had calmly sat down and talked with the detective. But how did these three large men suddenly appear?
Actually, before leaving the cabin, Dorothy had opened the magic box and hid it under the blanket. She had been controlling the three zombie puppets inside the magic box, ready to strike at any moment. Then, at the critical moment, they crawled out of the box, giving the opponent a surprise.
The restrained man struggled fiercely, but in front of many people and even more “Cups,” his struggle was futile. After successfully restraining the enemy, it was time to deal with him.
Edric pulled out the small kn*fe stuck in his chest and then stabbed the struggling man in front of him. The kn*fe was aimed directly at the man’s throat. However, just as the kn*fe touched the man’s skin, it seemed to hit a hard object, and with a clang, the tip of the kn*fe broke off.
“d*mn… It’s ‘Stone’ again. If his auxiliary spirituality is ‘Stone,’ then it should have some hardness. Audric said that hardening is a standard ability of ‘Stone’…”
The assassin had hardening, and the blade could not penetrate. At this point, Dorothy decided to use a g*n. Only a Black Earth Tier “Stone” could barely defend against bullets, but shooting now would alert the train attendants outside. If they entered, the situation inside the room would be exposed. Dorothy did not want this to happen yet.
After some thought, Dorothy controlled the zombie puppet with the bl**d-Eating Sigil to cover the man’s mouth and nose, suffocating him. Unable to breathe, the man’s face turned red, and his struggles intensified, but he still could not break free.
As time passed, the man’s struggles gradually weakened and finally stopped entirely. His whole body went limp. Dorothy confirmed the man’s d*ath using the zombie puppet ring.
Thus, in a well-laid ambush, this Black Earth Tier assassin was successfully hunted down by Dorothy almost silently. Her record now included another Black Earth Tier individual higher than her rank.
Dorothy first called each person from Cabin Seven under the pretense of investigating jewelry theft cases, letting them go after their conversations spread, lulling the true target into complacency. When she finally called him, he naturally came.
Then, Dorothy used the characteristics of the magic box and zombie puppets to set a trap, quietly killing a Black Tier individual without resistance. This was how Dorothy dealt with her opponent.
“Phew… Done…”
Sighing in relief, Dorothy controlled her zombie puppets to lay the dead assassin down and began collecting items from his body. After gathering useful things, she put some money in and then controlled the excess zombie puppets to return to the magic box. Finally, Edric closed the lid of the box.
After completing everything, Dorothy used the zombie puppet ring to pull up the dead assassin.
“Target successfully eliminated. However, this detective game still needs a proper conclusion.”
In her own cabin, Dorothy muttered to herself.
…
On the walkway of the first-class carriage, the train conductor slowly approached with two train attendants from the duty room. Seeing the two train attendants guarding the cabin, he asked:
“How is the detective solving the case?”
“The detective has been continuously bringing people from Cabin Seven for questioning. We’ve questioned twelve so far, and we’re currently questioning the thirteenth,” one of the train attendants replied. The train conductor frowned slightly and continued:
“After so many questions, has he discovered anything?”
“I don’t know… The detective hasn’t revealed what he’s asking about. However, the current interview is taking longer than usual. Others take only four or five minutes, but this one has already taken ten.”
Just as the train conductor was thinking, a sudden loud noise came from behind the door of the cabin guarded by the train attendant.
Stunned, the train attendant and the train conductor watched as the cabin door suddenly opened. A man in black clothes, panicked, rushed out and ran toward the corridor. Another figure followed closely behind him.
“Don’t think you can run!”
Under the stern command, Edric caught up with the fleeing figure, grabbing his clothes. The figure, seeing he couldn’t escape, punched Edric. Edric dodged the punch and grabbed the man’s arm, performing a shoulder throw, slamming him onto the ground.
Then, Edric pulled out a pistol from his coat and pointed it at the fallen fugitive, speaking seriously under the watchful eyes of the train attendants and the train conductor.
“It seems my deductions were correct. Mr. Kim, you are the murderer of Mr. Sodod, trying to escape? Not so fast. You cannot escape the kingdom’s law!”
Kim, who had been thrown to the ground, slowly got up, glaring at the detective holding the g*n. He responded:
“Tch… If it weren’t for you, I would have succeeded. d*mn detective…”
