Chapter 177: The Wizard’s Plan
Lin Nuo thought about the effort he invested into transforming his appearance, turning a clean, handsome young man into a complete hick.
Just how did you see through my disguise as soon as I took off this cloth?
Lin Nuo quickly straightened his posture, acting nonchalant, “Miss Su, what do you mean by ‘martial brother’?”
“Ah, I just—”
Su Kexin suddenly realized she had let her emotions slip. She didn’t know why, but Wu Ying Ge’s face reminded her of Lin Nuo’s, and she unintentionally blurted it out.
Now that she thought about it, Wu Ying Ge indeed had some resemblance to Lin Nuo, but the details of their faces were still quite different.
At least her martial brother was a pristine and handsome young master.
Oh dear, how embarrassing.
Liu Shuqin felt uneasy, pondering whether Su Kexin might recognize Lin Nuo based on Wu Ying Ge’s behavior.
How observant is she, actually?
As the elder sister supporting her junior martial brother, she should help him conceal his identity, not expose it.
Liu Shuqin tugged at Su Kexin’s hand repeatedly, “Junior Sister, you must have mistaken him! How could Young Master Wu be our junior brother?”
“Ah, yes, I—I’m so sorry, Young Master Wu! I lost my composure and mistook you for my martial brother Lin Nuo…” Su Kexin apologetically blurted, occasionally saying nonsensical things.
So embarrassing!
Ling Meng felt displeased listening to Su Kexin. Was this woman a bit unhinged? Mistaking her master for that guy named Lin was absurd.
How could that even be compared? Her master was the greatest demonic path grandmaster in the world. No one understood the essence of demonic techniques better than him; that Lin Nuo was merely an insignificant little cultivator who had never encountered a master like hers. Otherwise, could he even flaunt himself?
In front of her master, Lin Nuo wouldn’t stand a chance—he’d be easily obliterated, no doubt.
Ling Meng felt it was a disgrace for her master to be compared to someone as lowly as Lin Nuo, and she couldn’t tolerate it.
“Miss Su, please come to your senses! My master is not your martial brother; do not conflate the two.”
“Alright, Ling… Donger, let’s let this go. Miss Su didn’t mean to,” Lin Nuo said calmly. Given the situation, he was actually relieved. He had long wanted to remove the cloth; it was quite uncomfortable. As long as these two girls didn’t suspect him, he would be fine.
“Let’s go.”
Lin Nuo declared, then headed to the hall. There were already few people left inside. According to the city lord, they had rushed to the battlefield to fend off the fierce beasts.
“Sorry for being late.”
“No worries, as long as Young Master Wu comes, I have prepared the horses for everyone. We mustn’t delay; please set off now.”
“Alright.”
A group of them mounted their horses and headed towards the sight of the fierce beast trouble.
…
In the jungle, two men riding gigantic fierce beasts gazed into the distance.
“Zhou Ling City is forming an organization called the Righteous Path Organization; they say they’ve gathered a large number of talented individuals and opened the city. What a joke! They think they’re so clever, yet they don’t realize they’re inviting wolves into the fold.”
One man, draped in wolf skin, scoffed; he was a summoner known as Wolf Speak, skilled at summoning and controlling various fierce beasts, and one of the leaders of this fierce beast invasion.
“Indeed, their intelligence is far from recognizing their end.”
The other man, cloaked in tiger skin, chuckled along. He was also a summoner, named Tiger Grab, though his summoning skills were somewhat less impressive than Wolf Speak’s; however, his offensive spirit techniques were formidable—he could control spirit beasts and attack enemies alike.
Currently, a large number of fierce beasts were attacking Zhou Ling City and the Sacred Altar’s borders. Some of these beasts were summoned by them. This massive attack was merely a façade; they didn’t genuinely believe the fierce beasts could topple the people of Zhou Ling City. Instead, they were utilizing the fierce beasts to enact a grand plan.
“The fierce beasts have a plethora of soul fragments—perfect for infusing weapons and refining spirit crystals. These so-called righteous path folks will absolutely collect them, marking the beginning of their doom.”
Wolf Speak chuckled as he glanced at Tiger Grab, “Tiger, are your fierce beasts ready?”
“Of course! I’ve already asked the wizard to cast his spells, and the number of soul fragments will surely explode! Once they die or are gravely injured, the holy altar’s sorcerers will have to come out to respond and that’s when our wizard’s opportunity arises; the Three Heaven Stone will definitely be retrieved.”
“Two beast tamers, long time no see.”
A black portal shrouded in dark mist appeared next to the two summoners, and an old man leaning on a black skeleton staff stepped out from within the portal.
Wizard secret art, dark teleportation portal; this kind of secret technique requires prior spells to be cast at multiple locations for inter-teleportation.
“Greetings, Master Yang.”
The two beast tamers respectfully greeted.
“Don’t be so polite. How prepared are your fierce beasts?”
“Everything is ready.”
“Good. I’ve prepared the spells; when the time comes, initiate the attack together. The opponent will definitely try to withstand it. The fierce beasts will drop numerous soul fragments. As long as there are enough soul fragments, we can ignite the spirit techniques—causing explosions to eliminate the surrounding enemies and draw out the sorcerers from the holy altar. Then we can take the chance to snatch the Three Heaven Stone. This area is about to fall. I will use the portal to send you all away.”
“Good!” the two beast tamers replied in unison.
“Thank you both. I will now check on other places.”
The old wizard stomped his skeleton staff again, and another black portal appeared, leading him to other locations.
“Master Yang is truly remarkable; his wizardry is simply incredible.”
“Right? With his secret arts, it’s truly twice the result with half the effort! We must work hard; we can’t lag behind.”
The two summoners rallied themselves, preparing for the impending assault.
…
Lin Nuo and the others arrived on the scene, where a large number of capable individuals were already defeating the fierce beasts near the Sacred Altar.
“Why are you wrapped up in that cloth?”
Lin Nuo observed Ling Meng, puzzled.
“Master, look, that person over there…”
Ling Meng pointed ahead, and Lin Nuo turned to see the bald strong guy from earlier.
Wait, how could it be him?
Wu Huidao, who nearly got killed by Ling Meng before, was now back in action, heading to the scene to slay fierce beasts.
“Do you have any more cloth?”
“None left, Master. How about we share one?”
“No need, you can keep it.”
Seeing that Su Kexin and Liu Shuqin didn’t suspect him anymore, Lin Nuo decided to stop wrapping himself. Anyway, that priest probably wouldn’t remember him.
Lin Nuo reined in his horse, jumped down, and proceeded to greet the seniors as per the protocol.
Soon, that Wu Huidao noticed Lin Nuo.
“Little brother, didn’t we meet before on Tulu Mountain? You were the one who saved me from the Demon Woman.”
“Not me; you must be mistaken. Goodbye.”
Lin Nuo habitually delivered a triple denial.
