Chapter 184: World-Annihilating Birdmen
Wolf Language withdrew with the Fierce Beasts from the dark portal and encountered an old witch holding a skull staff.
“Wolf Language, why are you back so soon?” the old witch looked puzzled.
“Don’t say anything, Master. We bumped into two people, a man and a woman, and that woman annihilated all my Fierce Beasts, while the man didn’t even lift a finger.”
“The Righteous Path Organization is that powerful?”
The old witch was astonished. With a single woman blocking the way, how could the subsequent Soul Fragment bombardment be carried out?
Wolf Language continued anxiously, “I’ve seen it. That woman used Demon Power techniques. Our Fierce Beasts can’t withstand the yin energy; they were totally useless against those techniques. To think there are practitioners of Demon Power mixed in with the Righteous Path Organization. Our plan might fail.”
The old witch stroked his long beard, finding the situation increasingly strange. The Righteous Path Organization, known for its righteousness, how could there be practitioners of Demon Power among them?
Could it be that this was a surprising twist?
At that moment, a black crow flew down from the sky, landing on the old witch’s shoulder. The crow didn’t make a sound, but it transmitted battlefield information to the old witch.
Nodding at the crow, the old witch gently stroked its forehead with his rough left hand, then the crow flew back into the sky.
The old witch turned to Wolf Language draped in animal skins and asked, “The ones who blocked you were a man and a woman in light gray cloaks, right?”
Wolf Language nodded, “Yes, Master.”
“My black crow observed the battlefield ahead. Besides you two, everything else is proceeding as planned. Those righteous people are trying their hardest to block the Fierce Beasts, and most of them gathered the Soul Fragments from the Fierce Beasts. They didn’t concentrate on just one or two people.
As for the man and woman you encountered, they seemed to have clashed with Du Lun from the Righteous Path Organization and killed them.”
“Killed them?” Wolf Language was stunned. “Then they can’t be counted as allies, or rather, they could be spies infiltrating the Righteous Path Organization.”
“If that’s the case, that’s great! Their cohesion is weak; we can strike easily.”
The old witch chuckled, stroking his beard.
“Now, go support Tiger T, it’s a good opportunity to attack from there.”
“Alright.”
Beast tamer Wolf Language obeyed and rushed to support other companions.
After a while, the old witch, leaning on his staff, walked to the arranged stones, gazing into the distance, watching the thick smoke and listening to the screams filling the air, thinking that the ceremony for the Soul Fragment bombardment was about to start.
As for the pair in light gray cloaks, the black crow had already flown off to observe their movements. Should anything unusual happen, the black crow would call out from the sky to relay the information, so he could stay alert and not be caught off guard.
However, suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his heart.
“Black crow, my black crow…?!”
The old witch gritted his teeth, clutching his chest, sensing that the black crow was in trouble!
…
Lin Nuo brought Ling Meng back near the Sacred Altar. As they ran, Lin Nuo suddenly stopped.
“Master, what’s wrong?” Ling Meng also stopped, puzzled.
“I’m feeling a bit unwell; let me adjust my qi.”
Lin Nuo immediately sat down, closed his eyes, and began to adjust his spiritual energy.
Ling Meng thought about having used too much energy herself and not having adjusted, so she copied Lin Nuo, sitting cross-legged opposite him to adjust her own energy.
If the energy in their bodies was well-adjusted, the next time they used Spirit Techniques, it would flow much smoother, preparing for future battles.
Ling Meng naively thought her master was regulating his energy. She forgot one thing: aside from gathering a few Soul Fragments from Fierce Beasts, her master had no other need to use his spiritual power; adjusting his energy was pointless.
All of a sudden, a strong killing aura erupted from Lin Nuo’s head, and a moment later, a black crow fell from the sky.
Ling Meng heard the sound of the crow landing and opened her eyes to find a pitch-black bird next to her.
“What is this…?”
“This crow’s meat is toxic; it’s not suitable for eating. I suggest incinerating it on the spot.”
“Master, this doesn’t seem like an ordinary crow.”
Ling Meng surveyed the fallen crow, sensing something eerie.
“Of course not, this is a crow with spiritual awareness; if I’m not mistaken, it’s called a Black Crow, cultivated by witches from ancient tribes.”
Lin Nuo said casually as if he had just caught a regular crow.
“It must be spying on us. We’ve been so fierce dealing with the Fierce Beasts that it’s taking special notice of us.”
“How did it fall? It looked like it shot up to the sky just now; was it your doing, Master?”
“Don’t worry about that. Here’s a task for you: incinerate it.”
Lin Nuo pointed at the Black Crow, as his Meitian Rush was no joke; he was a master of knocking down pigeons.
Lin Nuo stood up and quickly moved away from the Black Crow. He had no idea what kind of method Ling Meng would use to incinerate it. One wrong move and she might unleash some apocalyptic magic fire, burning him as well. After all, Ling Meng thought he was strong enough to handle it, and if he ended up dead, that would be awkward.
Fortunately, Ling Meng didn’t use any world-destroying demon powers to send the crow to the afterlife; she merely used fire magic to burn it.
Cautiously, Lin Nuo kept an eye on the sky, relieved that there were no other black crows around.
“Let’s go.”
Lin Nuo continued with Ling Meng. As they walked, they spotted Liu Shuqin and Su Kexin retreating along with other members of the Righteous Path Organization, fighting off hundreds of Fierce Beasts.
“Don’t go out there.”
Lin Nuo pulled Ling Meng back, hiding to observe Liu Shuqin and the others.
Recalling the days of secret watchers, still back at the Wind Sea Forest, he had watched as Su Kexin was battered by a group from the Refining Demon Sect, only to unleash a counterattack. After her outburst, he had planned to swoop in for the kill.
As for what followed, it was not a pretty tale. Lin Nuo halted his recollection, remaining in the glorious memory of a major villain from stalking reconnaissance to assassination.
This time, he had the chance to force Su Kexin into a critical state, and he already envisioned the outcome.
This group of Righteous Path members would kill the Fierce Beasts and gather a pile of Soul Fragments. When a certain unknown witch ignited them, many would be injured or killed, and Su Kexin would likely be pushed to unleash her critical state, narrowly escaping, but afterward falling into a weakened condition. He and Ling Meng could then pretend to support her, directly swooping in for the kill, sending Su Kexin to the afterlife.
Very good, unlike last time when a small mishap occurred at Wind Sea Forest, this time, there would be no surprises. Moreover, with Demoness Ling Meng on his side, Su Kexin could at most erupt a second time. After Ling Meng’s outburst, they’d severely weaken her, and then he’d swoop in for the kill. She would definitely die.
Perfect! No wonder he endured humiliation for so long, being treated as various knights and heroes, just to shine in the end!
But as he watched, it seemed like this plot twist was going awry!
