Chapter 193: Acting
“Has my investigation been detected?”
In a secluded corner of the library, Dorothy tossed a coin and slammed her hand down on top of it, feeling a reduction in spirituality. After slowly removing her hand, she saw that the coin, which had lost its luster, lay on the back of her other hand, showing its head side.
“Indeed… My investigation has been discovered…”
Seeing the divination result in her hand, Dorothy understood. The only possibility she had considered for Thistle’s unusual behavior was that they had detected her investigation. Therefore, she immediately changed the subject, stopped discussing confidential information, and quickly entered the Stone Door to try and cut off the investigation.
The most likely reason she had been discovered was probably those spider webs.
Those spider webs… existed only after the corridor. Thistle wanted to discuss secrets by deliberately entering that corridor. It seemed Thistle suddenly changing the topic was also after her Gecko zombie puppet touched the spider webs…
“In this case, those densely packed spider webs must be some kind of extraordinary sensor. If any other abnormality touches the spider webs, Thistle will sense it. He sensed the existence of my Gecko zombie puppet through this.”
“Sigh… I was careless. The Eight Pinnacle Nest actually has such anti-investigation measures. I never expected it… ” Dorothy thought. Previously, when dealing with the Holy Communion, their base had virtually no anti-investigation measures. Her small zombie puppets could come and go as they pleased, stealing key intelligence without being detected. Now, the Eight Pinnacle Nest clearly had anti-investigation measures, surpassing the Holy Communion by a significant margin.
Knowing that her investigation had been detected, Dorothy wasn’t overly panicked but felt somewhat surprised and puzzled. She was puzzled why Thistle naturally detected her Gecko zombie puppet but didn’t take action.
“The Gecko zombie puppet is clearly already discovered, but they didn’t try to bring it down, causing me to lose an investigative puppet. Instead, they just entered the Stone Door to block the investigation. When my puppet returns, something feels off.
“There’s also the fact that Thistle obviously wanted to pretend he didn’t know about my puppet. Why would he do that?”
Discovering new points of suspicion, Dorothy frowned slightly, sensing something amiss. As someone who often acted, she felt that Thistle was intentionally acting in front of her, pretending not to know. She was certain he was up to something. Putting herself in Thistle’s shoes, she immediately had a sinister idea.
“That guy wouldn’t… be doing this… No, I need to verify it.”
Speaking, Dorothy began to change the return trajectory of the Gecko zombie puppet crawling toward her in the school, preparing to retrieve it. She made it crawl in another direction first, then stood up from her seat and came to the restroom in the library.
Next, Dorothy took out the Magic Box and released the Crow doll, letting it fly out of the small ventilation window in the restroom and into the sky outside.
Controlling the Crow doll, Dorothy made it fly toward the direction where the Gecko doll was located, then flew into a building, landing on a stone beam in a corridor.
Thus, Dorothy made the Crow doll wait here, waiting for the Gecko doll crawling over from afar. Soon, the Gecko doll she controlled crawled over the wall.
Under the surveillance of the Crow doll, the Gecko doll crawled underneath it. Shortly after, Dorothy used the Crow doll’s field of vision to see that two black little spiders were also climbing the wall, closely following behind the Gecko doll.
“As expected, pretending not to notice me and acting in front of me is to prevent me from becoming alert and tracking them back…”
Watching the black little spiders behind the Gecko doll, Dorothy thought, feeling relieved that she had thought of this layer in time and hadn’t blindly let the Gecko doll return, otherwise she would have completely exposed herself.
The confrontation with the Eight Pinnacle Nest had just begun. If her true self were exposed like this, what would happen afterward?
Avoiding a crisis in time, Dorothy breathed a sigh of relief and started thinking about how to deal with it.
“Hmm… What should I do now? It’s easy to escape the tracking by directly controlling the Gecko doll or making the Crow doll eat the spiders, but doing so would mean telling them I’ve also detected them.
“It’s easy to deal with these tracking spiders, but is there a way to use them to our advantage?”
Dorothy pondered in the restroom. After a while, she had an idea.
“I got it… Maybe I can do it this way…”
Thinking, Dorothy prepared to take something out of the Magic Box. At this moment, impatient knocking sounds came from the restroom door. Dorothy realized she had stayed in the restroom for too long and hurriedly opened the door to let another anxious girl inside.
After leaving the restroom, Dorothy immediately left the library and quickly arrived at an unoccupied staircase. Here, Dorothy temporarily made the Crow doll find a place to rest and paid an additional 1 point of Enlightenment to expand the limit on the number of dolls.
Then, Dorothy took out the Magic Box, adjusted the exit, and controlled two human zombie dolls to crawl out and stand in front of her.
One was Brandon, and the other was Edric, both of whom were commonly used by Dorothy. Looking at the two zombie dolls in front of her, Dorothy smiled and said.
“Mr. Brandon, Mr. Edric, the next performance is up to you.”
“Of course, Miss.”
“Not to be disappointed.”
After briefly responding to Dorothy, Brandon and Edric left, leaving Dorothy smiling alone in place.
“You’re acting in front of me? Perfect… I’m quite good at acting too…”
…
Royal Saint Agon University, King Campus, West Side.
On the spiral staircase wall inside a bell tower, a gecko was struggling to climb upward along the spiral stairs. Not far behind it, two small black spiders were closely following and continuously tracking the gecko’s movements.
Finally, after a long and arduous climb, the gecko reached a storage room on the bell tower. At this moment, two figures were already waiting here.
Both were men. One wore a trench coat, a hat on his head, with a thin face, high nose, deep eyes, and a weary appearance. The other wore a suit, young and handsome, with neatly combed hair.
The moment the gecko crawled into the room, the man wearing the trench coat shifted his gaze to it and extended his hand to the ground, speaking softly with a smile.
“Oh… You’re back, little darling. Tell me, what did you see and hear?”
Hearing the man’s words, the gecko quickly crawled toward him and onto his palm. The man closed his eyes and stroked the gecko, seemingly sensing something.
All of this was watched by the spiders following secretly.
