Chapter 200 – Language
After establishing the information channel, Dorothy no longer needed to connect with an unknown communicator through the “Navigation of the Literary Sea” to exchange information. Using the information channel, she directly sent a voice message over.
“Offer knowledge, grant knowledge.”
Since she needed to trick the other party into sacrificing valuable knowledge, Dorothy had to act mysteriously and deceive them into willingly offering their knowledge. To make the language sound more profound and mysterious, she processed the voice message so that it was unrecognizable in terms of gender or age and sounded very deep and resonant.
After all, chatting in person with someone using her natural voice wouldn’t be very convincing, so she needed to use a voice changer.
On the other side, inside his own tent, Kapak was looking at the strange phenomena depicted in the comic book before him, unsure of what to do. He believed that some powerful spirit might be residing within the book, granting it wisdom. He wanted to show this to the tribe’s priest, but he was worried that such an action might offend the spirit.
Just as Kapak was pondering what to do with the comic book, a voice suddenly echoed in his mind. It was unusual, impossible to discern gender or age, and deep and resonant. Upon hearing it, Kapak was startled.
“Who? Who is speaking in my mind?” Gripping his weapon, Kapak nervously guarded his surroundings, muttering to himself in his own language. He couldn’t understand the language of the voice in his mind; his Prit language skills were far from sufficient to comprehend it.
Kapak’s mutterings were transmitted through the opening information channel to Dorothy’s ears, but she was surprised to find that she couldn’t understand the language being sent to her.
‘This language is incomprehensible… Could this be the spoken form of the Spiritual Seal Language? Why would the other party use this language to communicate with me? Is Prit not their main language?’
Dorothy thought, then sent another message.
“Use Prit.”
Inside the tent, Kapak, hearing the strange voice in his mind again, felt even more puzzled. For a language he couldn’t understand, he could only continue to respond by muttering.
“Who are you? I can’t understand what you’re saying!”
‘Crud… This guy seems to have poor Prit language skills. He doesn’t seem like a linguist.’
In the library’s restroom, Dorothy couldn’t help but complain in her heart upon hearing Kapak’s response. Initially, when the other party wrote a “Ignorance” translation between Prit and Spiritual Seal Language, she thought they were a linguist. Now, it seemed they might not be, but rather someone who knew a little Prit vocabulary and whose native language was Spiritual Seal Language.
‘So your Prit language is really poor… In that case, I’ll give you a quick lesson first, and then charge tuition later.’
Dorothy thought, then immediately retrieved all her knowledge related to Prit and transmitted it through the information channel. She then imprinted all the Prit language information she possessed onto the other party’s Soul Book using an engraving method.
Yes, a Soul Book could not only imprint extraordinary knowledge but also ordinary knowledge, as long as its capacity was sufficient, one could instantly grasp a piece of knowledge. Dorothy imprinted thousands of Prit words and complete grammar onto Kapak’s Soul Book in one go.
“Hiss…”
Inside the tent, Kapak suddenly felt dizzy and instinctively covered his forehead. The dizziness lasted for only a moment before it subsided. However, after it ended, Kapak found himself feeling different from before. A large amount of information had suddenly appeared in his mind.
“This is… language? Called… Prit?”
After briefly examining the new information in his mind, Kapak muttered. Then, as if realizing something, he immediately returned to his small wooden box and started rummaging through its contents. After a while, he pulled out a small book.
Kapak opened the book and was surprised to discover that he could actually understand all of its content. Previously, the vocabulary and sentences looked confusing, but now he could read them. Looking closer, he realized that the old book he had been collecting for a long time was actually a user manual for a steam turbine.
Kapak, who just knew a few Prit words a few minutes ago, could now read a full Prit language manual! His current Prit language proficiency was almost indistinguishable from a native Prit resident.
“Incredible…”
Holding the manual, Kapak shook his head and muttered, then searched the box for a while, finding items with language, only to realize that he could understand everything clearly. Those once confusing words and sentences now made perfect sense to him.
‘What is this? Why can I suddenly understand everything? Why did I instantly learn the language of those invaders, the language of the Prit people.’
Kapak found it unbelievable and wondered about the reason for this miracle. After a moment of reflection, he linked it to the magical comic book and the sudden voice in his mind.
‘Really? Could it be true? Does this comic book really harbor a powerful spirit! That spirit directly communicated with me in my mind and bestowed upon me the ability to understand foreign languages!’
Kapak thought, considering the vast land where many spirits roamed freely. These spirits were either nature sprites or ancestral souls, wandering in forests or galloping across plains, sometimes residing in objects. Ordinary people couldn’t see them, but only the tribal shamans could communicate with them and harness their power.
At this moment, Kapak was certain that a powerful spirit resided within the comic book, or perhaps it communicated with a powerful spirit. He was utilizing the comic book and that spirit to communicate.
As a member of the tribe who had once worked under a shaman, Kapak understood that spirits must be respected, and those that granted power deserved even greater respect.
“Unknown great spirit, I am deeply grateful for your gift. I wish to ask, what is the will accompanying this gift, how should I repay it?”
Kneeling on the ground, Kapak bowed sincerely towards the comic book placed on the ground, using the tone he used during rituals. He specifically used the language just bestowed upon him. Kapak knew that when the tribe’s shaman asked spirits for help, offerings were often required.
‘Sigh… Finally, I can understand it.’
In the distant Crown University Library, Dorothy breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing familiar language. Now that the other party could speak Prit, communication would be possible.
‘A powerful spirit? That guy seems to think I’m something else, but it doesn’t matter. As long as he respects it, I’m fine.
‘And… That guy seems to have decent character, knowing to offer repayment. This saves me from having to ask.’
Dorothy thought, then used the information channel again to send a processed voice message.
“Exchange knowledge for knowledge…
“The reward for language is also language.”
